Chapter 6
Chapter6
Kara’s cute eyes glowed with anger as she stared at Grace.
Hmph!
This mean woman had bullied Rina.
Each time she thought about what Micah had told her, she got angrier and angrier.
“Mr. Logan, you’re back.”
A voice announced his presence from the doorway. Grace, who’d been busy in the kitchen, popped out while still carrying dishes.
“Howard, you’re here.”
Kara watched Grace put on a facade of gentleness and rolled her eyes in disgust.
It looks like this evil lady is better than her at acting.
“Mmhm,” Howard responded lightly. As he walked toward the sofa, his previously stern eyes landed on Kara and softened.

“Rina!”
“Daddy!” Kara greeted good–naturedly.
With Howard’s handsome face back in front of her, affection
filled her once more.
He paused before taking a seat beside Kara. He leaned forward and picked her up before depositing her in his lap.
“What’s Rina been up to while at home today?”
He tried his best to start a conversation with “Rina,” wanting
to hear her talk more.
It could also help her condition improve further.
But would she give him an answer?
How would she respond?
Kara cocked her head to the side, lost in thought.
He frowned, disappointed at the silence hanging over them.
“Mr. Logan, don’t worry too much. I think her condition has definitely gotten better than before. Today, she even told me that she wanted to eat sandwiches. She’d never done that

before.” Cindy walked over, happy to share her good news.
Howard looked down at Kara and tenderly patted her head with his outstretched hand. “Rina’s doing great.”
“It’s all thanks to Ms. Brown, Mr. Logan. If she hadn’t taken her abroad for that treatment, our little Miss might not have recovered this well.”
That’s not true at all. Kara deflated at her words, pursing her mouth in disagreement. Her eyes flashed angrily as she rolled them.
Just as Cindy finished speaking, Grace joined in. Her face had taken on a tinge of red.
“Don’t say that, Cindy. As my daughter, I just want Rina to grow up nice and healthy.”
“Let’s start eating.” Howard scooped up Kara and strode into the dining room without sparing a look at Grace.
The humble smile on Grace’s face froze, her eyes staying glued on his departing figure.
Kara turned and made a face at her.
Grace stunned. When she looked again, it looked like “Rina” had only been quietly leaning against Howard’s shoulder. It

was as if she’d imagined things.
Did she see it incorrectly?

“Rina, come and sit down. Let’s eat.” Howard tried to put Kara on her child’s seat, but she held onto his clothes and refused to let go.
“What’s wrong?” he asked softly.
She didn’t answer, maintaining her grip on his shirt.
Grace marched over, spitting some stern words in Kara’s direction. “Rina, listen to Daddy. Come give Mommy a hug. Daddy’s been working all day and is very tired.”
“Ahhhhh!”
As soon as Grace took a step in her direction, Kara began to scream loudly.
Grace recoiled in shock, overwhelmed by the sudden noise.
The little girl took the opportunity to burrow deeper into Howard’s arms.
Gazing down at the emotions spilling out of Kara, Howard affectionately brought the distressed girl closer to him. He softly comforted her, “Don’t be afraid, Rina, Daddy’s here.”
Oh, wow, Daddy’s hug is so warm.
Kara returned his embrace with an even tighter hug, basking in this newfound fatherly love.
“Rina, what’s wrong with you?” Grace worriedly stepped toward her.
“Ahhhhh!”
When Grace came close once again, Kara resumed her uncontrollable shrieks.
Howard flinched. He looked up at Grace and coldly interrogated her, “What did you do to Rina?”
“I…” Grace was clearly disgruntled, unsure of what was happening.
“Rina’s obviously afraid of the mere sight of you. I think it’s best if you go back to your family,” he stated flatly.
The bad woman was leaving?
In her mind, Kara celebrated her victory.
Grace stared at Howard incredulously. She’d finally gotten the opportunity to stay with the Logan family because of her trip

abroad to treat Rina.

But now, because of this useless girl, it was over before it had even begun.
She gritted her teeth, hatred coursing through her. She shot a malicious stare in Kara’s direction only to be spotted by the mischievous girl.
“Ahhhhh!”

