Soul Searcher Book 1

Chapter CHAPTER SIX

Cassie never knew her willpower was so strong until now. She wanted to punch the stranger so badly, yet she stood still and glared at him instead. Being called sweetness though, that was the final straw. Taking Khloe’s hand Cassie stormed past the guy, making sure to bump arms with him as she went by. What she didn’t expect though was that when she made contact with him, just the slightest of grazes, hand against hand; was an electrical current to course through her. Judging by the guy’s reaction it was quite unexpected for him too. He stared after her, shock written all over his face.

Catching herself, and to hide her own shock, she smirked at him and continued walking. “Yo Cass, are you alright?” Khloe pulled her hand from Cassie’s grip causing Cassie to stop abruptly in her tracks. Looking around, wanting to know that they were nowhere near that strange guy, she nodded her head yes.

“I’ve never met that guy before, but I had a dream about him last night. It was quite strange. It seemed so real and then to see him standing in front of me, it took me by surprise. And I hate it when people say dumb things like sweetness. It irritates me!”

“He was definitely odd, that’s for sure.” Jimmy chimed in. “I’m pretty sure he sat down at the bar earlier today when you and I were chatting Cass.” This statement caused Cassie to turn and stare at him.

“Okay, this is just crazy. He’s suddenly showing up wherever I am. I think I’m just going to go home and call it a night.”

“Do you want me to walk you home?” Jimmy offered a little too eagerly.

Shaking her head no Cassie said, “nah, I’m cool. You guys stay, have fun. I don’t want to ruin your night. I’ll see you all later, okay.” Waving goodbye to them, Cassie turned in the opposite direction and headed back to her apartment.

I stare after Cassie, the shock of the electrical current that coursed through us when she purposely bumped into me had me frozen where I stood. It feels like her hand is still against mine. If I could have got myself together after that surprise, I would have chased after her and asked her what she did to us. But by the time I could think straight she was beyond my line of vision.

Finally able to move I begin to wander. I need to find this pure soul for Samael and get the hell out of this state. Debating with myself for a second, I decide to call him and see if he has any more detailed information on how I will find the human. “Hey Rim. How’s it going? Any luck yet?”

I give a strangled chuckle, “Ha, that’s funny. I was actually calling you to see if you had any further insight on how I find this soul of yours. I need to get the hell out of this state man!”

“What? Why dude?” I can hear laughter in Samael’s voice as he asks this and for some reason it irritates me.

“Because, I keep having very odd encounters with this human, this girl... I don’t know dude but it’s bugging the hell out of me, and I need to leave. So, do you have any new details that could help me narrow down my search?”

Samael snorts as I say this and then I hear him chuckle into the phone. “Rim, it sounds like you like this chick...”

“W-what the hell are you talking about Sam? What of my words has given any indication of me liking this chick, I mean Cassie?” I ask astounded that he would say such vial words to me.

“For starters, you said chick and then immediately said Cassie giving her life sustenance. And secondly, you want to leave. That means she is obviously having an effect on you. Honestly it sounds like you’re trying to run away from your feelings. Are you afraid to like a human? I’ve known many demons and angels and half-breeds who have fallen in love with those creatures.” I swear I can hear Samael shrug through the phone!

“You have no idea what you’re talking about dude! I wouldn’t touch a human let alone fall in love with one. That’s utterly repulsive.” A shudder courses through me at the thought.

“Yeah, okay. Whatever you say Rim. Anyway, at the moment I don’t have any updates for you. I’ll give you a call tomorrow night. As for now, I have a job to do. Chat with you later.”

“Right. Chat later.” Hitting the red circle on my cell, I disconnect from Sam and then stop walking. Just literal feet in front of me stands Cassie. Forcing my body to move, I walk right up to her and sliding my hand around the back of her neck, bring her face towards mine before placing my lips upon hers. The kiss starts out gentle but heats up quite quickly. A need unlike anything I have ever felt before takes hold of me and I urge her to part her lips so that I can deepen the kiss. Within the darkness of my mind, behind my eyelids, sparks of pure white electricity burst forth. I can feel the electrical current coursing through just my mind. It is pouring over Cassie as well, trying to merge our souls.

My eyes snap open and I can see tendrils of electricity running over our bodies, spider-webbing across our skin and then reality slams down on me and I push away from her. We stare at each other, our breathing hard and ragged as we do. I open my mouth to question her because I want to know what she’s doing to me, but no words come out. Instead, I give her a glare and then storm past her. I want nothing more than to get back to my house and think. I desperately crave the silence now!

***

What in the actual hell just happened, Cassie thought to herself as the stranger broke the kiss, glared at her for a second and then stomped off, leaving her shocked at what he had done and stunned at how her body reacted to him leaving her staring after him. She had never in her life experienced such a kiss. Cassie’s eyes had automatically closed as his lips made contact with hers. It didn’t matter that she didn’t even know the guy’s name, once his mouth was on hers, it felt like she had known him forever. Fireworks went off inside her mind. Bursts of electricity flashed behind her eyes making her yearn to melt against his body.

Just as her knees started to grow weak, Cassie felt him push away from her. She couldn’t believe he was going to leave her standing there and not tell her why he just kissed her, nor offered to give his name after doing so. Cassie wasn’t having it! “Oh, hell no!” She shouts out as she takes chase after him.

Stopping to catch her breath, she could feel that the guy was somewhere close by. Turning her head back and forth she tried to see if she could spot him. Glimpsing the heel of someone running up some steps, she took off in that direction but as she made her way up the stairs, she saw nothing but darkness. What in the... Cassie stared baffled into the night, astounded that he had somehow managed to vanish into thin air.

Being able to merge with the shadows definitely has its upside. Standing at the entrance of my beach house, I quietly try to catch my breath as I merge with the night and watch her ascend the stair-well of my temporary abode. Desperately wanting to touch her one more time, I clench my hands into fists and force them to stay at my sides. I watch as she swivels her head this way as she searches the area. Her eyes seem to be scanning every little nook and cranny and for a second my heart stops beating, and my eyes go wide as I feel like she has spotted me. I swear her eyes have just locked with mine but a moment later she turns on her heel and heads back down the steps and then turning to her left, walks down the sidewalk before turning the corner and disappearing from my sight.

Releasing the air from my lungs that I hadn’t realized I’d been holding in, I placed the key into the lock and swung the front door open. With one last glance behind me checking to make sure she is really gone, I walk inside, shaking my head about how the night had turned out. Crazy!
