Stone (Highway Jokers #1)

Chapter 11

CHAPTER 11

STONE

After hours of losing my mind to waiting in the emergency waiting room. I was finally able to go back and see Lolita. The doctors had told me that she was lucky to be alive. They had lost her a few times, once in the ambulance and another on the operating table but the doctor also said the next 48 hours were critical and her body had fallen into a coma. I couldn’t help myself, I was a mess. I was wiping my tears away every time they fell.

Now I was standing outside the room they had placed her in as nurses checked her over once again. I couldn’t keep my eyes off her pale face. And I felt guilty that she was here… this was all my fault.

“Sir?” I snapped my eyes away from the girl who held my heart in her hands towards a nurse. She swallowed hard from the look I held. “I’m sorry for keeping you but you may go in. Just please, be careful with the wires,” I gave my head a nod before I made my way slowly into Lolita’s room.

I stood at the hospital bed, I sighed before I sat in the chair beside the window. I was scared to touch her, her body looked so fragile lying there. I don’t even remember where the doctors told me she was hit. I just wanted to know if she was okay…

I sat forward staring at her as my head rested on my knuckles but as time went on, I had run my hands through my hair a million times. I let Saw see her while I went to grab some coffee. I knew I was going to need it because I knew I wasn’t going to sleep until I knew she was better.

I thought back to high school. She was the girl that stood out among the crowd. She was popular but kind, I was the stoner that no one wanted to know. From time to time I would catch her looking at me before she would turn away quickly.

It was crazy how time flies past. Over the last ten years, I slept around with the sweetbutts but now Lolita had wiggled her way back into my life, I didn’t want to let her go. But of course, the guilt was there playing a part. I was beating myself up. I wasn’t going to rest until these fuckers were dead. I wasn’t going to rest until I had their blood on my hands. I wasn’t going to rest until they were in a grave.

I had been sitting here for days. The doctors had told me to try talking to her and I have been trying to but she still hasn’t woken up. I stroke her soft hand as I stare at her but I tore my eyes away to see my president walk through the door. “How is she doing?” He asked me.

“The doctors say she’s doing better… but if that were true she would be awake…” I sighed, running my hand through my unwashed hair.

“Her body needs to rest, mate. She had been working pretty hard before everything.” Thrasher took a seat in one of the other chairs but listening to him just made me sigh once again. “We need to go over some information about the prospect.” He said but I shook my head.

“I don’t care.”

“Your VP, Stone. My VP. You are in this club whether your Old Lady is hurt or not.”

My jaw clenched as I looked away from him. “What do you want?”

“The prospect gave us information about the clubs. More information than 8Ball could gather.”

“What is it?”

Thrasher sighed “We have church in an hour.”

“I’m not leaving her,” I mumbled, shaking my head. Making Thrasher raise his eyebrow.

“You know the club comes first before the pussy does,”

“Fuck you, Thrasher,” I growled out.

“Then get your fucking ass to the club.” Thrasher stood up straight as he straightened his leather kutte. I breathe an angry breath when he slams the door shut behind me.

I stroke Lolita’s hand once again, mumbling sorry. I kissed her hand when the door reopened again. “Hey baby,” I heard Vikki’s voice and I knew why she was there. I slowly stood up and hugged her. “Boy, you need a shower. Go home and clean up, see the boys and then come back to your girl.” I looked back towards Lolita. Hesitating.

“I’ll be here, I’ll look after her and call if anything happens,” Vikki said, I nodded my head and leaned down to kiss Lolita on the forehead. I mumbled in her ear that I loved her before I kissed Vikki on the cheek.

Walking into the clubhouse, I walked straight past the guys who were hanging around the bar towards the stairs to go upstairs. When I was done showering and getting myself ready, I made my way towards the chapel. I threw my phone, which was dead, into the bucket before I took my seat way before everyone came into the room.

About five minutes later, everyone else came into the room. Nodding their heads to me, Gravel slapped me on the shoulder as he took his seat next to me. Thrasher, of course, was the last one to take his seat. “The Devil Riders have been in contact with us to handle the situation, they want the prospect.”

“I say, give him to them” I mumbled, Thrasher glared at me.

“That’s not what we are going to do.”

“So you think, shooting me twice, shooting my Old Lady and the other members of this club and also having a rat come in here is fine?” I snapped at him. “What if it happened to you? What if it’s your Old Lady lying in that hospital bed? Would you still be sitting here saying the same damn thing?”

“Stone, calm down” I heard Mage say across the room.

“Nah, fuck that.” My hands were clenched into fists. “That prospect had the orders to shoot my Old Lady, to get to the club. To make us vulnerable. He knew important information about us and you’re going to sit here and let him get away with it. Who fucking knows what he went and told The Devil Riders and The Broken Hitchmen!”

“What do you think I should do then, VP?” Thrasher snarled.

“I don’t know, mate. You’re the president of this fucking club. This shit has been going on for far too long. We need to do something now! I say gear up with everything we fucking have and shoot these mother fuckers before any of us get fucking hurt or worse, dead.” I growled out. The room was dead silent when I was done but my breathing was heavy.

“We have to think about this Stone. We can’t go in guns blazing, we will lose people more than anything,” Mage spoke up. My jaw clenched once again when Thrasher agreed with Mage. I ran my hand over my beard before I immediately stood up and threw my chair against the wall, making everyone stand up and yell out. I struggled against Gravel and Skitzo before I walked out of the chapel and out of the clubhouse.
