Chapter 458
"Tomorrow, the police will be here to take her away." Remington stepped forward, taking Lizetta's hand in his. Her hand was a bit cold, but his large, warm palms enveloped it, gently rubbing warmth back into her skin.
Lizetta's mind was still on Evelina, asking, "The police?"
Although what Evelina had done was despicable, she hadn't committed any serious crimes.
Why had Remington called the police?
There was a sharp look in Remington's eyes as he said, "The case with Daniel had Evelina's fingerprints."
He had previously sent Cedric to dig into it, but Evelina had dispatched people out of town. It was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
With Evelina's deeds exposed today, Remington had Ray find April.
April, seeing Evelina had lost all her power, flipped sides and spilled everything Evelina had done.
Lizetta felt a chill, remembering Daniel; even though it had been a long time, the thought of him still sent shivers down her spine.
Remington tightened his grip on Lizetta's hand, his voice soft and reassuring.
"Don't be afraid."
It was then Lizetta realized he was still holding her hands. She tried to pull away, when Stella's voice suddenly came from behind. "Remington, my mom will be alright, won't she? I just reunited with her today, and haven't even had a chance to really spend time with her." Remington turned to her, reassuring, "She'll be fine."
Lizetta tried to pull away, but Remington, as if anticipating her move, tightened his grip.
Unable to pull away, Lizetta inadvertently attracted Stella's gaze.
Stella's gaze fell on their intertwined hands, and her lips curved into a shy smile as she looked at Lizetta with a gentle tone.
"Remington and I grew up together. Fiona, and Remi's parents have been very kind to me. The Dashiells were like a second family to me.
Remington told me that you also grew up in the Dashiell family. Even though we're meeting for the first time today, I guess because we both grew up with them, I feel a special connection to you.
Remington and I share the same birthday, and I'm six years older than you. If you don't mind, you can call me 'Sis', and may I call you Liz?"
Stella was somewhat cautious, emanating kindness as if her whole being was trying to reach out.
Her experience was heartbreaking and deserving of sympathy.
She had even risked her life to save Remington, endured so much hardship, and was only just found.
Today, at the hospital, Stella had been reasonable and understanding.
But Lizetta couldn't help feeling something was off.
She didn't know if it was her own issue, being too consumed by the matters of the West family, but she just couldn't warm up to Stella.
She responded with a polite smile, "Ms. West, calling me by my name is fine."
Stella was taken aback for a moment, seeming to not expect Lizetta's aloofness and hurt by her indifference. She reached out her hand again, forcing a smile.
"Liz, are you upset with me because Remington had to rescue me and missed the wedding? I'm sorry, please don't be mad at Remington. It was my fault for getting a high fever out of nowhere. Remington had to take me to the hospital, which delayed the time."
At that moment, a child walked by with his mother.
The child caught a glimpse of Stella's extended hand, screamed, "Ah! Mommy, that's scary, the lady's hand looks so scary!"
Stella's face turned deathly pale, looking flustered toward the child.
Before Lizetta could react, Remington let go of her hands and took Stella's injured hand in his, pulling her behind him.
Remington turned to face the child, his intimidating aura causing the child to bury into his mother's embrace, crying.
