Singularity

Chapter 43

Michalei hit the cold stone wall as the portal closed. A long string of curses flowed from his lips as he stormed back across the room to where Sephiroth lay dying. He pulled a vial from his pocket and lifted Sephiroth into his arms.

“You’re a sentimental old fool but you don’t deserve to die. Now drink,” He ordered pouring the liquid down his throat.

As Sephiroth’s lung healed he was able to breathe easy again. The potion did its job all that remained of his injury was a scar on his ribs and a tear on his shirt. He sat up and looked at Michalei unsure of his intent.

“She is lost to us now. I hope you’re happy.” Michalei said as he turned away.

“What do you mean?” Sephiroth asked as he climbed to his feet and followed after him.

“This was his plan all along.” Michalei stated. “I saw it for myself when I connected to him.”

“What did you see?” Sephiroth replied harshly as he grabbed him by the shoulder.

“It was his intent to take her from us!” Michalei shouted. “He has taken her to Earth where he can erase the knowledge of who she is and keep all her power for his own selfish pleasures.”

Sephiroth’s eyes went wide with shock. “We have to get her back.”

“Haven’t you done enough damage already?” Michalei hissed as he pulled away.

“Well, what do we do then?” Sephiroth shouted.

“We wait,” Michalei sighed. “They have to come home eventually. Until then, we have to take care of Avalon so she has something left to come home to.”

Sephiroth nodded and slumped up against the wall. With despair he realized what he had done. He had played right into Domascus’ game. Tears fell down his cheeks as he hit the floor in agony. Michalei should have let him die. Instead he would have to live with the knowledge of what he had done. He would suffer from it and he was certain that he deserved it.
