Shattered Illusions: Love, Lies, and Redemption ( Lizetta )

Chapter 383

Lizetta felt drained, both physically and emotionally, and she was in no mood for further conversation.

She just nodded, her voice dry, "I got it, thanks for standing up for me and Joy, ouch!"

Before she could finish, her wrist was gripped tightly by Remington, his strength surprising enough to make her cry out.

She looked up, frowning at Remington, "What the heck? You're hurting me!"

Tears of pain welled up in her eyes, and Remington's expression darkened, though he slightly loosened his grip as he coldly said, "Do you really have to talk to me like that, Lizetta?"

Now Lizetta was irritated, snatching her hand back, "How am I talking? I'm saying thank you, and even that's wrong now? If you don't like the way I speak, go bother someone else, like Evelina or Stella." "Enough! I'm talking about your issue; why drag them into this?"

Remington's handsome face turned gloomy as he interrupted Lizetta. Seeing his barely controlled rage was almost laughable to her.

She could tell he was particularly upset because she mentioned Stella. She used to be scared of making him angry, always becoming meek in response, but now she couldn't care less.

Lizetta gave a mocking laugh, "My issue? I don't see any problem with me, and even if there was, we're getting divorced, so it's none of your business."

Remington, seeing her defiant expression, felt his temper rising. He worried that if they kept arguing, he might lose control and pin her down as punishment, although he knew he couldn't lay a finger on her given her condition.

A frustration burned within him, and nodding, he uttered in a gruff tone, "Fine, I won't interfere!"

The man's tall figure sprang out of the bed, he stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him.

The sound echoed through the quiet house, hitting Lizetta like a physical blow and causing her heart to race, struggling to calm down. Tears involuntarily rolled down her cheeks as she collapsed back onto the bed, feeling weak.

When Cedric entered with the new maid, the living room was thick with the smell of smoke. Remington stood alone by the window, a solitary figure, with a few cigarette butts in the ashtray on a nearby table. "Sir, this is the new maid, Lina. She's trustworthy."

Remington glanced at Lina, and then nodding, instructed, "Take care of her, see if she needs anything or wants something to eat."

Lina hurried upstairs, and shortly after, she came back down quickly.

Remington, still standing there, cast a glance over her. Although he didn't ask, Lina took the initiative to report sensitively, "Sir, the lady said she was hungry and asked for anything to be brought up." Hungry, willing to eat, that was a good sign. Remington waved her off, "Then go make something."

Lina nodded, hesitating before adding, "She seemed like she had been crying; her eyes were red."

After saying that, she hurried into the kitchen.

Remington's brows furrowed more deeply, accidentally snapping the cigarette between his fingers.

Still worried, he went upstairs and opened the bedroom door, only to find Lizetta trying to get out of bed, her legs giving way, about to fall.

Panicked, he rushed forward, catching her just in time.

"Thank you," Lizetta hadn't expected to be so weak, her voice shaky.

"What are you doing out of bed? Besides thank you, can't you say anything else?"

Remington's displeased voice came from above her; Lizetta turned slightly, surprised. She thought he had left, assuming it was Lina who had come in.

With mixed feelings at his return, she opened her mouth to speak.
