Chapter 70
Indie ran and ran and saw the destruction she had left in her wake. What had she done? What was she thinking?
Sorrow tugged at her heart as flashes and fragments of memories seeped into her mind. They didn’t feel like her memories, they didn’t feel like something she would do. She came round a corner and saw her brother lying against a wall, Madeline was crying hysterically while Nathaniel and her mother tended to him.
Regret. As soon as her eyes fell on his motionless figure Indie was overcome with regret. She had let hatred for not only Noah but also Madeline fester and grow into something she never thought herself capable of.
She approached with caution and immediately felt unwelcome. Madeline stood and left Hunters side, she marched up to Indie and glared down at her, “if he dies I will never, ever forgive you.” Madeline was hurting, Indie could see it in her eyes and for once she didn’t have an answer for Madeline. There was no rebuttal, no joke at anyone else’s expense. Indie just nodded her head and felt tears spring to the corners of her eyes. She had really messed everything up.
Turning away from Madeline she walked towards her mother, “is there anything I can do to help?” She asked quickly. Rita was fussing over her son but was still absolutely petrified about what her daughter had done.
“You’ve done enough here Indie. I think you should go and rest up so we can tend to your brother.” For a moment Rita didn’t see her daughter standing there before her, she saw a monster, she saw someone who was completely selfish and disrespectful and it made Rita feel more than a little ashamed.
With a nod of her head Indie felt a hysterical cry waiting to escape her lips. “When Hunter wakes up can you tell him I’m sorry?” She asked her mother quickly.
“If he wakes up,” Rita replied. A sharp tone to her voice as she lifted her gaze from her son for long enough to hear Indie gasp and turn from the group.
Indie clapped one hand over her mouth, the other wrapped around the side of her waist as she walked quickly towards her room. As soon as she was out of sight she let out a sob that raked through her entire body. Her shoulders shuddered with the force of her cry as her face crumpled into a pained mess. Indie leaned against a wall to steady herself but instead landed on the floor with a thud. She barely felt the pain at the point of impact. Nothing could cause her more pain than what she had just done.
For someone who loved her family as much as she did she had forgotten about them so easily when in her lupine form. How could she have been so reckless, so evil? Indie had another of questions to answer, more from herself than any other.
She felt something thick being draped over her bare shoulders. She turned her head quickly, startled at the sudden warmth. Her gaze landed upon Naira who looked grim and rather tired but when she saw Indie stare up at her the intensity of her gaze softened.
“You’ve cause quite a bit of trouble I hear?” Naira pressed gently for answers as she swept her dress around her legs and sat next to Indie.
Indie hung her head in shame, “I’ve ruined everything,” she responded. Her voice full of sadness and sorrow and a deep sense of loss. “My mom and brother are probably going to hate me, Madeline will never forgive me and I told Noah I hated him.” The words left from her mouth quickly as indie was desperate to just talk to someone.
“Well do you?” Naira asked quickly as she filled the silence. “Do you hate him?” She pressed for answers again. Indie fell silent as Naira waited for an answer she knew was not coming anytime soon. “You know Indie. When I first met you I thought you had another of potential to be queen, to be someone our people would one day look up to.” she paused and stared at indie who had wrapped herself in the blanket she’d brought with her.
A frown pressed hard against Indies features as her brows knitted together and her lips curled downwards. “I don’t know,” she shrugged as she thought about how she felt for Noah. “I’m so confused. I don’t know how to feel,” she sniffed as she tried to force back her tears.
“You need to figure that out quickly Indie. Noah has been so patient with you and he doesn’t deserve a mate who doesn’t know what she wants.” The tone of Naira’s voice became a little more stern. While she liked Indie her loyalty was firmly for Noah and she wouldn’t let anyone drag him through the mud. “You either love him or you don’t.” Nairas was having trouble understanding why Indie was having such a hard time with her feelings. She had never met anyone so indecisive in her life and it was more than a little frustrating.
Indie felt as though she were a child being scolded for being greedy. She sighed and wiped her nose against her arm, “I don’t hate him. I don’t know why I said it.” She wiped her hands down her face and sighed in frustration, “do you think I’d still make a good queen?” Indie asked quickly. She wasn’t too hopeful about receiving a positive answer but part of her wanted to hear an honest truth.
“When I first met you yes. But now?” She paused for a moment and pushed loose strands of hair from Indies face, “right now, as you are Indie I would rather follow Verena or even Ebony over you .” Her words were harsh but Indie understood what she was saying. She had lost the respect of many of those she held close.
Indie braced herself against the wall and pulled herself up onto her feet. Naira stared up at her silently before following. “I’m sorry if that was overly harsh Indie but it needed to be said. You need to sort your shit out before you lose everything and everyone you love.” Naira had never met anyone like Indie who was so emotional about everything and so narrow minded.
“Thanks Naira,” Indie nodded once before heading off towards her room again, “I really needed to hear that.” With a smile and a nod she disappeared. She wasn’t entirely sure of what she was doing or how she would win back those she had disappointed and let down but she would give it a good shot.
