Silly Bride novel (Winnie and Xavier)

Chapter 318

"Nate?"

Winnie was momentarily at a loss for words.

She wanted to accuse Nate of getting in her way, but she figured she shouldn't be that unreasonable since the man had sacrificed himself to protect her.

The assailant in front of her dropped the knife and ran away immediately after realizing that they had stabbed the wrong person.

At that moment, Winnie recognized that the person was a woman, and she was most probably Nate's fan.

She could tolerate these fanatical fans throwing things at her, but they had gone too far this time by attempting to stab her with a knife in broad daylight. Thus, she was determined to send the culprit to prison. Jacinta was shouting to alert everyone about the incident when that woman stabbed Nate.

Her voice was loud, and she yelled several times in a row, so she quickly attracted the attention of passersby. A few good samaritans even stepped forward to help apprehend the assailant.

Winnie took off after the assailant too. Soon, the latter was subdued by Winnie and the passersby.

Her mask accidentally fell off while she was struggling, and Winnie recognized the woman at a glance.

She was a little surprised. "Shania?" She's not a fan of Nate?

Shania spat in response and said with disgust, "You are the one I wanted to kill, b*tch! How dare you mess with me? I will make you pay a heavy price!"

Winnie found the whole situation hilarious. "You were the one who provoked me first. Anyway, you should save these words for the police. I don't want to hear them."

With that, Winnie picked up Shania's hat, crumpled it into a ball, and stuffed it into Shania's mouth.

Since she was holding Shania down and couldn't call the police, she asked the passersby for help.

After learning that someone had called the police, she shoved Shania aside.

After a while, Jacinta walked over supporting Nate.

Winnie glanced at the blood dripping beside Nate's feet and couldn't help frowning. "Aren't you going to the hospital?"

"Yes. I've already called an ambulance. It will be here soon." After explaining, Nate asked, "Are you okay? Are you injured?"

"I'm fine." Winnie swallowed the words that were at the tip of her tongue for she felt that now was not the time to say them. "Just take care of yourself. Don't do anything reckless in the future."

"All right," Nate responded softly. "I panicked just now. Now that I think about it, you probably would've caught her if I didn't show up just now. I'm sorry. Looks like I've done something wrong out of goodwill." Winnie hummed a response. "Find someplace to sit down and rest since you're injured. Don't stand here."

The security guards in the shopping mall rushed over three minutes later, while the police car and ambulance arrived simultaneously five minutes later.

Winnie and Jacinta went directly to the police station because they were not injured, while Nate was taken away by the ambulance.

They went to the hospital after they finished recording their statements at the station.

After all, Nate blocked a knife for Winnie, so by right, she should go and visit him. Mason drove the car to the hospital upon listening to Winnie's order.

On the way there, Jacinta asked Winnie, "Winnie, why did that Shania girl want to kill you? I asked the police officers about this, but they didn't tell me her motive. Can you tell me what's going on?" "Shania has always been petty and narrow-minded. She must have done it to get back at me. Last time, she yelled at me during Nate's birthday party, and Xavier was pissed off, so he taught her a lesson. I think the punishment she got for her own actions was the cause of her mental perversion."

"But she doesn't look like a bad person to me. What did Xavier do to force a person into such a state?"

Winnie looked at Jacinta in disbelief. "Granny, how could you say that? She's a woman with a problematic character. Otherwise, she wouldn't have picked on me for no reason at the clothing store in the first place. What she said on the night of the banquet was even more extreme. Even if Xavier didn't make a move, her agency wouldn't be able to handle her mess for her and would definitely terminate their contract with her. Xavier wanted to teach her a lesson, so he called her agency to blacklist her. Under such circumstances, if she couldn't bear her predicament and asked to terminate the contract, she would need to pay huge compensation. This is the whole story. She was merely stewing in her own juice."

Jacinta explained herself, "Oh, so that's how it is. I thought Xavier had pulled off some shady tricks. Looks like I've misunderstood him."

Winnie frowned. "Granny, Xavier is really not as bad as you think."

Twenty minutes later, Winnie and Jacinta arrived at the hospital.

Instead of visiting Nate right away, Winnie went to meet Nate's attending doctor first, as she wanted to know about Nate's condition straight from the horse's mouth.

The attending doctor routinely asked, "Are you the patient's family member?"

In order to understand Nate's condition, Winnie responded, "Yes. I want to know his current condition. Is it serious? Are his internal organs injured? Does he need to be hospitalized?"

"Hmm... Wait a minute. Let me take a look," said the attending doctor while clicking on Nate's medical record on the computer.

After taking a look at the record, he raised his head to look at Winnie.

Then, he said solemnly, "The external injury he suffered isn't serious, but I will advise the patient to be hospitalized for close observation because we found out that the patient has some heart problems during the examination."

Winnie was a little taken by surprise. "You're saying that he may have heart disease which has nothing to do with his wound. Is that so?"

"That's right." The attending doctor nodded. "Look at this film. The knife was stabbed between the two ribs, but the wound isn't deep, and his vital orangs weren't hurt, too."

"Okay." Winnie nodded. "I get it. Does he know about the result?"

The doctor hummed in response, and before he could say anything, Nate's voice sounded from outside the door. "I already know that."

Winnie was surprised by his presence. "Why aren't you resting in bed?"

"It's not a severe injury, anyway, so I thought I'd come here to ask the doctor some questions. I didn't expect to see you here," Nate explained before he asked tentatively, "Are you here to visit me?" Winnie glanced at him. "What else could I be here for? Since you're fine, I'll leave now."

"Wait a minute!” Nate immediately stopped Winnie. "Can you wait? I have something to tell you."

Winnie frowned reluctantly, but on account of the man's injury, she still agreed, "Okay. I'll wait for you outside."
