Chapter 1229
Chapter 1229 Best Friend
Heather's body tensed up at once. It was clear what Dexter was implying. She couldn't bring herself to keep a middle-aged man company but had no other choice.
Heather was at a loss for words when the door to the private room was suddenly pushed open. A gorgeous figure barged into the room.
"Oh, sorry, I walked into the wrong room. Please, carry on what you were doing. Wait a minute. Heather?"
Upon hearing the voice, Heather lifted her head, only to see Kate standing at the entrance of the private room, looking at her with a face full of surprise.
"So it really is you? I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me! Heather, it's been so long since I last saw you, and I've really missed you!" Kate walked over excitedly. Without any hesitation, she took the sea next to Heather.
If Alex was the last person Heather wanted to encounter in her remaining life, then Kate was the second person she hoped never to meet.
Her best friend had an affair with her husband during their marriage, and they even had a daughter. If it weren't for Kate showing up that day, she might have been kept in the dark her whole life.
Heather lowered her head and ate her food, completely ignoring Kate. She could only swallow all the anger in her heart, as she couldn't afford to upset Dexter who was still around.
As soon as Kate walked in, Dexter fixed his gaze on her lecherously. He lamented inwardly, Indeed, a beautiful lady's friends are all beautiful. This newcomer is pretty and curvaceous!
Even though Heather was ignoring her, Kate didn't get angry. Instead, she turned her attention to Dexter and asked with a smile, "Are you Heather's friend?"
Seeing the beautiful woman addressing him, Dexter straightened his clothes and said, "I'm Dexter Watson, Heather's boyfriend. You can just call me Dexter. I'm in the real estate business."
Kate's smile widened, but deep within her heart, she harbored a sense of contempt toward Heather. She hadn't anticipated that, after divorcing Alex, Heather would end up with a man who appeared so old and unappealing to her.
She deliberately mocked, "Heather, I must say, after a year of not seeing you, your taste has certainly become more distinct. It's quite surprising, I must admit!"
Heather's hands were trembling with rage. She gripped her fork tightly, suppressing the
anger in her heart. Kate is mocking me for dating an old man!
Alas, there was nothing she could do. After all, Kate was right. She could only endure it.
"Heather, why have you stopped talking? Are you feeling unwell? Should I call Alex to come over and take you to the hospital?" Kate asked in concern.
In Dexter's eyes, Kate was not only beautiful but also incredibly kind. On the other hand, Heather didn't seem to appreciate her.
Others might not catch it, but Heather understood the underlying meaning in Kate's words. If she was truly unwell, she could have directly asked Dexter to take her to the hospital. There was no need to summon Alex. It was clear Kate wanted Alex to see that she was dating an old man.
"No need to worry. I'm perfectly fine and not feeling unwell at all. It's just that your presence is bothering me. If there's nothing else, you should leave!" Heather said with clear annoyance, bluntly dismissing Kate.
Dexter's irritation with Heather's arrogant attitude was reaching its peak. He chided, "Heather, how can you be so ungrateful? Your friend is genuinely concerned about you, yet you speak to her in such a tone. You really lack manners. If you had even half the courtesy of this young lady, you wouldn't be in your current predicament."
Everyone was siding with Kate, even Dexter, who had set his sights on her. Heather was on the verge of tears. Her former best friend not only ruined her family but was now constantly targeting her everywhere.
My best friend, huh?
"Come to Room 608! I'm here."
While Dexter was busy scolding Heather, Kate had already called Alex. It was now too late for her to intervene.
