Slay My Soul

Chapter 7 Eve

Waking up from a blissfully dream-free sleep is the best feeling in days, after the hell that had tormented me. I stretch and feel Lukas’s morning wood graze my thigh and smirk. I slowly inch my way down, sliding his boxers up and slipping my fangs into his femoral artery. He groans, his hands sliding down to grip my hair.

“Jesus Luka! You lucky fuck,” Acassus bitches.

“She’s just feeding,” Luka says breathlessly.

The blanket comes off and my eyes roll up to look at a surprised Acassus.

“Oh. She is just feeding,” He says disappointed, dropping the blanket back down over me. I hear the hound head off to the kitchen and pop Luka free of his boxers as I retract my fangs and gobble him down, sliding him in and out of my throat. Luka groans again, he’s already on the edge from the more erotic bite, he won’t last long.

“Ahh, she’s giving you that bite,” Acassus laughs obliviously. I swallow, making my throat contract and he loses it. I wait for the throbbing to subside, swallowing his seed before pulling away, tucking him tidily back into his boxers, and crawling back up to snuggle in his waiting arms.

“Good morning to you too Amor,” he chuckles, as I snigger. “Feeling better are we?”

“Very much, I had the best sleep.”

“Did you have enough to drink?”

“Iron check, protein check, yeah I’m good to go,” I laugh. “Just need my caffeine. Did you need to feed?”

“Amor, if I feed off you right now, you can bet your ass you won’t be leaving the house for quite some time,” he tells me wagging his eyebrows. I am so tempted, but I also know I have a huge backlog of work to get through.

“Tonight?”

“Absolutely,” he says with a grin lighting up his face. I give him a quick kiss and head off in search of my caffeine. Acassus turns with a smile, handing me a steaming mug.

“Oh, come here gorgeous, you have a little something...” his thumb wipes over my chin, and then the idiot sniffs it and scowls. The spoon in his hand flies and hits Lukas’s head. “You fucker. You got a blowie!” Luka grins and I blink innocently as I sip my coffee.

“Now you’ve done it, he’s going to be foul all day knowing he missed out,” Mikyda chuckles padding over and claiming a bar stool. Acassus looks at me and pouts.

“Calm down you big baby, we can have a group therapy session tonight,” I tell him. He whoops and snatches the coffee off me, placing it on the safety of the counter, before grabbing my hips and spinning me around. He plunders my mouth, diving his tongue in and I laugh. “Dude, I just had a dick in my mouth literally five minutes ago.”

“Don’t care,” He growls, going back for seconds. He puts me back down, thwacks my ass, and then at last returns my coffee before wandering off to get his own. Darius yawns behind me and snuggles up, careful not to jostle my coffee, planting kisses up my neck before he goes to get his own coffee.

Carino takes a seat at the breakfast bar and I go over to him and kiss his cheek. He looks up surprised.

“Thank you for letting me sleep. I don’t know what you did but I feel like a million dollars this morning,” I tell him gratefully.

“You always look like a million dollars,” he smirks, recovering smoothly.

“I’m guessing you have stuff to tell us?” I ask. His smile falls.

“Maybe when you’re feeling less like a million dollars. I don’t want to spoil your mood,” he grumbles. My stomach clenches and I know I don’t want to hear what he has to say. I take a step back. “Fuck, too late.” He grabs my hand and makes me sit. I swallow hard.

“Fuck, it’s bad isn’t it?” He nods. “Rip the bandaid off then, let’s get it over with.” I hear Sirus yell out hello as he comes in the front door but my attention is solely focused on Carino.

“Asmodeus’s legion is rumored to be nearly three thousand strong and Belestine harvested Reece’s soul.” He says running the last sentence together. I stare at him running it back through my head slowly.

“Belestine harvested Reece’s- NO!′ I gasp looking at him in horror. He nods grimacing.

“That’s how he was getting to you in your sleep, letting his soul lead the way to your dreams. I’m so sorry Eve,” He says sincerely, holding my hand tight.

“How do we free it?” I demand.

“When we kill Belestine.”

I rip my hand from his and I’m up and moving, heading straight to the office to grab my knives and swords. I turn around to head out only to find Sirus in my way.

“Move!” I demand.

“I can’t Eve. No more going rogue, no more breaking from the group. We communicate and we work together, remember?” He growls.

“This is different! I have to-”

“No, Eve. It’s not going to happen. This is a knee-jerk reaction. He wouldn’t want you putting yourself at risk. He’s dead sweetheart, his soul may be stuck and we will free it as soon as we can, but what you need to focus on right now is the massive army the King can call on, and what we are going to do about it.” He blurs forward and snatches my weapons from me.

