Chapter 824
"Mr. Dashiell is really getting ahead of himself. I was just concerned about the child."
When she denied it, Remington raised an eyebrow with mild amusement and remarked, "So, if you're not jealous, it means you fully trust that nothing would happen between Stella and me, even if we spent the night together." His lips curled into a slight smile. "Liz, do you trust me that much now?"
Lizetta felt that Remington wasn't just being presumptuous; he had mastered the art of charming his way through situations. She rolled her eyes at him without hesitation and responded with a sarcastic smile, "As long as you're happy." Now, as Remington watched Lizetta, he found her feisty attitude both lively and endearing. His smile remained as he chose to explain, "Last night, around 2 AM, I stayed to make sure the baby's fever went down. The nurse assured me it wasn't serious, so I left Cedric there and headed back to Oakridge Heights to get some rest..."
He provided a detailed account, almost as if he were reporting his schedule to her. Lizetta felt a complex mix of emotions. If he had always been this transparent, perhaps they wouldn't have had so many misunderstandings, leading to their current predicament. Suppressing her feelings of regret, she interrupted him, "You don't need to tell me all this."
Remington, however, replied, "Are you heading to work? I can give you a ride."
By this time, his driver had already pulled up with his car. Lizetta stood her ground, shaking her head, "I drove myself, no need. Since we've run into each other, there's no need to meet up again tonight..."
She wanted to get her questions answered now to avoid meeting up for dinner later. But Remington seemed to anticipate her thoughts. Without waiting for the driver to help, he opened the door himself, slid into the car with a swift movement.
As the car window rolled down slowly, his clear and indifferent profile returned to its usual cool demeanor. He nodded slightly at her, glanced at his watch, and said, "I have a meeting soon and I'm running late, see you this afternoon." Lizetta was left speechless...
Just moments ago, he had asked if she wanted a ride. But before she could question him, he signaled the driver, and the car sped off, vanishing from Lizetta's sight almost instantly.
Lizetta drove back to her office,
where the receptionists, Snow and Jessica, were whispering about something. Upon seeing Lizetta, their laughter ceased abruptly. Ever since the unpleasant encounter in the break room, they had been subtly ostracizing her. Lizetta didn't mind much and walked past them.
As she passed, Snow and Jessica resumed their lively conversation. Lizetta caught a snippet about a newcomer in the finance
department next door. She didn't
pay it much attention and ret met
to her desk to continue working on the proposal. She planned to submit the partnership proposal to the Starlight Group in the afternoon and needed to hurry.
The office suddenly buzzed with excitement towards the end of the day-it seemed the new colleague next door was treating everyone to milk tea. Lizetta was still busy with some parts of her document and kept her head down, continuing her work.
Then, a hand placed a hot cup of milk tea on Lizetta's desk, accompanied by a sweet voice, "I wasn't sure which flavor you'd like, so I just picked one for you. Try it, and if you don't like it, I'll get you another." Lizetta suddenly looked up, her expression changing upon seeing who it was. "What are you doing here?!"
