Seer

Chapter 25

Jonathan’s

How wonderful, my darling, that you are the master of this new little creature. The animal will be utterly yours, dependent on you, will love you no matter what occurs.”

It is a delight to watch my Guarded interact with the dog. His emotions are unusually benign towards the creature. Generally, when Jonathan encounters animals he speculates about what he can do to them, and often enjoys the thrill of power he experiences while controlling them, sometimes tormenting them. I revel in such times, experiencing the flaring vigor of his blazing soul as he exercises dominion over lesser beings. Surprisingly, he has not yet begun to imagine what he can inflict upon his new little pet. I anticipate it will begin soon, and we will both savor the delights of his mastery.

Jonathan is, of course, sharing his joy with his closest friend Gabe. It is unusual, though, to have the Seer partaking so earnestly. He has previously felt her to be nothing more than the younger sibling of his friend, not a worthy companion in her own right. Furthermore she has been the occasional target of his amusing mischief, whenever the opportunity has presented itself.

But now, she has arrogantly determined that she can influence Jonathan to abstain from activities which she finds distasteful. I am certain that this will not succeed. My beloved is too powerful to allow himself to be altered by whatever machinations she can contrive. He should not condescend to listen to any suggestions she might make.

However, as she has enacted her current ludicrous project in an attempt to change him, he seems to already grow accustomed to her presence. The longer he remains in her company, the more his disdain for her diminishes. Her Guardian whispers to her constantly, helping her find ways to soften Jonathan’s attitude regarding her. I find myself growing strangely resentful towards the girl, as she uses her unique capabilities to target my own shining boy.

I see nothing I can do to stop her, other than my usual exhortations to my beloved to do as he pleases.

However, I have been learning how to intensify my suggestions to my beloved, using the enhanced energy technique that was initially discovered by the Seer and her Guardian. I have been experimenting myself with this concept, occasionally filling my words to Jonathan with more of the energy we use to communicate. I have felt myself changing, growing stronger, feeling more tangible, the more I use this energy. And my beloved boy has started sensing me more strongly. He does not, of course, have any idea of my existence. But he has started to hear certain thoughts and memories which I am suggesting to him. To him, this seems like sudden remembrance, or insight, or inspiration. But it is coming from me. And I revel in my power to influence him ever more strongly.

My dearest, yes, enjoy your new pet, share the delight with your best friend. You don’t need the help of the strange girl, you and your friend can certainly do everything needed to care for the animal.”

I hear the kids and Jonathan’s parents in the backyard, so I just go around through the gate. They are all out there, watching a cute little puppy cavort on the lawn, chasing tennis balls as the kids throw them around. What a scene!

Brad and Stefanie seem to be enjoying themselves as much as the kids. I head over to them. “Hey,” I say, “looks like you picked out a really cute dog.”

Brad grins over at me, as Stef kicks a rolling ball back over to Jonathan. “Yep! We let Jon pick out whatever he wanted, and he found this little puppy. The lady at the pound said we were pretty lucky, they don’t have young puppies like this very often.”

“What kind of dog is it?”

“A labrador/collie mix, I guess. He seems very friendly. The kids have been having a blast with him all afternoon.”

Stefanie chimes in, “I sure hope we can housebreak him quickly.”

Brad laughs. “No problem, babe, he’s obviously really smart. He’s already learning to chase the ball and stuff. I’m sure it won’t take long.”

“Well, kids,” I call over to Gabe and Natalie, “you need to say goodbye to the puppy. It’s time to head back over to your Mom’s place.”

Gabe stands up and comes over, saying good-bye to Jonathan. Natalie, however, surprises me by saying “Awwwww!” That’s different. She never complains about anything. She looks at the dog longingly, then over at me like she’s going to ask to spend more time here. But then she apparently changes her mind, because she goes over to where Jonathan is petting the dog.

She lightly touches his shoulder. “Can I say goodbye to him?” she asks.

He looks surprised, then nods, rubbing his shoulder where she touched him. Natalie picks up the puppy, and holds him in her arms, snuggling him and rubbing her face into his fur. She apparently adores the little thing.

While she’s saying her farewells, I tell Brad and Stefanie, “Ok, we’ll be back on Friday, then on Saturday is Legoland day! I figure we’ll leave pretty early in the morning to get up there by the time they open.”

Gabe grins. “Oh yeah! I had almost forgotten about that!” He calls over to Jonathan, “Hear that Jon? Remember Legoland is next weekend!”

Jonathan nods, somewhat distractedly, still watching Natalie cuddling his puppy. After another smooch to the dog’s head, she passes him back over to Jonathan, gently depositing the puppy back into his arms.

“Thank you, Jonathan, for letting me play with your new dog,” she quietly says.

He holds the dog the same way she had been. “Sure,” he replies.

“Okay kids, let’s go,” I say. “See you guys next weekend.”

The kids follow along after me, Natalie still seeming strangely reluctant. She walks slowly, looking back over her shoulder as we leave the back yard. What’s gotten into her? I guess it’s the dog - who knew she’d love it so much?
