Chapter 11
Scarletts P.O.V
Pulling out your phone, you send a quick text to Briana.
Scarlett: I'm ready when you are.
You glance at the door and move your hand to your throat where his mouth was.
I need a drink one as slot bigger than a swig of liquor.
Briana: yes! I'm ready 2 get my drink on!
Scarlett: same. I'll drive over in a minute.
Briana: sounds good.
Just when you send another text your mom calls you.
"Scarlett, get up here now! I have to talk to you."
Oh shit... she doesn't know does she?
You feel your pulse quicken as a wave of nervous heat washes over you. You rub your forehead, and rim your lips.
Stop overthinking it. She couldn't have heard me unless she was down here near his door. I didn't hear anything.
"What mom? I'm getting ready to go to Bri's."
"No! Not before i speak to you. Get up here and meet me in the kitchen."
God damn...
You let out a long, laboured breath, and walk out of your room towards the stairs.
Maybe this is it... she knows. We're caught. I mean, what else could she be so angry about?
When you reach the kitchen, you find her standing at the kitchen door with her brows furrowed and her shoulder high. She places a hand on her hip and cocks her head sideways with a knowing look. With a nod of her head, she gestures for me to take a seat on the stool at the island in the middle of the room.
"Sit"
Shit... just play it cool. Freaking out would probably only lead to confusion and more problems.
"What's up, mom?"
You perch on the edge of the stool and clasp your hands together after you place your phone face down on the counter. She stares quietly for a few seconds, before she groans and places he hands on the counter an leans into it. "Can you guess why I'm upset with you?"
Yay... we're going to plat twenty questions. There's a handful of reasons for her to be upset with me. It's just a matter of what one she knows.
You shake your head.
"No mom, I don't know"
"I asked you if you'd do something and include Oliver an yet you're sleeping over at Bri's and not even making an effort."
Oh, i included him in something, alight.
You sicker, and your moms eyes narrow.
"I think you want me to say you cant go to Bri's... why else would you think what i say is funny?"
"I don't"
Your mom shoves fingers through her hair, sighing as she turns to tend to the vegetables on the counter.
"Briana invited him to hangout with us a little later but he didn't want to go."
"Honey, i think you've forgotten the power of persistence... Oliver!"
Your eyes widen, as you blush when she calls his name.
Please don't come up here... please don't one up here.
"I'll ask him. You two are going to get along and enjoy each others company. You're practically family"
Ew... way to ruin the thoughts in my head. We are fucking far from family. I know my mom. She never stays with a man more than a year. We'd be lucky if we made it to fucking Christmas.
You keep yourself from scoffing.
I don't want to hurt her feelings.
You hear Oliver's footsteps resounding on the floor as he nears the kitchen. Willing yourself to relax, you hold your head in your hands, and take a deep breath when you know he's entered. The air changes when he enters the room. Your body is alerted just in the way it makes your nipples hard when his delectable scent wafts from him.
This is so embarrassing...
"Oliver, did Scarlett ask you to do anything at all? Like the movies, or something??"
When he doesn't answer right away, you lift your head and look at him. His eyes skirt to you, and they narrow playfully a little as a small smile forms on his lips.
"She definitely asked me to do something"
God, I know right where his mind is.
You widen your eyes to shoot him a 'What the fuck' look. He chuckles and rests his palms agains the island. You watch as he shakes his head slowly and the hair dishevels atop his head. "See i told you"
Your mother crosses her arms over her chest.
"Oh really?"
Your mother turns her eyes to Oliver.
"Okay, so what did she ask you to do?"
"She asked me to go hiking"
Well, she's going to know that's a fucking lie. Just great.
Your mom scoffs, and sweeps her hair off her shoulder, before she scrutinises you.
"Scarlett asked you to hike?...this must be a miracle"
Oliver laughs, tossing is head back.
"Hey! Is it so unbelievable I'd want to hike?"
I could hike if i wanted too. I'm just a nut when it comes to bugs. They are the worst thing about summer.
You swat Oliver's arm but he doesn't let up with the laughter. You avert your eyes to your mom, narrowing them with annoyance at her. She holds up her arms innocently and chuckles.
"I'm sorry, Scar. It's just you're not one for physical activity and nature"
She's not wrong, but still
"Well for your information, mom, i did ask him to hike because I was trying to do something I thought he'd like. Its not always about me"
This kinda sucks though because lie or not, now I have to go hiking or she's going to know I was lying.
"Yeah, I figured we could go tomorrow."
You shake your head before you stop to think about your reaction in front of your mom.
I was planning on having a raging hangover tomorrow. The last thing I want to do is hike for hours.
"Tomorrow? That's not really a good time for me."
Oliver mockingly taps his chin before he shrugs.
"I'm sure you'll make time. Its only for an hour or two."
He grins.
That asshole knows I'm gonna be hungover and he's just trying to mess with me! It doesn't mean I have to go, I mean, I guess I could lie to my mom and say we went. Yeah, because lying gets you far. You sigh, and tug at your hair.
"I guess that's fine. See mom, are you happy? You have proof now."
"Yes. At least I know you two are trying to make an effort. I don't think you both understand how much strain it puts on me and Kirk when you don't get along."
Jeez, way to add the guilt.
"We're getting along. Its fine. Oliver I'll see you tomorrow"
You wave him goodbye prematurely, hoping he gets the hint to start leaving.
"Or sooner"
You've got to be kidding me.
He winks at you on his way out of the kitchen.