“I don’t see you leaving yet,” Howard snapped.
Although she was reluctant, the only thing Grace could do was comply.
If she upset Howard, her hopes of marriage would get even farther from her reach.
Howard gently stroked Kara’s back, whispering words of comfort, “It’s okay, Rina. Everything’s okay.”
Once she’d seen that Grace had disappeared, Kara finally ceased her shouting. Her wild emotions faded until she was back to her well–behaved self.
“What’s wrong with the little Miss?” Cindy seemed confused at what had transpired.

Howard didn’t respond, taking the time to softly address Kara snuggled up in his arms, “Rina, can we sit down and eat now?”
She nodded her head demurely.
Howard lowered her onto her seat and fondly served some food on a plate for her.
“Thank you, Daddy,” Kara said politely out of habit.
Howard’s hand stiffened, his utensils freezing in mid–action.
The “Rina” in front of him was a huge contrast to the previous version whose emotions ran wild. It was as if they were two different people.
Noticing that Howard wasn’t moving, she thoughtfully picked up a piece of meat for him.
“Daddy, you eat.”
He only became more incredulous at her action. Was this still the same daughter of his who closed herself off from others?
Did I do something wrong?
Kara watched his reaction, slightly tilting her head in confusion while nibbling on her finger.
He finally returned to his senses, realizing how his demeanor must have frightened her. He hastily withdrew his scrutinizing gaze. “Thank you, Rina.”
Kara let out a sigh of relief.
Mr. Handsome wasn’t just good–looking. He was also very nice. However, he must not have very good vision. How else would he have chosen someone as mean as that lady to be his
wife?
It would be great if her mommy was in that mean lady’s place instead.
Back at the villa, Sally helped Scarlet with preparing dinner. It was almost time to call out to her children to come and eat.
Before she could, Micah and Rina left their room.
“Have my two cuties made up yet?” she asked with a smile, fixing her gaze on them.
Micah nodded vigorously. “All better.”
What a gentle smile. Rina stared at Sally, freezing in place before nodding along.

“Well, since the two of you are on good terms now, let’s go
wash our hands and start eating.” Sally’s grin deepened as she waved them off.
Taking Rina’s hand in his own, Micah led them over to the bathroom.
At the same time, Scarlet walked out of the kitchen, her arms laden with steaming dishes. She said jokingly, “Children are so innocent. Their emotions come and go so quickly.”
“Yeah.” Sally watched the backs of her two children and beamed harder.
She never had to worry about her little ones getting into a serious argument.
That was because each time there was a conflict, it would barely last for more than three minutes.
Whoever was in the wrong would apologize, and there wouldn’t be any lingering blame.
After getting cleaned up, Micah skipped out of the bathroom, still holding Rina’s hand. Meanwhile, Sally and Scarlet had gotten all of the dishes set out on the table.
“Here, Kara, this one’s yours.” Sally slid over a bowl filled with warm rice in Rina’s direction.

The girl stared up at her, lost in thought. Her eyes welled up with envy at the life that this “Kara” had.
“Scarlet, come sit and eat with us,” Sally welcomed.
“Oh, no… it’s not appropriate. I’ll eat in the kitchen after I clean up everything.”
Sally tugged on her arm, inviting her to sit. “No need to be so formal. There’s no one else with us to say otherwise. Let’s just eat together once the food’s ready.”
“All right then.” With that, Scarlet dropped her formalities.
Rina gazed up at Sally in awe, as if having Scarlet join them was an unexpected move.
“Kara, why’re you looking at me like that? Here, these are your favorite braised pork ribs. Make sure to eat quickly.”
Sally picked out a large piece and placed it in Rina’s bowl.
The young girl withdrew her stare and hunched over her food. She shoved a large spoonful of rice into her mouth, savoring the warmth spreading throughout her.
As she ate and ate, Sally studied her from across the table. Her brow was slightly furrowed. Something about “Kara” seemed strange to her. She was too quiet, almost as if she