“You fucking asshole!” I scream, launching myself at him. Only to be caught by Darius in mid-leap.

“Kitten you need to calm down. You can’t help or do anything in this state,” He says sternly, pinning my arms when I take a swing at him. Mikyda steps forward.

“Don’t you fucking dare! I have every right to be upset!”

Mikyda pauses. “I just want to help Eve,” He says, eyes begging me to agree.

“I don’t want your help!” I screech.

“Eve, the bandaids are not off yet.” Carino pipes up, drawing my attention. “I think the Demons are the final piece of your mate chain.” I stop struggling immediately. Too shocked to even remotely respond. But the dipshit keeps going. “My bet, based on your history of the high-ranking mates you have, is it will be Asmodeus or one of his brothers. That’s how you stop the army. Ok, I’m done. Now you can lose your shit. ” He spins back to drink his coffee as I stare gape-mouthed at him.

I’m supposed to mate with one of the bad guys? Oh, let’s not forget he’s a demon too. A burning ring of fire and horns and under the control of Belestine, who has stolen Reece’s soul. A giggle comes out of me and soon I’m full-blown belly laughing. Ladies and gentlemen welcome to this fucked up thing called my life. I mean seriously, when does this shit end?

“I got you, Eve,” Darius whispers, cuddling me to him as my laughs turn to sobs.

God, I am so fucking sick of crying! Tomorrow I won’t cry at all, I promise myself. Tomorrow if shit goes wrong, I’m just going to fuck stuff up. I need to fuck stuff up. I wish for it.

Just then panicked voices race through my link. We are under attack.

Looks like wishes really do come true.

I don’t even bother with armor. Just my sword and my skills are with me as I run to the northern border. I see the holes forming in the ground and come to a halt as the beasties start to clamber out. I stand firm as the first launches at me, deftly slicing its head from its shoulders. Then I’m moving, spinning, and slicing. They are huge behemoths of men, but that doesn’t help them escape my wrath. I could just transform into my dragon and stomp the fuckers to oblivion but I’d rather be up close and personal. I want to see the lights go out in their eyes.

I laugh manically as heads tumble from shoulders. This is what I craved. This is the therapy I need. I swing at a particularly big thick-necked beastie and snarl when my sword gets stuck in his bones, instead of slicing through. He grins ferally and knocks me on my ass. His hands go around my neck and he begins to throttle me. I grin just as ferally back at him, as my vines burst out and swiftly wrap around him, plunging into his eyes, ears, and mouth and destroying him from the inside out. They fill him and he screams before his head explodes out and showers me in his blood. That was so fucking cool I want to do it again!

“You’re so creative, that was beautiful,” I coo and stroke a vine as they recede. I pull my sword free of what is left of his neck and turn to take in my surroundings. I know Carino said Asmodeus has three thousand men, but this is like a couple of hundred, at most. We are wading through them slowly but surely. If they keep sending only a few hundred at a time we will slowly deplete the King of his army.

Movement at the edge of the forest catches my eye. I rub my eyes in disbelief and look harder. There under an oak tree stands Reece, beckoning me to follow him. No fucking way! I race to him, only a few meters away from his outstretched arms when Carino tackles me, knocking the breath out of me. He swiftly pins me down.

“It’s not him Eve, you know it’s not!” Carino roars at me. “He’s dead, it’s Belestine using his image. Look how the edges are blurred and his features are not defined. It’s not him!” I focus on Reece whose smile turns sinister as his features bleed away into Belestine.

“I can help you Eve. Join your soul back to Reece. You just have to come with me.” He extends his hand to me as he steps forward. Carino mutters something and flings out a hand at the dark warlock, knocking him on his ass as he hauls me to my feet. For a moment I’m tempted to tug free and go to Belestine, but Darius’s words echo in my head.

What about the rest of us, do we mean so little to you? If you go, so do we. You’re it for us, Eve.

I snarl and back away from Belestine with Carino. Belestine shakes his head, disappointed.

“That’s a shame, I thought we could do this the easy way.” He turns and opens a portal, disappearing into it. The sound of fighting dies down behind me. I look behind us and see he has taken his minions with him. The dead demons disappear from the ground as well.

I thought I would feel better after swinging my sword around, but instead, my mind drifts to the image of Reece beckoning me by the tree and I realize I don’t feel better at all.