Indie knew what she wanted, she just hoped he wanted her just as much.
Soon she arrived at a familiar door, the room she shared with Noah. Noah the man who hadn’t truly forced her to do anything she didn’t want, the man who had treated her like a queen, the man who had already given her everything she didn’t ask for.
She turned the handle and pushed to door open slowly. As the door opened she saw Noah standing near the fireplace staring into the flames silently. He didn’t notice her arrival and she didn’t expect him to with the intensity of his gaze. She entered the room and closed the door behind her gently so as not to startle him.
When she turned back to him his gaze had shifted from the fireplace to her and she felt the full force of his intensity. It sent a shiver racing through her.
Indie stopped to think about what she was doing, she knew why she was holding back, why their bond wasn’t strong, she knew why she was so reluctant and it came down to the promise she had made about her virginity. It was making her fear closeness and intimacy with Noah which wasn’t right and she felt the need to change that.
As Noah stared at her she dropped the blanket Naira had given her and stepped out of the puddle of thick itchy wool and towards her mate.
“What are you doing?” Noah asked carefully. He noted the look on her face and the sway of her hips.
Indie walked to him quickly and pressed her naked body against his. She didn’t have a clue what she was doing but she followed her instincts. Noah’s entire body tensed as soon as she touched him.
“Indie,” he breathed wistfully, “what are you doing?”
She answered by reaching up and pressing her lips against his gently. When he didn’t respond to her kiss she pulled away and looked up at him, he was still very tense, very rigid. “Please Noah, I need this. I need to feel close to you.” She pleaded with him gently.
“You made a promise Indie, I can’t.” He reminded her gently as he brought one hand up to her face and ran his thumb down her jawline. He desperately wanted to touch every part of her, to feel her body beneath his and although he thought her promise to the universe was ridiculous it seemed important to her and if it was that important then he would wait for as long as he needed to.
India took hold of his hand and brought it to her lips. She began trailing kisses along his palm and across his fingers before taking his index finger into her mouth. She sucked gently and saw the look in Noah’s eyes change.
“If you carry on this way I won’t be able to help myself.” While Noah was perfectly capable of restraining himself around her in normal situations the things she was doing to him was anything but normal.
“Good,” Indie muttered as she wrapped her lips around another finger and sucked gently. “I’m counting on it.” There was only so much she could do before she needed guidance. She was counting on Noah to take control. In the blink of an eye Noah pulled his fingers from her mouth and wrapped his arms around her to firmly. He pressed his lips against hers firmly as Indie followed his lead.
Noah felt her naked body against his, the bare skin of her chest pressing warmly against his, almost like silk. His fingers wound their way through Indies hair bringing her even closer. She liked his lips and Noah obliged eagerly. The intensity of his kiss scared Indie but she also felt an intense heat building inside her. This was what had been missing. This was what she needed.
She yelped and jumped back when Noah broke away suddenly and picked her up. Now that she had made her intentions clear to him he wasn’t going to stop till they had both satisfied their needs.
Walking g towards the bed Noah put her down and climbed on top of her quickly. He pressed his groin against her and heard her gasp when she felt his hardness, “this is what you do to me almost every time I’m around you,” his words were strained. He wanted her badly. He always had.
Indie wrapped her legs around his waist as he began grinding against her slowly. Noah nibbled and sucked gently on her earlobe as she began to moan loudly. Indie had never experienced such pleasure, such exquisite joy as his hot breath trailed down her neck and his kisses left scorching marks on her skin. She wanted it all but as Noah reached her collarbone the pair were quickly interrupted by a swift knock at the door.
“Ignore it, they’ll go away.” He mumbled against her skin as one of his hands cupped her breast and kneaded it gently. Noah was far too aroused to let anyone interrupt him. Indie was in no fit state to object. Her eyes were closed and her back slightly arched as Noah kissed and sucked various parts of her body.
Indie went wild when he closed his mouth around her nipped and sucked gently. He grazed it gently with his teeth and felt her squirm beneath him.
The knock at the door sounded again, louder and more insistent and Noah knew instantly that whoever it was would not go away. “Don’t move,” he released his grip on her and rearranged himself as he walked towards the door. Indie was like a puddle of melted butter, the only thing she would be doing while she waited for him was mingling with the sheets as she dove for cover.
She watched as Noah took a deep breath in before pulling the door open, “what is it?” He demanded rather insistently.
“I’m terribly sorry to interrupt you sir but it’s your sister. She’s almost escaped the dungeons. She has Fletcher in there and she’s demanding to see you.” Wade was flustered. Noah could tell.
“Where’s Andrew?” It was Andrew who should have been in there. Not Fletcher.
“He is there Sir but Fletcher volunteered to stay. He forced Andrew and Alpha Christiansen’s men out.”
Noah turned from Wade to retrieve a shirt. “I’ll be back soon,” he pulled the shirt over his head and walked towards Indie. He placed a kiss against her forehead and smiled. “Lock the door then get comfortable. I intend to finish what we started after I take care of Ebony.” And with that he disappeared leaving Indie all alone and looking forward to what was coming.
