Chapter 37 -
Dove immediately dialed Asher's number after she left the hotel, claiming that she had something important to discuss with him and asked him where he was.
Asher immediately reported his location when he heard that it was something important. Noelle could not help but ask after watching Asher put his phone away. "Who is it?" "Dove."
"I knew she wouldn't give up that easily." Noelle had originally planned to go for a stroll alongside Asher. She had not expected Dove to interrupt them. It would be a lie to say that she
was not angry.
Noelle, however, was a rational woman. She knew that she and Dove would compete for Asher sooner or later. There was no way around it unless she voluntarily gave him up, and that was simply not possible.
A red BMW soon pulled up before them, and a gorgeously-dressed Dove alighted from the vehicle. When Noelle and Dove's eyes met, an invisible static could be felt in the air.
"I went to visit you in the hotel only to find out that you've already checked out. Where will you
be living in the future? You're free to stay with us at the Yaeger residence." Dove immediately took the initiative to pick a fight the moment they met.
Noelle, of course, knew that those words were meant for her ears, and in an effort to not be outdone, she retorted, "There's no need for you to worry about where he'll be living. He'll be home."
The riposte obviously struck her hard.
Dove gave her a derisive smile. "Asher's home is in the Capital City. Are you saying he's returning to Alexandrius?"
The two women went back and forth. One could likely smell the proverbial scent of gunfire in the air. Asher, concerned that the women would start fighting in the streets, hurriedly changed the subject. "Don't you have important news, Ms. Yaeger?"
Dove did not really have anything of great import to note. However, Asher would not have revealed his location to her had she not claimed so.
She instead nodded in affirmation. "Yes. It's of great importance, but only you can know of this. This isn't a good time for us to talk but that's alright. We can speak more once Ms. Steward takes her leave.
Noelle squeezed out a smile. "I'll have to disappoint you. Asher wants to go shopping. We'll be getting mac and cheese for lunch, and we're going home right after."
Asher grimaced. He did not recall saying any of that?
Women could tell lies without breaking a sweat.
She flashed Dove a victorious look as she finished. It would be quite embarrassing if Dove insisted on staying.
Dove unexpectedly broke into a smile. "I'm in no hurry. I was just thinking about getting some new clothes. Asher could also help me with that. Let's go together."
Noelle felt frustrated. She had never expected Dove to be quite so thick-skinned, but she was not about to lose to the Yaeger woman. "Let's be on our way, then. You must look good in whatever you wear with such a good figure."
"It's quite unfortunate that I'm still lacking when compared to you, Ms. Steward," Dove said with a smile.
Asher was currently the most miserable person.
What the hell are they talking about? Are they comparing their figures?
Asher was not one for shopping, especially when stuck between two women. He would rather turn around and leave if he could.
He, however, did not have the nerve to do it. Noelle and Dove were out for blood. If he were to take his leave, they would start duking it out.
Asher was struggling with every step. It was as if he was in the midst of immense danger. There were five floors in the shopping mall and the second floor was where the women's section was located. Noelle and Dove went up the escalator shoulder-to-shoulder while Asher lagged behind.
"Come in and have a look, Miss. This store carries the trendiest style this year." A salesperson greeted them with a smile at the entrance to a boutique.
Noelle and Dove shared a look as the latter walked in first.
"What do you think of this dress, Asher? Do you think it'll suit me?" Dove pointed toward a dress and asked.
Asher gave it a glance. His first impression of it was that it was too revealing. The neckline was quite low...
Asher did not dare to outright state his opinion. Staying silent in these sorts of situations was a wise move.
When Noelle saw how provocative the dress looked, she was angered by how Dove made it blatantly clear that she was out to seduce Asher.
Seeing Asher wrinkling his brows and keeping silent, Dove continued on, "It seems that this one doesn't really suit me. What about this one? And that one? The color and style is pretty good." Asher's gaze followed where Dove was pointing and right there was an even more sexy and provocative dress. It was nearly transparent from the chest up and the skirt was incredibly short with a drawstring on the bottom right. She would look stunning if she wore it.
Asher was even more afraid to speak.
