Chapter 59
Overnight, the Evans family went bankrupt, and all their properties vanished into thin air.
Their family was then harassed by a slew of debt collectors.
He recalled that, besides crying, Skyler had followed Patrick to acquire a loan at that time, and had received the cold shoulder
and hardships alongside him.
People, though, were played by fate.
His father, Thomas, could no longer withstand the mental torment in Frostford City.He could not take it anymore.
He ended his fifty-eight-year life by jumping from the top floor of the Evans Group's original location before it was relocated.
The blood that flowed out of his body was washed away by the heavy rain.
He left behind the huge debt that he owed and a thin will.
A lot of things happened after that.
For a moment, it was uncertain.
As for what exactly happened to Patrick and Sophia, he did not really know, but he reckoned that it had something to do with this
issue.
Skyler's eyes kept staring out the window.
The car slowly passed behind Sophia and the others.
He looked back at her.
"The more I stare at that little girl, the cuter she is.She looks a little like Sophia’ Skyler cheerfully said.
He was not kidding at all.
Patrick could not say anything.
While they waited for the traffic signal, he could not help but take out a cigarette box and light up a cigarette.
The thin white smoke dissipated slowly.
His hands trembled, but he managed to hide it so well that Skyler did not notice.
Previously, he ordered someone to check on Sophia's whereabouts in Australia in the last five years.
That person told him that during that time, Sophia got pregnant and had a prenatal checkup in the hospital, then eventually
delivered a child.
She had stayed there since the divorce, according to the time.
He was certain, though, that the child from back then had been aborted.
Could the child she was holding, then, be the child that he found during his investigation? Did she have an affair with another
man and give birth to a child? How did they get to know each other, love each other, and be willing to have a kid together? Did it
mean that she loved that third party very much? He had a lot of questions and wanted to get them answered.
He was well aware, though, that it was not that simple. He could not put into words how he felt just now.He simply knew that his
heart was uneasy and he felt nervous.
The traffic lights shifted for a minute.
Patrick stepped on the accelerator, and the car started to run again.
"Patrick?" Skyler called him.
Skyler felt sad when he remembered what had happened five years ago.
"Huh?" Patrick reacted gently.
His deep eyes were fixed on the road ahead of him.
"I remember Kirstine saying that when you and Sophia were in Australia, she was already pregnant. But it was an ectopic
pregnancy. When the child died, it almost took her life."
"Was it because she had poor health that she thought that she wouldn't be able to feed the child? Or was it because aborting the
child meant not having any burdens on her shoulder, and she could keep living her life?"
Skyler had had this question in his heart for the past five years.
Despite the fact that Patrick was the one who was involved, he had never asked him.
He only asked Kirstine whenever he thought about it.
Kirstine, on other hand, would merely shake her head and say that it was none of his business.
He only had to concentrate on his studies.
Skyler had mentioned the aborted child in front of him for the second time tonight.
He would not have neglected his feelings as much in the past.
"You're still a child.Little children know nothing’ Patrick looked at him with the expression of a parent who adored his child. Those
who knew him well, on the other hand, could see a deep sense of tiredness between his brows.
"Patrick, please don't treat me like a child all the time.I am already twenty-one years old.I am a medical student who is about to
graduate.I know how damaging a miscarriage can be to a woman. Some are even too old to have a child in this lifetime"
Skyler was not really trying to terrify people.
When it came to abortions or miscarriages, the damage to a woman's uterus was immeasurable.
Some women were lucky and did not suffer from any lasting impact.
Some women would learn to live a normal life, get married, and have children again, but some women were not so fortunate.
Their uterus would become weak because of the miscarriage and they would completely lose their chance to be a mother.
Some women would even die before the fetus could be completely removed.
"It doesn't matter" Patrick denied.
Skyler let out a sigh.
Before, he did not clearly understand Patrick's way of doing things, but now he felt that it was reasonable.
Could it be that because he had grown up? Patrick had to be cautious and monitor his every step back then even though he was
the Evans family's eldest son and with their family in such a terrible situation.
He needed to be certain that each step he took was flawless.
Skyler was now pointing to his current self as an example.
He would have to let go of Stacey if he unexpectedly lost everything and was no longer the second son of a wealthy family.
Skyler could not offer or give her anything.
He might as well just watch her from afar and silently be happy for her rather than let her suffer with him.
It was already ten in the evening when they arrived at Kirstine’s villa in the mountains.
The villas in the wealthy district were next to each other.
When it was very late at night, the sound of cars could be heard.
Some of the pet dogs raised outside would let out a bark that could be heard clearly.
Skyler took out the things he bought from the trunk and followed behind Patrick into the villa.
Kirstine was not yet asleep.
She was sitting in the living room watching TV.She was wearing a simple nightgown. and her long hair was casually tied up.
The face mask on her face had not yet been taken off.
Although she was already thirty-eight years old, it was impossible to see the wrinkles left on her face by the passing of time.
Instead, as time went on, she became more gorgeous and charming.
Just like wine, after a long period of time, it would get tastier.
Kirstine felt strange and curious when she saw them appear together.
She took off the mask on her face and stood up from the sofa as she patted her face.
She pulled on her slippers and walked closer to the two of them.
"Why are you two brothers together? Don't tell me you guys went to have fun together and left me behind?"
Sometimes, Kirstine was quite childish when she was in front of her two younger brothers.
Maybe because she was the one who raised them, and her love and dependence on them were self-evident.
"Skyler told me that he wants to move to my place to live." Patrick smiled.
Patrick walked past Kirstine and sat down on the sofa.
He took the cigarette and lit it up, then began to smoke.
Kirstine’s eyes instantly turned red when she heard what Patrick said.
Skyler was different from Patrick. She had raised him since she was young. She felt like a mother to Skyler.
They were more like mother and son.She always cared about his food, food, accommodation, and transportation. She loved him
with all her heart and could not leave him alone. She stared at Skyler with tears in her eyes.
"Why do you suddenly want to move away? What did I ever do wrong?"
Skyler put down the big shopping bags and reached out to hug Kirstine.
"Look, you did nothing wrong, but you're always like this.I'm already a grown-up, yet you still don't trust me enough? When I was
a child, you were worried about me.It wasn't easy for me to grow up, but I grew up well thanks to your love and care. Now, I am
giving you your freedom. You can finally take a rest and date a lot of guys."
Kirstine raised her hand and placed it on Skyler's shoulder.
"Ever since I was young, I was the one who raised you.You can't tell me to just relax and not worry about you, you're my
youngest brother, but you are like a son to me.Kirstine felt like crying again the moment she was done talking.Skyler tightened
his arms around Kirstine.Since he was a child, he had never seen his mother.
His sister was the one who took great care of him.He recalled the first day he went to kindergarten when he was a child.
That was the first time that he had truly left his big sister's side. She was also in the same state as he was in that kindergarten
back then.
Just how he cried so much that day, Skyler was also crying so hard today.
