Chapter 8
Scarletts P.O.V
Its dinner time. You sit quietly eating away at the steak on your plate. Your eyes shift back and forth from Kirk and your mom. You avoid the intense gaze from Oliver. I have nothing to say to him
You stab at the meat, only to realise you've mindlessly eaten it all. You begin to chip away at the broccoli on your plate, thankful that you have an excuse to look down.
I just don't have the energy to deal with him at all. He's got his own shit and his own ways to deal. I should've just left him alone.
"So what happened to your eye, Oliver?"
Oliver glances at his father with a disinterested expression, and pops a piece if meat into his mouth, chewing loudly.
"I'm serious, Oliver. Do i need to call your mother?"
Oliver shakes his head, and sets down his knife.
"It's nothing. Really."
"Okay, well I'll see if your mother agrees. You don't just come home with a black eye for no damn reason."
Kirk pats his pockets searching for his phone. When he cant find it right away, he pushes his chair back. "Dad, stop. Its not a big deal"
"No. Because I've had enough of these mysterious fucking bruises and shit..."
Maybe i can help him out?
Awe, fuck it.
"It was sort if my fault."
You meet Kirk gaze. He raises his brow at you, and settles his arms back on the table.
"What do you mean?"
I don't know why the fuck I'm doing this for him. Its not like Oliver deserves to be rescued.
"Earlier i had gotten out of the shower and was running down the stairs, but my towel tripped me up and Oliver came to catch me and I head butted him." Damn, that was a smooth lie. I almost believed it.
You avert your eyes to Oliver, who's watching you carefully with a stolid expression. Kirk turns his attention back to his son.
"Is that true?"
Oliver pulls his lips into a small smile, giving the illusion that he was just being modest.
"I didn't want to mention it because it was embarrassing for Scarlett."
"Yeah. I asked him not to. I felt bad."
You shrug, and offer Kirk a sympathetic smile.
"Honestly, I didn't think it would turn into this big thing. You know college kids are always getting into fights."
"Well, I'm not finished with you yet. We're gonna talk about your attitude. As long as you live under my roof you will follow my rules."
Oliver disappears from the dining room to go sulk in another room. You turn back to his dad.
"Men and their raging hormones."
Your mother chuckles, and rests a hand on Kirks arm.
"i know your upset, babe, but I wouldn't be worrying about things now. Just eat and let him be."
Kirk rubs the back of his neck, staring blackly down at his plate.
"I'm not sure I'm hungry anymore"
Your eyes follow out into the hallway where Oliver just was.
I just don't understand why he views everyone as the enemy. Even his own father when he shows concern? It's ridiculous.
"Scarlett, maybe later you and Oliver could do something out of the house. He's been pretty cooped up since he finished his semester. He could probably use a night out of the house" "I don't know, mom..."
"Oh, nonsense. How hard is it to spend time with him, Scar? Just do something fun. Movies, swimming, bowling. Or whatever it is you guys find fun."
"Just so long as its legal"
Your mother giggles at Kirk as she places her hand on his neck to pull him to her for a kiss.
After today, I'd rather stick my hand through a meat grinder than spend time with him.
"I already have plans with Briana tomorrow"
"Well I'm sure you can spare an hour for Oliver. Or why don't you all go do something together?"
Your mind is invaded with images of Oliver and Briana flirting and hooking up. You clench your jaw, and dispel them with a shake of your head. "Fine. I'll figure something out."
I don't know what's worse, the idea of spending time alone with him, or basically setting him and Briana up to fuck by having us all hangout. Then again, what do i care if they fuck/ I don't want him...
You pinch the bridge of your nose and sigh.
Yeah, that's really fucking convincing.00000000
