Soul Searcher Book 1

Chapter CHAPTER EIGHT

Since I have been barred entry from Heaven, I have to figure out other means of staying in contact with my father especially because he doesn’t feel the need to have or use a mobile phone. Luckily Lucian and I have a decent telepathic link to each other. If I concentrate on just him, his sandy-blonde hair, white colorless eyes, and his somewhat intimidating height (6’5), I can call to him through that link.

Moments later I can hear my father’s deep baritone voice inside my head. “Yes son, is everything okay?” His question causes me to smile briefly for a second.

“What? Oh, yeah, everything is fine. I’m down in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, doing a task for Samael.”

“I still don’t understand why you choose to hang around him, Rim. He only ever leads you into trouble!” I can mentally see my father wagging his finger in front of him as he says this in my head.

Chuckling I say to him, “dad, it’s all good, I promise. I’m not even hanging out with him. I am just trying to locate something for him. It’s chill, I swear.”

“Alright, what is it you reached out to me for th--?”

Defensively I cut him off. “I don’t want anything from you if that’s what you’re thinking. I just had a question that I was hoping you might be able to help me answer.”

“Oh, well,” I can hear the shock in his voice as he stumbles over a response to me. Lucian pauses for a moment, “I mean, I guess I can try to help you. What’s on your mind?”

As I think about Cassie, I realize I have no idea what my question is for him. “So yeah,” I hesitate before asking; “am I a being capable of being able to fall in love with someone?” The question sounds ridiculous, and I clench my jaw shut tight, feeling like a complete dumbass for having asked such a stupid question.

“Ah, definitely not the type of question I was expecting you to ask. All beings have the capability of falling in love though, son. Why do you ask? It seems quite the random question coming from you.”

I shrug like he can see me doing so. “I’m not sure exactly why I asked but I’m experiencing these feelings that I’ve never had before for someone, and I just need some guidance, I guess.” Stars above, I sound pathetic.

It’s weird wanting to know what my father thinks about the situation. One would think I would go to my mother for this kind of advice, but since she is a demon, I felt my father is more adequately equipped to answer me. I can hear a smile in his voice as he asks; “an angel? Did you meet an angel? I knew you would one of these days.”

“No, no, not an angel per se...”

The disappointment can be heard clearly as he asks, “you met a demon? I was really hoping you’d fall for an angel. But I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Your mother is one after all...”

“Whoa, dad. She isn’t a demon either. In all actuality, she’s a human being!” I shake my head in disbelief as I allow the words to fall from my lips. From the sounds of it, dad is shocked as well.

“Sorry son, did you say a human?”

I start to nod my head yes but then remember he isn’t standing in front of me having this conversation. “Yeah, crazy right? Me liking a human. I can’t fathom the idea yet here I am claiming as much.”

“Fate works in mysterious ways son. Just go with the flow, don’t rush anything and Rim, be careful. Humans are way more fragile than angels, demons, and the supernatural beings you’re used to being around.”

“Yeah, I know...” As the silence hovers between us, I hear my father say he has to leave but that I can reach out to him later if I want to.

Rising from the floor where I had been sitting in a meditative state, I wander through the house and find myself plopping down onto my bed. Allowing myself to fall backward onto the bedding and closing my eyes, I realize that I am no closer to having an answer to my unknown question and confusion that lingers within my mind.

Cassie wakes with a whispered shout of ‘NO!’ falling from her lips. She felt upset that her dream had ended so suddenly. One second, she was standing directly in front of the stranger, no, wait, what did he say his name was... Rim and then the next moment her eyes were peering into the darkness of her room. She growled in frustration because she realized that Rim hadn’t told her why he had kissed her.

As she thought about the dream, Cassie couldn’t help but laugh at herself. Never in her life had she slapped someone, let alone punched someone before. He totally deserved it though! A smirk of sorts crossed her lips as she thought this. Her thoughts started to drift to other portions of the dream and how Rim spoke about the supernatural, how different he acted from other guy friends of hers; not that she considered him a friend... what stuck out most in her mind’s eye however were his eyes. They were a shade of lavender that she couldn’t quite say what the color truly was, and she wondered to herself as to if he wore contacts to make his eyes appear that unique hue.

