Chapter 1550 The Art of Smile Disappearance
In Anthony's room, he stared at the phone and the letter brought back by Lilly. He looked at them so often that the paper showed signs of wear at the folds. In the video, Lisa struggled and looked determined. She probably wanted to write more words than him. But in the end, she only managed twelve words... Anthony looked at the short letter, which he had read repeatedly for countless times.
After a while, he put the letter aside and began writing about recent developments.
'Lisa, it's Mom's 70th birthday tomorrow. Lilly has been attending regular school in the Human Realm for several months now; perhaps only a few days have passed in the Nether where you are. Are you doing well? I miss you a lot...'
Beside Anthony's desk lay a thick stack of letters. Although he no longer recorded a video for each letter, every letter was neatly sealed.
In this technologically advanced age, not many people still wrote letters like this, and outsiders certainly wouldn't know that the CEO of Crawford Holdings, known for being aloof and unapproachable, secretly wrote a whole stack of letters to his wife.
The next day, the Crawford Mansion was bustling with activity as it was Bettany's birthday. Both Hannah and Lilly had taken the day off.
The Crawford Mansion hadn't been lively for a long time. Bettany didn't want to host any grand banquet; she just wanted to spend quality time with her family.
"Happy birthday, Grandma!" Lilly gave Bettany a bear hug as soon as she got up.
"Here's your birthday present, Grandma!" Lilly took out a bracelet and personally put it on Bettany. While putting it on, she said with self-blame, "I'm sorry I forgot about it and couldn't personally get you anything."
Lilly was about to mention that the bracelet was from Ivan when her uncles began descending the stairs.
Bettany smiled, patting Lilly's hand, and said, "What matters is that you all are around. I don't need any gifts."
Just then, Lilly leaned close to Bettany and quickly said. "Ivan helped me get this treasure."
Bethany took a moment to register what Lilly said while the latter continued explaining, "This one is the Clarity Bead, and this is the Radiant Bead... they can clear the mind and cleanse the body of impurities. This one is the Aquabane Bead... and these are the Frostbane Bead and Firebane Bead..."
After introducing the functions of each bead, Lilly left everyone shocked.
Edward and the others gathered around.
"This tiny bead can actually resist fire?! I don't believe it unless you give me one too!" said Edward.
Max pushed Edward's head to the side, saying, "The whole nation can hear your implication!"
Edward muttered, "What implication..."
Josh curiously asked, "Lilly, can it really resist water and fire?"
Edward then suggested, "Let's try it out! Wait, I'll go get some fire! Mom, put the bracelet on me."
Seeing Edward eager to try, Bettany took off the bracelet in annoyance and said, "Come, I'll try it on you personally."
Edward was delighted. "You're the best, Mom!"
Although the elderly woman often threatened them with frying pans, deep down, she couldn't bear to see her children disappointed.
The others, including Gilbert, found it strange. When did Bettany become so generous with gifts from Lilly?
As soon as Edward got the bracelet, Bettany grabbed a cup of water and splashed it at him without hesitation. Splash! Edward reflexively jumped, tightly holding the bracelet, and kept stepping back.
"Wow! It really does resist water!" Bettany gasped. She immediately took the bracelet from Edward, "The bracelet is rather small, just perfect for a slender wrist like mine. You better not damage it."
Edward was stumped. Where's the maternal love you promised? I didn't even get a chance to wear it!
The bracelet made a round trip in his hands and quickly returned to
Bettany's hands! Apparently, hl.nets
being used as an experiment...
Edward was speechless. "You really are my mother."
Bettany, with the bracelet, enjoyed it. "Absolutely," she said and walked away humming a song.
Hugh patted Edward's shoulder. "Be glad that your mother didn't point a heat gun at you."
It was just a cup of water.
Hugh left, following his wife. In a voice vaguely audible to the others, he requested, "Honey, let me see the bracelet." "No!" Bettany refused.
"Just one look," Hugh continued pleading.
"Hmph!"
Everyone couldn't help giggling.
Josh curiously looked at Edward. "Uncle Edward isn't wet at all! It's really waterproof, so amazing."
Max's research interest was ignited.
"How did it achieve this? Is there
really such a treasure in the world? +f
we could develop a similar device... Then, there wouldn't be so many accidentally drowning deaths or firefighters sacrificing themselves to save others from fires.
No one knew that Max secretly noted this down as his next key research project.
Lilly looked at Josh. "Right... Josh, why does it look like you've become a bit shorter than before?"
Josh's smile instantly disappeared.
