Chapter America Genius

Valor clears his throat to break the air. Rue had not heard the door of her bedroom open; Valor clears his throat again to get Rue’s attention.

Valor: Are these accommodations fitting for a genius like yourself?

Rue laughs as she continues to unpack her things. She was too tired when she first arrived and had been researching all morning. This was the first chance she has had to put her things away.

Rue: It’s great! Thank you for checking.

Rue does not know if it is the overuse of cologne, or the wicked smile, maybe even that greasy slick back hair. Valor out of all the brothers makes her the most uncomfortable.

Valor: I like this room, I used to fuck my math tutor in this room.

Rue’s eyes go big.

Rue: Oh!

Valor: So, you’re a writer? What got you into “writing”?

Valor sits on her bed, which grosses Rue out.

Rue: I don’t know, too many years of literature classes I guess.

Valor: I heard once, that being a writer is like being a God, you can create or destroy life with the stroke of a pen. That’s powerful!

Rue nervously giggles.

Rue: Well, I don’t believe in God, and if I did, I’m certainly not one.

Valor: You don’t need to believe in God to believe in the Devil. So, Miss LA, what’s your opinion of the Devil?

Rue looks Valor straight in the eyes, squinting slightly, done with this game.

Rue: I don’t give him much thought either.

Valor gets off her bed walking closer to Rue.

Valor: I just thought if someone was a God, it would be good to know who their Devil was?

Valor gives a chuckle as he turns away from Rue, walking towards the bedroom door.

Valor: Try to wear something sexy tonight, I think you would look nice in red.