Though he doesn’t seem like the kind of guy that would be one to draw attention to himself like that. Shrugging her shoulders Cassie decided it was time to get out of bed and start the day.

Grabbing her cell phone from off her nightstand, she sent Khloe a text asking if she wanted to meet up at a coffee shop that was located about a block from Cassie’s apartment. After getting a response of ‘yes’, she quickly made her way to her bathroom where she showered and brushed her teeth before heading back into her bedroom to get clothes on.

Twenty minutes later found Cassie opening the door to the entrance of the Social Kafe Shope. Just as the door closed behind her, she heard Khloe say, “hey Cass, over here.” Scanning the room, she spotted Khloe quickly as Khloe had her hand in the air, waving it to get her attention. With a smile upon her face, Cassie made her way over to where Khloe was seated and slid into the chair across from her.

“Hey lady, what you up to?” Khloe blew on her coffee before taking a sip as she waited for Cassie to answer. Before responding though, Cassie waved to the Barista who gave a wave back and then began to make Cassie’s usual Iced Mocha.

“Eh, not much. Tired of being stuck in my apartment. I felt the need for social interaction and in need of someone to chat with. Since Ginny isn’t answering her phone, I thought I’d see if you were free to hang.” Seeing Khloe raise a questioning eyebrow, she realized her words made it sound like Khloe was a second choice. “Oh gosh, the way I said that sounds horrible. I didn’t mean to make you sound like a back-up. Oh, Lord. I’m a horrible person,” she added as she slapped her hand against her forehead.

Laughing, Khloe took another sip of her coffee, “you could never be a horrible person, Cassie. I know what you meant, and I’m not offended by the way you said it. I know Ginny is your best friend. I’m just happy you consider me a friend too. So... care to explain the craziness of last night,” she added with a sly grin.

“Cassie, order up!” The Barista raised Cassie’s drink so that she could see it was ready. Throwing her first finger into the air, Cassie indicated for Khloe to hold that thought while she dashed over to the counter and paid for her drink.

As she sat back down and took a sip from her coffee, Khloe spoke as dawning realization hit her. “Oh my gosh Cassie! That dude from last night, he was the dude I had to turn away from the show the other night when we were sold out.” Her dark brown eyes grew wide at the memory.

Forgetting she had just taken a big swig of her drink; Cassie gasped at this fact and then immediately began choking. Two minutes later, she was finally able to respond to Khloe’s statement. “Are you sure?” Khloe simply nodded her head yes, leaving Cassie to ponder her words.

“Oh my gosh! I think you’re right.” Cassie exclaimed. This is just so weird. Now I really want to know who he is and why he kissed me like that last night!”

Khloe watched Cassie for a moment, a bit of worry in her eyes as she saw her wince in pain.

“Brain freeze?” Khloe asked as Cassie placed her first two fingers on either hand against her temple, trying to massage the dull ache that was beginning to throb against her skull.

Shaking her head, no, Cassie added; “no, these random headaches have been happening to me all of a sudden. I haven’t had any in over two years and then boom. I’m probably going to have to make a doctor’s appointment...”

Before she could finish her sentence though, Khloe interrupted her, “hang on a sec, did you say kiss? The stranger kissed you? When did that happen?”

Cassie ducked her head, a sheepish smile taking hold of her lips. “So, yeah. After I walked away from you guys’ last night, I wandered along the boardwalk lost in thought. And it’s weird because I didn’t have any specific place in mind as I walked, but somehow, I ended up in the same area as him. Before I even realized what was happening to me, Rim had placed his hands behind my neck, running his fingers into my hair and pulled me to him. Seconds later his lips are on mine and the craziest part is, I kissed him back! I couldn’t stop myself.”
