Shadows of Immortality

Chapter 3: Selene Dominus-Mortis

The assembled council members were both surprised and uneasy by Orion’s cautious suggestion, which hovered in the air like a sinister mist. Selene’s name alone brought back memories of a violent history that no one dared to forget. The tale of her vengeance had developed into a spooky legend that had been inscribed in the annals of vampire history.

Selene was a figure who evoked both awe and dread because she was the oldest vampire who had lived on earth for more than three millennia. She followed a strict set of guidelines, one of which was a categorical ban on hurting children at any time. But when members of her own Mortis tribe disobeyed this holy rule, they unintentionally set loose a power of unmatched wrath.

Selene visited her clan with the fury of a vengeful deity in an act of retaliation that rippled across the vampire community. When she unleashed her power on her own clan, her once-enchanting violet eyes blazed with an unimaginable fire. Nothing short of a horrific massacre ensued, turning the streets of the vampire kingdom blood red.

The bloodbath’s aftermath took days to clean up, and those who saw the slaughter were haunted by the horrific event’s memory. Even the most fearsome vampires trembled in horror at the mere prospect of coming into contact with Selene due to her unrivalled power and intense fury.

Her rage was so intense that some people dared to think she might have been the first vampire to ever walk the world, an ancient entity whose origins were yet unknown. Whatever the case, Selene was a force to be reckoned with and a vengeful living incarnation, so whatever the truth, that much was certain.

The council’s discussion of Orion’s proposal revealed that addressing Selene was not a simple issue. Requesting her assistance in heading the struggle against the werewolves would provoke the legendary vampire’s unrestrained hatred.

The first to propose a strategy was Eurydice, a councilwoman renowned for her shrewd intelligence and cunning. In the name of the entire council, they would make a proposal to Selene, warning her that if she rejected it, she would face prosecution for the death of the Mortis clan’s entire bloodline. Even Selene would be hesitant to confront the court because doing so would require them to face the combined might of the most potent vampires in existence.

The council, however, was shocked by another aspect of the plan: rumors that Selene was forgoing human blood as food. A vampire’s power came from the lifeblood of people, and giving it up meant losing a lot of strength. The council could not pass up the chance presented by the shocking yet alluring idea that Selene would weaken herself.

The council members reached a decision in the council chamber’s dim corners. Knowing that Selene would command the unwavering loyalty of all vampire clans, they would send her their proposal, offering her a position of leadership in the struggle against the werewolves.

The council members couldn’t help but feel a mixture of fear and hope as the plan came together. Fear for what might happen if they provoke Selene’s fury, and hope that she might agree to it because that would mean they have the most potent vampire on their side.

The council was aware that they were in a precarious situation once the dice had been cast. The approaching conflict was dangerous, and its conclusion was not guaranteed. The council prepared for the storm that would come after as they sent out their proposal. This storm would be headed by a vampire whose name inspired fear, whose strength was unrivalled, and whose wrath had the capacity to change the supernatural world.

Selene’s presence hung like a menacing specter in the vampire underworld, and the mystery surrounding her mythology was as thick as the shadows that shrouded her. Now that she held the power to decide the future of the vampire race, the council room resounded with the echoes of her past actions, serving as a frightening warning to anyone who dared to disobey her.
