Shattered Illusions: Love, Lies, and Redemption ( Lizetta )

Chapter 468

Back when Stella was running a high fever, she forgot a lot. It was like she was walking in a fog, completely out of touch with her family.

Her memory came back in bits and pieces. Last year, Stella tried to escape, but it ended in failure. She was caught and beaten half to death. The physical toll over the years was immense. Medical reports ever suggested that she might never be able to have children again."

Listening to all this, Lizetta felt her heart sink.

She had no idea Stella had gone through so much.

No wonder Stella was crying her eyes out in the café, and Remington was totally on her side, insisting Lizetta apologized.

Because even though Stella was brought back, Remington's guilt seemed to have deepened.

"Liz, I didn't hand Evelina over to the West family. I've got her under surveillance. It's not exactly jail, but it's pretty close. I promise, she won't bother you again. Once she's had the baby, she'll face the consequences of her actions."

Remington held Lizetta's hand, his gaze filled with a hint of anxiety.

Lizetta took a deep breath, "You've already made up your mind, and it's not like I have a say in it, so let it be."

Her demeanor was calm, not showing any signs of anger.

But how could she not be hurt when he failed to keep his promise once again?

Remington stood up, wrapping his arm around Lizetta's waist.

"I know you're upset. How about we go to a jewelry auction in a few days, just to take your mind off things?"

Men often try to make up for their guilt with material things.

Designer bags, clothes, jewelry, or even houses and yachts.

But sometimes, that's not what women really want or need. And these gestures aren't always from the heart; sometimes they're just for their own peace of mind.

Lizetta, lacking enthusiasm, said, "The dance troupe's performance is next week, and I've got to take care of Yoli. I don't have the time, so let's skip it."

Remington's expression darkened slightly, clearly displeased, but he didn't push her.

"Alright, we'll wait until after your performance."

Lizetta nodded. Just then, the clinic door was knocked on, and it was Cedric with some clothes for a change.

After Remington left the hospital, Lizetta went back to Yolanda's room.

She handed Yolanda a bank card and two property deeds.

"This is a token of appreciation from the Dashiell family."

Remington had personally escorted Hanna to the hospital to thank Yolanda for her help.

But they hadn't expected to see Lizetta talking to Stella in the café.

Knowing Hanna's insincerity, she sensed that her visit would've only disturbed Yolanda's rest. Lizetta accepted the gifts on Yolanda's behalf, and refused the visit for her.

Yolanda, looking at the bank card and property deeds handed to her, felt overwhelmed by the situation.

"Is Hanna really that generous? Liz, should we really accept this? It doesn't feel right. By the way, how big are the houses? Which neighborhood are they in, and how much is on the card?" Oh, the shame of it all.

Yolanda covered her face, peeking through her fingers with a look of disbelief.

Lizetta, smiling, waved the bank card and property deeds.

"Both properties are in prime locations, probably worth around four to five million dollars each, and there's two million dollars cash on the card. Hanna isn't that generous; I had Remington twist her arm. Are you sure you don't want them? Because I can just return them."

She pretended to turn away, but Yolanda quickly grabbed the hem of her shirt.

"How about I just take a quick look, and then you can return them?"
