Chapter 8
Ch. 8 Samael
Hesitantly I lift my hand trying to keep my nerves from causing it to shake, I rest it against the door for a moment before knocking on the wood. Within a few seconds the door swings inward and Rim is standing in front of me welcoming me inside. “Cass is in the bathroom. She should be out in a second. Would you like me to grab you a drink? I’ve got water, coffee and some type of soda in the fridge, Coke maybe.”
I’m about to decline but then reconsider. “Uh, yeah man, I’ll take a water,” as I say this, I take a seat on his white couch. Rim joins me a moment later, bottled water in hand. “Thanks dude. I’m not sure why but I’m wicked nervous to see Cassie,” I chuckle for how ridiculous I’m being.
“I get it Sam. But you’ve no need to be nervous. Cassie’s really excited to talk with you. She couldn’t have agreed to meet up with you any faster than she did if she had tried.” Rim shakes his head as a smile graces his lips. His smile is infectious, and I find myself smiling in response. Cracking the lid open on my water, I take a sip just as Cassie appears from the bathroom.
“Hi-ya, Samael. Rim told me you wanted to talk with me, that you wanted to apologize for your actions and the way you were towards me. I want to let you know that I’m not mad and I understand what you were wanting. But I would like to hear your apology.” She smiles politely at me, and I nod my head before taking another sip of my water.
“Okay. I’m sure Rim told you or at least gave you some information. But here’s the whole of it. My witchy friend Shayla retold me what she had said, and I had misinterpreted her wording. You are a part of my journey to find the person I’m looking for. You are not the pure soul I need. I apologize a thousand times over for this misunderstanding. I am truly sorry for being such a fool and for any pain or hurt I may have caused you. Would you kindly consider helping me in finding the soul I need?” I turn my iced-blue eyes to her in pleading.
“Thank you, Sam. I appreciate you doing this and yes, I will help you. In fact, I may already have a clue as to the person you’re looking for.” I’m shocked by her claim. Excitement starts to bubble up inside me at the prospect. Could it be so simple?
“Really?” Cassie smiles at me as she can hear the hope in my voice and then nods excitedly.
“Do you remember my friend Khloe?” As she asks this my heart rate speeds up and I stare at her curiously. “Well, she and I were hanging out last night and she said something that piqued my interest.” I’m at a loss as to what Cassie is talking about. Arching an eyebrow, I think about the incident that happened between Khloe and myself that night on the beach and I wait with intrigue for her to continue speaking. “Khloe said that when she placed a hand on your hand that physical sparks occurred.”
A dawning light of realization clicks in my mind. “You’re talking about the soulmate bond, aren’t you?” I asked excitedly. She shakes her head up and down, excitement etched on her face now too. I glance over at Rim, and he has a smile plastered across his face. I stand up not being able to control the happiness I’m feeling, and I run my hands through my hair. “I had a suspicion that was it. I disappeared so quickly on her that she probably hates me now though. I shouldn’t have left like I did.” Ugh, I feel like such an asshole now!
“I know for a fact she doesn’t hate you. She might be a little upset with you because she feels like you’ve been ignoring her, but she doesn’t hate you.” I grin widely for having heard this claim.
“Okay, so now what? If she’s my soulmate, then I don’t have to worry about finding the pure soul. But what do we have to do for me to become mortal?” I ask anxiously.
Rim jumps in to answer my question. “I don’t have all the details, but I will reach out to Lucian since he is the one who first mentioned it. If anything, dad can at least guide us in the proper direction for getting the answers you seek.”
“Fantastic,” I exclaim. “In the meantime, do you have Khloe’s phone number? I need to see her again. I feel like such a jerk for leaving things the way I did.” I let my gaze flicker between both Rim and Cass as I wait for one of them to rattle off her number. Cassie sticks her hand out to me, and I place my cell in her palm. “Thank you, guys. I’m going to leave and give her a call. As soon as you get any information, give me a ring, please!”
They both stand and I can’t stop myself from hugging each of them and thanking them once more before vanishing out of the room and reappearing in the house I’ve been staying at while I’ve been in this specific state. With a deep breath I palm my phone and light the screen up so I can pull up Khloe’s contact info. I stare at the number as I try to build up courage to hit the call button. My thumb hovers over the green phone symbol for a second before I release the air in my lungs forcefully and slam it down and listen to the sound of the line ringing.
“Um, hello? Who is this?” I hear the delicate, musical voice of Khloe as she answers.
“Uh, yeah. Hey Khloe, it’s Samael. How are you?” I ran a hand through my hair as I waited for her response.
“Sam? How’d you get my number? What happened? Why did you disappear on me that night at the beach? Where have you been?” Khloe asks in a rush of words, and I chuckle softly for the barrage of questions.
“I’m so, so, sorry for disappearing on you like that, Khloe. I would like to explain to you in person everything, including why I suddenly vanished on you. Would you like to meet up somewhere so we can talk?” I know my tone is pleading but I’m dying to see her again.
“Hmm, I don’t work tomorrow night if you want to meet. We could go to the diner that’s down and around the corner from the venue...” As Khloe suggests this I smile widely.
“That sounds good to me. What time should we go?”
“You want to meet me there at 7p.m.?” Khloe asks inquisitively.
“Yeah, that works for me,” I say happily and then add, “it’s a date!”
