Chapter 689
Colin sneered and ignored Xavier's cries. He stepped back into the dressing room and changed his outfit to become Hercules. His tall and muscular figure totally matched the character of Hercules.
"Was I being unfair? Why would I tease you? But you should really thank yourself for coming up with such an idea for the party. Otherwise, you wouldn't have had the chance to post such a selfie. Ever heard of reaping what you sow? It's the perfect description for your photo."
Xavier was so angry that he stomped his feet, unable to retort against Colin. All he could do was shout, "You're a bully!"
However, Colin couldn't be bothered with him. He just grabbed my hand and turned to talk away, leaving the still-ranting Xavier behind.
After his plan to embarrass Colin failed and after tarnishing his own image, Xavier could only run back to the entrance to play the welcoming turkey again while babbling incoherently.
All guests had arrived early to the party. Professor King delivered the opening speech as the host at the appointed time.
Xavier had somehow changed into a suit. He looked handsome with his carefully styled hair, like the young man he should be. He was smiling perfectly, looking humble and sincere.
He was presenting himself as the bright and sunny son of a wealthy family, devoid of any of the mischief from his earlier antics.
"I didn't expect this brat to be so good at putting on acts," I whispered to Colin, nudging him with my elbow.
He clicked his tongue disapprovingly and said, "Everybody can see through it. He's just putting on an act. Everyone knows who's who in this circle.
"Look at those well-dressed people. Every one of them has their own intentions. These birthday parties, banquets, and all are just tools they use to solidify their position and expand their network." I nodded in agreement, understanding his point.
After Professor King finished his
opening speech, Xavier gave a proper but unremarkable speech. It was the usual words of gratitude that everyone was familiar with. It was nothing new.
Then, it was time for the opening dance.
As the birthday boy, Xavier was supposed to lead the opening dance. However, he had been alone the whole time. So, he had to choose a partner from among the female guests present.
Suddenly, I had an uneasy feeling.
Xavier had been behaving strangely today. I was afraid that he would
choose me as his dance partner et
כן.
There was usually a profound implication to being chosen as a dance partner by the central figure of such an event.
Since I was already dating Colin, I didn't want anyone to misunderstand or become suspicious of me.
Sure enough, as Xavier scanned through the floor from the stage, his eyes lingered on me for a full five seconds without moving away.
Everyone on the floor followed his gaze to look at me. At that moment, I felt a chill down my spine, and feelings of disgust surged in my heart.
I saw several familiar faces looking at me-Matthew's parents, Helen's mother, and the lady who threatened me the other day.
Whether it was due to their status or age, they were all dressed in designer clothes and didn't participate in the costume segment. They were all standing near the side of the hall. Every one of them stared at me with unfriendly eyes, making me extremely uncomfortable.
The memories of the past were resurfacing again.
Perhaps Xavier noticed the sudden change in my mood, so he hesitated for a moment. The professor also gave him a warning glance.
He touched his nose and continued to look around the floor, eventually choosing a young woman in a pale pink princess dress. She had short hair that r made her look playful, and she had a sweet smile. Furthermore, she looked really young. She was a perfect match for Xavier
