Spirits and Sorrows

Chapter EIGHTEEN

Kane’s army surged through the campgrounds, tearing down everyone and everything in their path.

Laura and the others wasted no time launching into action. She shifted into her wolf form took down the nearest member, a vampire, and ripped out its throat.

Hannah was frozen in fear as she took in the nightmarish scene in front of her.

Like before, a war was taking place in front of her. People were slaughtering each other left and right, tents were torn down, people were taken out. . .

She watched as Laura shifted into a huge wolf with raven fur and took down a vampire that was charging at them. Ruben shifted into a bear and took down other shapeshifters who were attacking a young girl. Peter immediately started to cast defensive spells everywhere, taking everyone down in his path.

Everything inside of Hannah screamed at her to take action, to help fight back or run but her feet remained frozen.

She was suddenly thrown face-first to the ground, a knee pressed in between her shoulder blades. She screamed as a hand fisted in her hair and yanked her hair back, strands of her hair ripped out of her scalp. A hiss sounded beside her ear and she knew a vampire was on top of her and getting ready to bite.

She squeezed her eyes shut and whispered the first defensive spell that came to mind.

The vampire fell off of her. She jumped to her feet and looked at where the vampire had fallen. The vampire who’d been attacking her was writhing on the ground, clutching his throat, his eyes nearly bulging out his head as his face turned red and purple.

She stood there for a brief second before it dawned on her. She’d cast a suffocating spell on the vampire, a spell that Mary had taught her. A simple yet effective spell to help her whenever she was attacked.

She sprung into action and cast the spell on other members of Kane’s army that were charging at her. She watched with horrified satisfaction - if a combination ever existed - as people dropped to the ground, suffocating to death.

Peter cast as many defense spells as he could, killing sups left and right.

He fought as a sorcerer since he could defend himself and others better with his magic than in his shifter form.

He saw out of the corner of his eye that Hannah was being attacked and struggling to defend herself. He turned to help her and felt a sword pierce his body.

Ruben fought in his bear form beside Hendrix and Sebastian as they hastily tried to get a portal open.

He kept guard over them and Laura. He desperately kept an eye on all of them as they tried to find a way to escape.

He looked up in time to see a huge gargoyle fly down to attack him but Mark, also in his bear form, cut it off in midair and used his claws to break it apart. He silently willed for the portal to happen quickly.
