Chapter 40
Sephiroth came down the stairs and slid open the stone door. He strolled right over to Michalei as he continued to torment Domascus. He was nearly unconscious when Michalei pulled his hand away taking the pain with it.
“Where’s Kira?” Sephiroth asked.
“What do you mean? Isn’t she in her room?” Michalei growled.
“I was just in there. I looked over the whole castle and assumed she was with you. But apparently she isn’t.” Sephiroth replied.
“Son of a bitch,” He hissed and stormed away without another word.
Kira rushed out from the shadows. She made her way across the room and stopped in front of Domascus. He just hung there, half conscious. As she stripped away the restraints he fell into her arms.
“Wake up love.” She begged.
He slowly opened his eyes, “Kira.”
“Come on, I need you to get up.” She begged.
“What are you doing? You’ve got to get out of here.” He said as she tried to lift him.
“I’m not leaving without you Domascus. So get up and help me open the portal.” She demanded.
“I can’t. My power is gone.” He hissed.
“You have to love. I don’t know how. You’re the only one that’s gone through that way.” She stated.
“Come on Kira. You’ve got to go.” Sephiroth prodded. “You’re running out of time.”
Kira nodded and held Domascus’ head in her hands. She pressed her lips to his and breathed life back into him. As his strength returned he wrapped his arms around her. Michalei stood at the base of the stairs, and soon began to snarl in anger as he saw what was happening.
“Kira,” He boomed.
“Shit,” She said as she realized they were caught. “Now would be good love.”
Kira threw up a barrier between them and Michalei. Domascus took a deep breath and began chanting as the wall started to glow a bright white. Michalei grabbed Sephiroth by the neck and put the dagger to his side.
“You stop this now or your father dies.” Michalei growled.
“Papa,” She cried out as the barrier faltered.
Domascus grabbed her arm. “It’s open. You’re going to have to drop the barrier and make a run for it.”
“You go, I’ll be right behind you.” She said.
“Kira, we do this together or not at all.” He said. “I won’t leave you again. It’s better to die together than to live alone.”
“Go Kira.” Sephiroth demanded.
Kira hesitated but Michalei did not. The dagger plunged through Sephiroth’s ribs and into his lung. As he fell to the ground Kira wept. Michalei marched on the barrier intent on stopping them.
“There’s nothing we can do Kira. Let it go.” He said as he took her hand.
Kira nodded and let the barrier fall. Domascus turned her away and raced toward the wall. Michalei reached out and tried to pull her back but it was too late. They jumped into the light and it closed instantly behind them.
