Single Mother: Struggling With The Dangerous CEO

Chapter 37

The man inside said in a deep voice, "Please come in"
Sophia pushed open the door and walked towards the table.
The man was sitting at his desk, reading documents.
"President Evans, this is the meal sent by the General Manager for lunch.I am here to bring your share"
She addressed him as President Evans to show her respect and kept her distance.
Patrick frowned and replied with a grunt.
Sophia realized that she was not told to go just yet, so she politely stood for a while.
But she also saw that he was seriously reviewing the documents as if he had no intention of speaking, so she chose to turn
around and go out.
Just as she was about to leave the room, Patrick asked, "How did you sleep last night?"
"I slept well!"
Sophia replied, "One night without dreams’
"Is that so? You didn't wake up in the middle of the night to turn on the lights?" Patrick asked.
Sophia shook her head firmly, "No, I did not wake up in the middle of the night last night."
She lied. She had insomnia last night, and she liked to turn on the lights every time she had insomnia. She was afraid of the dark,
and someone said that people afraid of the dark tend to feel lonely.
"Sit on the sofa first.I will give you a document to work on later.Help me arrange it in the afternoon."
Patrick instructed Sophia.
Sophia felt that they had finally entered a formal business relationship.
Thus, she walked over happily and waited for him to bring her the documents.
After a while, the man picked up the lunch box she brought and walked to her side to sit down.

He pointed to the stack of documents on the reception coffee table, "Take a look at these documents first.I have to use them in
the afternoon.Hurry up and sort these out."
Sophia nodded, "Yes, President Evans."
When she walked out of the General Manager Office with the documents, she found out that the documents could not be sorted
out in a week, let alone in an afternoon.
It seemed that she would have to work overtime again every night this week, and just thinking about it made her headache.
Meredith, Theresa, and Jenelyn finished their work and disappeared like wisps of smoke in the evening.
Sophia was still young. She should be enjoying a night out after work.
But here she was, living like an old person every day.
Sophia didn't like staying up late.
She wanted to read books, drink tea and play chess.
These seemed to be the things that older people wanted to do.
Patrick was also working overtime.
On the way to the beverage room, he passed by the General Manager Office entrance.
Sophia saw Patrick was on the phone. She did not know who the other party was because he talked in a low voice.
Sophia concentrated on locking at the screen, but she still heard his voice like he was just beside her.
At half-past eight, she walked out of the Evans's building.
It was raining outside, and she forgot to bring an umbrella.
Sophia cursed herself for being forgetful.
She lost count on how many times she forgot to bring an umbrella which always ended up in her being drenched in the rain.
Patrick's car stopped in front of her at this moment.

He opened the door and said, "Get in.
I'll take you home’ Sophia bit her lip and subconsciously distanced herself from him.
"No, Mr.Evans, I'll just take a cab."
Patrick frowned, "Get in the car."
Sophia shook her head.
Patrick didn't say anything anymore.
He closed the door and stepped on the accelerator as the car shot out like an arrow.
The car disappeared in a flash.
Sophia smiled, but she felt something about to fall from her eyes. She knew it was tears, but she was still trying to hold it
back. She was glad that she pulled back in time and didn't have any more fantasies about him.
When she got home, Sophia was already drenched. She took a hot bath and climbed into bed.She thought that her feelings were
like a dam breaking.
Once it cracked, the water inside it would gush out continuously.
When she got up the next day, Sophia felt that her head was heavy and she felt dizzy.
Her experience told her that she had the flu.
If only she knew that she would catch the flu after being drenched by the rain last night, she would have stayed in the office for
the night.
She was barely able to get up.
After she washed up, Sophia looked at herself in the mirror and saw someone unfamiliar.
She found herself looking at the mirror and saw someone unfamiliar because something inside had changed.
She was no longer a simple person but a greedy woman who wanted more.

Over the weekend, Sophia had just come out of the hospital after visiting her mother when she received a call from Fiona.
"I wonder if Miss Hill has the time to accompany me for shopping today?" Fiona asked.
It was rare that Sophia didn't work overtime on the weekend, so Sophia felt exceptionally good today.
"For the sake of your hard work, I approve."
Fiona whispered on the other side of the line with a smile.
The two of them promised to meet at the entrance of the Century Mall's department store on 10th Avenue.
Although it was not a particularly high-end shopping mall, it was not bad either.
It was just suitable for people like them with regular jobs.
The price was not that high, and there were often discounts.
Fiona and Sophia had similar salaries and tastes, so they often made an appointment to go shopping together at a nearby mall.
It was just that Sophia was very busy in the past few months and has rarely accompanied Fiona since then.
Standing at Century Mall's Department Store entrance, Sophia looked around, but Fiona was nowhere to be found.
Just as she was about to call Fiona, Sophia's phone rang.
"Sophia, please wait a little longer.
There is a traffic jam’ Sophia smiled, "Alright, but you must treat me to ice cream later as an apology from you."
Fiona also smiled, "You will only dare to say that to me, right? If it were someone else, don't even think that they'll agree to your
unreasonable request. The two of them spoke a few more words before hanging up the phone.Sophia walked to the bench on the
side and sat down to wait.
Suddenly, she saw a piece of news on the commercial screen across the street.
"The Huntington Construction Group has issued a public relations announcement this morning that they will be stationed in
Frostford City at the beginning of this month. The actions of the said company will undoubtedly revive and bring a big change to

Frostford City's economy. Its scale and coverage are so wide that it is unheard of? This news was being reported in real-
time.Sophia was bored waiting, so she watched the news very seriously.
Thus, she overlooked a car slowly creeping at her from nearby.
If you looked from the outside of the car, one would notice how dark the glass was, and it was impossible to see whether the
person inside was aman or a woman.
The mobile phone in the bag vibrated.
Sophia retracted her gaze from the news, thinking Fiona had called her again.
But it was not who she was expecting to call.
It was Patrick calling.
Sophia stared at her phone for a long time, but she decided not to pick it up.
She just let it vibrate.
After that rainy night, the two had not seen each other for half a month.
They worked on the same floor, but their paths did not cross.
It was not hard to imagine that they were avoiding each other deliberately.
They just avoided meeting physically.
What about their feelings? Could they avoid what was in their hearts? After the shock ended, she thought he would not call
again, but unexpectedly, he called her again.
Sophia didn't want to answer, but her mobile phone kept on vibrating.
She thought, ‘Why won't he stop? Don't push me! She struggled not to answer the call. She felt that both of them did well in
avoiding each other these past few weeks.
Why would he call her now and waste those weeks of effort?
‘Does he still love me? How could he?’ Sophia thought bitterly.

He already had a lover, and she no longer had any hope for him.The hurt she experienced five years ago was so deep and
painful.
How could she forgive and forget? She could not do it.She could not accept him, mentally and physically.
