Silly Bride novel (Winnie and Xavier)

Chapter 358

Harold: Go in now!

Winnie's brows furrowed when she read Harold's text.

After a brief moment of silence, the woman looked toward Xavier instinctively.

Xavier knew that it was very dangerous inside the chemical plant. He gazed at Winnie for a second before pulling her into his arms.

"It will be all right. We are wearing bulletproof vests. Just stand behind me. I will protect you even if the sky comes crashing down."

Winnie chuckled silently while leaning against Xavier's chest.

A few seconds later, she pounded on the man's chest gently before saying, "What are you talking about? The sky won't crash even after both of us are long gone from this world. Let's inform James about the situation. He told us to try to hold up until reinforcement gets here."

Xavier agreed and tried to get James' attention.

As James had stayed online, he responded immediately when he heard Xavier calling for him.

"What's the situation over there now? Reinforcement will reach the chemical plant in about twenty minutes. There seems to be something strange going on in the factory right now. Our Special Task Force migh take action anytime."

"Twenty minutes is too long," Xavier replied in a hushed voice. "Our situation here is not looking good. Harold wants us to head into the chemical plant now. We can see the light coming from the factory. It's very likely that the people you are after are inside. Didn't you guys capture one of Harold's accomplices earlier? Did he tell you where Harold had planted the bomb? If we don't do as he said and enter the chemical plant within ten minutes, he might detonate the next bomb."

"No! That guy refused to tell us anything. We don't have any clues on the next bomb yet. Just try to think of something to buy yourselves more time." James did not have any better ideas, and he could only suggest that the couple use a delay tactic.

However, just then, Winnie's phone pinged again.

When she saw the words on her screen, she frowned deeply and said, "That's not going to work. We can't drag any longer. Harold has already started counting down. He's serious. There's no other way. I'm going in now."

Winnie knew that it was her life that Harold wanted.

Lisanne was never the man's ultimate target.

Besides, Harold loved playing mind games. He must have gotten an immense sense of satisfaction from being able to trick her there.

Since he was so insistent, Winnie had decided to meet him face to face.

Meanwhile, both Xavier and James also understood that that was the best option they had under the current circumstances.

Xavier held Winnie's hand tightly. Even though he did not speak, his intention was clear. He would be by her side at all times. After weighing the pros and cons, James made a decision.

"All right then. The Special Task Force is ready to take action too. I will get them to protect you secretly. Also, do you guys have the pouch I gave you earlier?" "Pouch?" Xavier frowned. After giving it some thought, he looked at Winnie and asked, "Is it with you? I saw you carrying something when we got out of the car just now." "Yes." Winnie nodded. "It's with me, but I haven't opened it yet. I have no idea what's inside."

"Open it now." James' voice sounded through the earpiece. "There is a pair of night-vision goggles and some other stuff that might be useful for you guys."

"Okay!" Xavier immediately moved his lit phone screen toward Winnie and said, "Let's take a look."

Winnie glanced at the man before reaching toward her lower back.

However, there was nothing there!

With the illumination from the phone screen, Winnie searched anxiously on the ground and frowned. "Sh*t! The pouch is gone! I remember having it with me when we got out of the car. You saw it too! Why has it disappeared?"

Xavier turned around and tried to trace back their steps, but the pouch was simply nowhere to be found.

"Maybe we dropped it along the way here. It was a rough path. The pouch might have been caught in a branch."

"What should we do?" Looking distressed, Winnie said softly to Xavier, "It was probably inconvenient for Officer Clark to say it out loud just now, but he mentioned that there is a pair of night-vision goggles and other things inside the pouch. Those other things could be weapons. It will be dangerous for us if we go in completely unarmed. We have to find the pouch no matter what."

Xavier hummed in acknowledgment before saying, "Let's not panic first. I remember that you accidentally tripped and fell just now. Do you think you could have dropped the pouch at the place where you fell? I remember there was a small pit there."

"Right. I did fall while we were walking here. When I got up, I felt something hooking onto my blouse. Maybe that was when I lost the pouch. I don't think it's too far away from here. There is probably enough time for us to go back and find it before going to the chemical plant."

"Okay, this is the plan, Xavier." Winnie gave the man's hand a squeeze. "You will wait here for me while I go get it."

She turned around after saying that, but before she could leave, Xavier grabbed her arms.

There was no way Xavier would let her take such a risk.

"I'll go instead. Just stay here and wait for me. I will be back within five minutes regardless of whether I find it or not." From the tone of his voice, there was clearly no room for negotiation.

"All right!" Winnie gazed deeply into the man's eyes and responded, "I'll be waiting for you here."

"Okay."

"Wait!" Just as Xavier was walking away, the woman suddenly stopped him.

"What's wrong?" Xavier turned around to look at his wife.

As the couple locked eyes, the man raised his arm and smoothened the creases between Winnie's brows. "Why are you looking at me like that? You look like you are already missing me," he said.

"I am already missing you," the crease between Winnie's brows grew deeper before she cursed, "That d*mned pouch! Why does it have to create trouble for us at such a crucial moment!"

Xavier chuckled, feeling amused that Winnie had gotten upset with a pouch.

When Winnie saw the man's smile, she smiled as well.

Then, she wrapped her arms around her husband's neck and kissed his lips passionately.

However, as they were rushing for time, the kiss ended quickly.

"You should get going," Winnie looked at Xavier and continued, "I trust that you will be able to find the pouch and bring it back!"

"I will!" Xavier patted the woman's head before turning around and heading into the forest.

Once he was out of sight, Winnie fished a pouch from behind a tree.

It was the pouch she claimed to have lost...
