Chapter 346
Left without a choice, Josiah resigned himself to becoming a driver for the couple.
He didn't comment any further since Xavier had declared the matter a secret.
Unknown to him, Xavier was messaging Louis.
He had sent the name of the restaurant Winnie had wanted to go to earlier to Louis with the intention of buying it over. Subsequently, he wanted them to perpetually reserve a private room for Winnie so that she could always dine there without having to queue.
When Josiah noticed that Xavier was occupied, he chatted with Winnie instead.
"Ms. Garland, what did you tell Greta in the end? I saw the serious look on her face back then. Is it a secret? Are you allowed to say?"
Shooting Josiah a look through the rearview mirror, Winnie couldn't help but laugh. "There are no secrets between us."
A wide grin emerged on Josiah's face. It feels good to hear her say that! "I'm all ears."
Winnie went on to satisfy his curiosity. "Thereafter, I brought up the matter about Mason with her. Since Mason has recently become my bodyguard, she asked if he was aware of my trip here."
"That's right." The same question popped into Josiah's head. "Hasn't he been guarding you closely? Didn't he come along this time?"
"He didn't." Winnie explained, "Officer Clark had it planned ahead of time. Before we came, he told us that the trip had to be kept a secret, and no one must be told about it."
Josiah nodded. "In that case, what does Greta plan to do? Now that we have stopped investigating her abruptly, Mason will definitely become suspicious."
"You're right, but Greta says that she'll contact Mason directly to resolve the matter. That said, she still needs some time, so we'll have to keep it from him for the next few days." "Got it." After giving it some thought, Josiah added, "You should replace your bodyguard soon then, as Mason might be leaving in the near future."
Winnie grunted in acknowledgment. "I've already given the matter due consideration."
After having lunch together, they went their separate ways.
As Garland Group was now run by a professional manager, there wasn't much for Winnie to do.
When she left her office, Xavier was still at work. Hence, she decided to head straight to Fairchild Corporation.
Even though she arrived to find Xavier still in a meeting, she was in luck as the secretary informed her that he would be out in around ten minutes. Nonetheless, Xavier was still just as busy upon emerging from the conference room, speaking on his phone the entire walk back to his office.
However, the sight of Winnie waiting for him inside caused him to swiftly end the call.
Unfortunately, he just had too much work. No sooner had he hung up than another call came in.
His first reaction was not to take it and pretend that he didn't hear it at all, but in the end, he pressed the answer button when he saw the name on the caller ID.
After giving him a quick glance, Winnie didn't disturb him. Instead, she gestured for him to continue his call.
Nevertheless, she could quickly tell that the person he was speaking to was none other than Wilhelm.
Hence, she walked to his side the moment he ended the call.
She asked curiously, "Do you talk to Wilhelm frequently?"
"Yes, mostly about work." While speaking, Xavier put his phone on silent and chucked it aside.
Once he made sure that the office door was locked, he swept Winnie off her feet and carried her to the couch.
Even while sitting, he was taller than Winnie by an entire head. Thereafter, Winnie put her arm around his shoulders and gestured for him to lean against her.
Ever since he became an adult, Xavier had never leaned against anyone in this manner.
Now that he felt the urge to be intimate with the woman he loved, he naturally did as he was told.
As she stroked his head intermittently, she asked, "Is Wilhelm a pain to deal with? Did he make things difficult for you?"
Threading his arms around her waist, Xavier nuzzled his head against her chest.
"No. Other than work, we talk about you. Compared to the treatment I received in Yartran back then, his attitude toward me has improved significantly. Despite that, he still insists on testing me physically and desires to train together with me."
"In that case, ignore him. He was trained by the special forces and isn't someone an ordinary person can handle. Anyway, I'm glad that your relationship with him has taken such a positive turn."
"I'm just hoping not to put you in a spot." After lying against her for a while, Xavier still felt awkward and decided to pull her into his embrace instead.
Just as he was about to say something, he was so enthralled by her eyes that he couldn't resist leaning closer to her.
"Winnie, I want to kiss you."
Without waiting for her response, he pressed his lips against hers.
All this while, he had been suppressing his desire.
He refrained from any intimacy with her due to her gloomy mood over what happened with Jacinta.
Now that the truth was out and the misunderstanding between them cleared up, he was overwhelmed by the urge to close the physical distance between them.
He yearned for nothing more than to express his undying passion and love to her.
Three days later, Winnie had found a new bodyguard.
Coincidentally, Greta had reached out to Mason, telling him to meet her.
Filled with elation, Mason informed Winnie right away and requested to take the day off.
Given that Greta had invited Mason out to clear the air between them, Winnie figured that the former must have finished dealing with her own affairs.
As a result, she approved Mason's request for leave.
Nevertheless, she couldn't help but sigh to herself when she saw the ecstatic look on his face.
Mason still doesn't know Greta's true identity. Once he learns of it, he'll understand why the two of them can never be together and why his love for her is fated to be unrequited.
Once Mason took his leave, Winnie departed for the hospital.
A new course of Xavier's medication had been produced and she was due to collect it.
In reality, she could have let Josiah run the errand alone, but since Xavier had managed to squeeze out a few days of holiday and planned to take her on a trip, they had to bring the medication along with them
It was already late once she picked the medication up. Nonetheless, Josiah still needed to show her how to inject them into Xavier, which required the latter's presence.
Hence, both of them headed to Lagune Mansion together.
By the time they arrived, it was already dark.
Winnie had barely driven the car into the garage when a man covered entirely in blood appeared right in front of her.
Shocked by the sight, Winnie slammed on the brakes.
Spread the love
