Shattered Illusions: Love Lies and Redemption ( Lizetta ) Chapter 324
Chapter 324
The news eventually made its rounds among the elite, some saying that Martin, a company CEO, couldn’t even handle a bit of drama, which was quite unbecoming of a man.
But as a woman, who wouldn’t want a husband like Martin?
Over the years, despite Barbara’s blindness and deteriorating health, Martin remained by her side, their marriage an enviable blend of love and loyalty.
The only cloud over their happiness was the tragic loss of their only son, Quentin, a misfortune that stirred compassion even among the happiest of families.
Lizetta couldn’t help but step forward, looking at Barbara she said, “Mrs. Barbara, you need to take care of yourself. That way, Quinn can rest in peace, knowing you’re okay.”
Barbara turned towards Lizetta’s voice.
Perhaps finding the voice unfamiliar, she grasped Remington’s hand and asked, “Who’s that?”
Remington turned around, took Lizetta by the hand, and brought her closer, saying, “Barbara, this is my wife, Lizetta.”
As he spoke, Remington brought Lizetta’s hand to join his in holding Barbara’s.
But Barbara’s demeanor cooled instantly, and she shook off Lizetta’s hand forcefully, saying, “What do you mean, ‘rest in peace‘? Nonsense! Quinn is just fine, handling business abroad. Stop cursing my son, get out! I want you to leave!”
Barbara’s reaction was fierce, and Lizetta, taken aback by the sudden push and Barbara’s harsh words, staggered back.
At that moment, Martin, worried and anxious, stepped forward, inadvertently bumping into Lizetta.
Lizetta’s back hit the edge of a nightstand, causing a sharp pain.
“Barbara! It’s okay, it’s okay. Quinn’s abroad, you need to rest, and then you can talk to him on the phone,” Martin tried to soothe Barbara. Remington had not expected Barbara to react this way, seeing her agitated and somewhat delirious state, he furrowed his brows.
He looked at Martin, who silently sighed and shook his head.
Remington then realized Barbara must have been upset by some online trolls, overwhelmed by grief and momentarily out of touch with reality.
“Barbara, please, calm down.”
Barbara, breathing heavily, collapsed back onto the bed, Remington holding her hand in an attempt to comfort her. Barbara coughed a few times, then angrily said, “Remington, she’s spouting nonsense! Make her leave, I want her out!”
Lizetta stood there, utterly bewildered.
She’d only wanted to offer comfort and had not anticipated such a reaction.
She looked at Remington, who briefly met her gaze before turning back to comfort Barbara.
“Wait for me outside,” he said.
Lizetta’s lips parted as if to say something, but before she could, Remington had already turned away.
Lizetta felt thoroughly ignored, and a pang of discomfort welled up in her chest.

Yet, given the circumstances, she couldn’t really blame Remington for anything.
Silently, she turned and left the room, closing the door behind her.
She made her way to a bench nearby, gingerly sitting down and cradling her lower back where it still throbbed from the collision. Perhaps it was just her imagination, but it seemed like Barbara didn’t quite like her.
She remembered how, as a child, when Remington had taken her to the Wests‘ for a holiday visit, Barbara had prepared gifts for everyone except her.
Lizetta had thought maybe Barbara wasn’t aware she’d be visiting, an oversight.
But for a family like the Wests, whipping up a last–minute gift was hardly an inconvenience.
Yet, she and Barbara had no bad blood between them; there was no reason for Barbara to single her out deliberately.
Perhaps Barbara’s outburst was truly just a moment of distress.
Lizetta didn’t want to dwell on it any further. She sat on the bench, hoping Remington would come out soon, and everything would be fine.

But being pregnant made her unusually sleepy, and before long, her head began to nod off, her body sliding off the bench.
Just as she was about to fall, a strong hand reached out, steadying her gently.
