Chapter 13
Sophia felt powerless and disheartened as tears welled up her eyes.It had been a few years, but she had never felt this way.
"As the president, I think being able to sit here and listen to the words of a lowly transfer employee is already very
condescending. Please understand your identity and your etiquette!" he exclaimed
"Also, I am not a philanthropist..." he continued.
His suspicion of her grew stronger.
A deafening silence came between them as a cloud of thick smoke surrounded the room.
"Tell me, Sophia, what is your purpose in coming to Evans Enterprise?"
After a few seconds of hesitation, Sophia spoke.
"Well, as what you expected, I came here for money, power, and you..." Sophia replied.
Sophia stood up angrily.
No matter how much she tried to explain, it would be futile as he had already determined the truth.
"Just treat me as a person who only cared about making ends meet and nothing more. This way, it would be easier to deal with!"
she cried.
She admitted it.
"Wait a minute!" Patrick exclaimed.
He threw the cigarette butt away and caught up to her quickly. His long and slender hand grabbed her arm with force. He turned
her halfway and slammed her into the wall, almost breaking her back.He held her head on one side and looked down on her
from above.
"So, it really wasn't you?" Sophia shifted her gaze away from him.
"Will you believe me?" she asked with a trembling voice.
Patrick lowered his head.
His breathing was extremely close that she could feel the heat on her face.He held her chin tightly, forcing her to face him.
She resisted, but he was even more forceful.
His thin lips came close to Sophia's face, stopping just beside her ear.
Her body became tense and stiff because of his approach.
"There is only one chance, Sophia."
His casual tone was filled with a strong warning.
His magnetic voice seemed to have an endless penetrating force, directly pounding at her eardrums.
"Mr.Evans, do you think an ordinary employee like me who is busy earning for living and speaks insincere words to flatter
colleagues have any reason for telling lies?" she uttered with a rising tone.
Sophia's eyes were filled with tears, but she forced herself to smile.
"Sophia, I hope this will be the last time that we meet alone. This is almost more than I can tolerate" he said firmly.
"What a coincidence! I couldn't agree more, Mr.Evans"
She was not to be outdone.
"I'm glad we came to that agreement!"
These might be the last words he would ever say to her.
Being strangers to each other might be the best and comfortable state for the two of them.
He would not allow any more mishaps to happen.
It didn't matter what Sophia's goals were.
On the highest floor of Evan's Group building...
John entered the door of Patrick's office, holding a stack of information in his hand.
"Mr.Evans, I have checked all the video recordings yesterday about Sophia Hill.It was blank.Even the surveillance footage on her
way home from the workplace was completely blank; he notified.
"So she has no evidence to prove her innocence.Do you think we should call the police?"
John continued.
Patrick's eyes raised when he heard this.
"Don't disclose this yet.Try to collect all the data before it leaks"
Patrick instructed John.
"Also, reset and encrypt all employee passes. If others know that some of the employees' passes that can easily open the group's
confidential document room, we will be in trouble." Patrick continued.
Suddenly, an idea came to Patrick's mind, and he took one look at John.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" John asked, befuddled.
"You didn't instruct me to kick Sophia out of the company. How could I act on my own without your permission?"
"Besides, to be able to delete all the video information in such a short time takes a lot of skills that cannot be underestimated!"
Patrick lowered his head.
"All in all, it was all my fault? “ he muttered.
Patrick rubbed his forehead and continued to instruct.
"It's not the time to blame someone.
First, since they deleted the video remotely, investigate the IP address.
Also, inform the network engineering department and all department managers.I want to hold an emergency meeting; Patrick
said in a firm tone.
"Yes, right away, Mr.Evans." John quickly turned to do all his tasks.
As soon as he touched the door handle, Patrick made one last request.
"Wait, decentralize the control of the evaluation department.Let Lianna make the decision directly. No need to ask me anymore”
he said.
"Noted on that, sir' John confirmed.
As soon as Sophia returned to the evaluation department, a few female colleagues from neighboring seats surrounded her,
trying to get information from her.
"Why is Mr.Ward looking for you? The company's higher-ups seem to be very concerned. What happened?" they queried.
Sophia shook her head, "I have no idea.Mr.Ward is just asking about the evaluation case of my original company”
"Oh, have you heard? Mr.Evans' fiancee is going to work in our group. She will become a vice president despite the fact that she
has no experience.I have to say that the president's fiancee is truly different to normal people, always enjoying the special
treatment!" one chattered.
"Really? Doesn't his fiancee have her own family business?" another one inserted.
"Of course, it is true.He is rich! He can't think the same way as us, ordinary employees"
As everyone was busy chit-chatting, an angry voice came screaming from behind.
"Don't you have some work to do?!" Lianna shouted.
Lianna just came out of her office to go to a meeting when she spotted three or five employees gathered just to chat.
That was when her anger immediately rose.
"I repeat, the Evans' Group doesn't tolerate laziness! If I find you gathering to chat next time, prepare to hand out your
resignation!" she said furiously.
Everyone hightailed when Lianna spoke.
Sophia didn't know if it was an illusion, but she felt how Lianna was looking at her.
It was somehow deep and meaningful.
As Sophia was about to get off work in the afternoon, Giselle approached her with a painful expression.
"Ms.Hill, can I ask you for a favor? I have a really bad stomachache today.” Lianna asked me to send her the meeting
information.
Can you help me send it? I am really in a hurry? Giselle hastily said. Her colleagues in the office were more or less the
same. Most of them would call her Ms.Hill only when they were asking for Sophia's help because, in this way, they could show
her respect.
The truth was, Sophia was the oldest in the evaluation department.
She was just 27 years old! Would that be considered old? Perhaps, it would!
"No problem, Giselle.Go and take some medicine. That would ease your stomachache" she comfortingly said to Giselle.
"Got it.Thank you, Ms.Hill.I owe you one!"
Due to the heavy atmosphere in the company today, everyone was unusually tense and in a bad mood.
The conference room for the emergency meeting was on the 27th floor.
When Sophia went to deliver the meeting information, she got lost.
Although the area of each floor was the same, the layout was completely different. She just got a headache looking at each and
every department or floor.
It was not that she was being lazy, but her sense of direction was pretty bad.
Suddenly, she heard a voice.
"Since everyone says that you love Adriana, why don't you marry her yet? Thomas has been dead for three years. Please don't
use that as an excuse for not getting married"
The voice came from the door of the stairway, which was half-open.
"This voice sounded very familiar..."
Sophia thought to herself.
Sophia kept on thinking, who was that familiar voice she heard.
Then, suddenly, it came up.It was Lianna.
"This is my business.I don't think the whole world needs to know about this.Let's go; this meeting is over"
Patrick declared.
Patrick walked out to smoke halfway through the long meeting.
He did not expect Lianna to follow him.
As he turned to leave, Lianna grabbed his arm firmly.
"Sir, what are you hiding from us?"
Lianna stared at him in the eyes.
"Miss Parson, we have such a great relationship both personally and professionally.I don't think we can accomplish our job doing
such things. Please remember that I am your leader, he firmly stated.”
Using his harsh words, Patrick implied that if Lianna wanted to maintain her relationship with him, he had to make it clear
between them.