Noelle was pissed. She did not think that Dove would make such a big sacrifice to attract Asher's gaze. Dove was by no means a woman who would be so scantily clad. On the contrary, they were both rather conservative.
"The dress is indeed beautiful. I was wondering if Ms. Yaeger would dare put it on," Noelle said with a wry smile. She did not believe Dove would actually wear it.
"Oh, really? You also think it's beautiful? I'll have to try it on then." Dove giggled and spoke to the salesperson. "Could you get that dress down for me?"
"..." Noelle was dumbfounded
The salesperson took it down and said with a smile, "Miss, the fitting room is this way. Please come with me."
Noelle could not help but roll her eyes. She was exasperated. Dove was taking things too far. She turned around just in time to see Asher sneaking glances at Dove's back, and she fumed, "Your eyes shall be blessed today. Can't wait now, can you?"
It would be a lie for Asher to say he was not the least bit interested in seeing Dove in the dress as a virile man.
This was, however, a unique situation where he had no choice but to lie through his teeth. "You're overthinking this. Clothes are simply worldly possessions. It doesn't matter what one wears. It's still the same."
"A worldly possession?" Noelle rolled her eyes. "Hmph, that's true. You definitely want to see her wearing nothing at all."
Asher swore that he did not mean it that way.
It did not take long when the door to the fitting room opened. Asher had tried to keep himself
from taking a look but his eyes seemed to have found a life of their own and looked over.
Dove had put on the dress and was looking completely different from the way she was before with her delicate features, a face tinted pink and the tender shyness in her eyes.
She wore a priceless necklace around her slender neck.
Asher could not help but shift his gaze downward, where he could clearly see the rounds of her shoulders and her sensuous collarbone.
Asher felt his throat dry at the sight.
Dove noticed Asher's attention on her. Despite feeling rather embarrassed, she could say she had achieved what she had sought out to do, and that was catching his attention. It was worth it even if she had to wear such revealing clothes. After all, this was for his eyes only.
"What do you think, Asher?" Dove twirled around a few times. The skirt was quite short. The pair
of porcelain pale legs were nearly exposed in its entirety as it happened.
Just as Asher was about to speak, Noelle stomped on his foot as she grinned up at him. "Ms. Yaeger is asking you a question. What do you think?"
His foot was hurting but his head hurt worse.
What was he supposed to say? Noelle would never let him off the hook if he admitted that she looked good. If he were to say otherwise, it would go against his conscience.
Asher anxiously turned to the salesperson. "What do you think? You must be better at this than I am."
The salesperson was no idiot. She was now well-aware that the two women in front of them were attracted to Asher. She nodded without prying into their business. "I think it looks beautiful. I've never seen any other woman pull this dress off quite so well. The two of you are born to look like dolls. Anything would look good on the two of you. Would you also like to pick something out, Miss?" She gave Noelle a look.
Noelle was in a pleasant mood until Dove showed up. She no longer wanted to shop for clothing.
She did not want to lose to Dove, but there was no way she was going to put on such provocative outfits.
"There's no need," Noelle answered coldly.
"Please have this dress wrapped up for me." Dove was proudly glancing at Noelle as she spoke to the salesperson.
Noelle snorted. "Why don't you just keep wearing it since it looks so good on you, Ms. Yaeger? It'll be quite troublesome to have it packed, won't it?"
Dove, in truth, also had to muster up quite a bit of courage to convince herself to put on the dress. She would not have worn it if there were any other men around.
"There's no need for you to worry about that. I'll wear it whenever it comes time to do so." With that, Dove left for the fitting room.
"Are you done with your ogling?!" Noelle was about to blow her top off.
Asher was quick to retract his gaze. "Y-yes..."
The look on Noelle's face grew glacial in that instant. She glared at him and stormed out in a
huff.
Noelle stomped her feet in anger when she left the clothing store. This was going too far. One was bold enough to put it on, and the other had the gall to stare. How shameless. "You're a goddamn sleazebag, Asher. Enjoyed the sight, did you? Then, keep enjoying it. I'm not accompanying you anymore." Noelle went downstairs in a huff, pouting all the way.
