Secret Scion

Chapter 158 -

Layla could no longer stay silent. She felt that since Asher had done something wrong, it was only natural for him to be punished. However, Asher was being nothing short of barbaric and was yelling at Huxley. That was not something a man should do.

As such, she said angrily, "Asher, stop making excuses just because you're drunk! Shouldn't you be punished for doing something wrong?! You're no longer a child! If you've done something wrong, no one will protect you! Huxley is doing this because you're family to him, but you're targeting him intentionally. From where I stand, you're the one that's suffering the consequences of your own actions!"

"Shut up! If it wasn't because of you, would I have ended up like this?! It's obvious that you and Huxley are together in this! Both of you worked together to frame me! Just what did he promise you?!" Asher was angry too. Why was both of them drugged after drinking the wine, but he was completely fine?

"Worked together?!" Layla stood up angrily. "Asher, I never thought that you're someone that's so despicable! I'm ashamed to be your cousin!"

Inside the room.

Rose raised her glass and took a sip. When she heard what Layla said, the impatience on her face was getting very apparent. She put the glass down on the table and then walked out. She then said, "Oh, Asher. You're just trying to humiliate yourself. They won't believe you no matter what you say. Let's go. Stop humiliating yourself."

With that, Rose wanted to push Asher out.

When Huxley and Layla saw Rose come out of the room, both of them glanced at each other with shock on their faces. They never would have thought that Rose would share a drink with Asher.

"You're with her all along, Asher? No wonder you managed to deal with the Gentlemen so easily and Rose did nothing about it! You're already together!" Layla said.

"Ms. Knight, I suggest that you hold your tongue. If not, you might regret it even more in the future," Rose said.

"Me? Regret? Why would I? His true character has already been exposed! I wish that he would leave my sight and never reappear again!" Layla said indignantly.

Rose did not know how to continue the conversation when she heard what Layla said. She simply dragged Asher out of the tavern.

The light was getting dimmer outside. Asher could not see clearly where he was going, and he almost fell right into the river. Rose sighed and helped Asher up.

"Where are you staying? I'll send you back." Rose's voice was ice cold. She had never dreamed

that there would be a day where she would be supporting him like this. While they were enemies, they looked more like friends now.

"The Crawfords have gotten rid of me. Where else can I stay?" Asher let out a laugh.

At this time, Asher suddenly tripped and fell to the ground.

Rose originally wanted to help Asher up, but she simply did not have the strength. Not only was she unable to pull Asher up, she herself fell right on top of Asher. Her pair of fleshy, red lips pressed on Asher's...

Rose's eyes opened wide. She only hurriedly got off Asher after being stunned for three seconds. She kept on wiping her lips, as if she wanted to remove Asher's scent.

"Bastard!" Rose gave Asher's thigh a kick. That was her first kiss! It was gone just like that?

She put quite a lot of strength into it, but Asher was already numb. He did not feel anything at all.

Seeing that Asher was lying on the ground without any reaction, Rose felt so angry that she wished she could just push him into the river to become fish food. She turned around and walked away. However, it did not take her long before she stopped. She turned around and gave Asher a glance, and then she scratched her head before deciding to turn around to help Asher up again.

She spent all her strength to send Asher to a hotel nearby, dumped him onto the bed and left. Once she reached home, Rose immediately got into the shower and began to repeatedly clean herself. She even almost hurt her lips.

Looking at her inflamed lips, Rose felt so frustrated. Two years ago, she did not even let Asher touch her when he pursued her. Two years later, he stole her first kiss despite being competitors. "Asher, you bastard! I'm going to skin you alive eventually!"

Rose got out of her bathroom huffily and got changed. At this time, Xavier's voice came from outside her door. "Rose, are you asleep? I have something I want to talk about."

Rose quickly said no and opened the door, inviting Xavier to sit on the sofa in her room. She then poured a glass of water for him and then asked, "What is it, Grandpa?"

Xavier said with a smile, "I heard that Asher has been exiled by Solomon? Seems like the heir has been changed to Huxley? You planned all this, right? You did very well. You didn't disappoint me."

Rose felt that despite her not being the one who came out with the plan to drug Layla, she did have a hand in all of this. That was why she was feeling apologetic toward Asher.

"Now that Asher has lost all support from his family and friends, now is the time to get rid of him once and for all. What happened two years ago was a reminder to us. That's why I'm going to have Rodrick do it in secret. What do you think?" Xavier asked.

Getting rid of Asher meant murdering him.

When Rose heard that, she momentarily frowned. There was an instance when she felt nervous. After hesitating for a few seconds, she then said, "Grandpa, now that Asher has already been ruined. There's no need to fear him anymore. Maybe we can let him live."

Xavier was taken aback by that. He looked at Rose's unnatural reaction and then said, "It's normal for someone to rise and fall in one's life. While Asher is in trouble right now, no one can guarantee that he won't rise back up, correct? We didn't kill him off two years ago, and that got us into so much trouble. That's the lesson that we've learned, Rose. Remember, if you want to succeed, you must be brutal."

Rose felt that Asher was already unfortunate enough. The Schmidts should not do anything cruel to him at this time.

"Rose... Are you still thinking of Asher?" Xavier could not help but ask when he saw that Rose's expression was one of longing.

Rose immediately said, "Grandpa, I've never liked him. Why would I be thinking of him?" "Then, why don't you agree to it?"

Rose then said, "While Asher did indeed get exiled, he still shares the same blood with the Crawfords. It's something that can never be changed. If Asher were murdered, Solomon would still exact revenge for him. The Crawfords didn't fight for fame or wealth in the past. If not, Alexandrius would have more than three first-grade households. Grandpa, it's not that I don't want to be brutal, it's just that it's not advantageous to us at all." "But leaving Asher alive is still a risk," Xavier said with a sigh. "Maybe he can never recover from this?" Rose said.

"If that's true, then that's for the best," Xavier said after giving it a thought. "Since you don't agree, we can delay this for now. I heard that Sebastian Macquoid is coming back soon. When the time comes, go to the Macquoids. No matter what happens, we still have to show our respect." Xavier then turned and left after he was done.

The next day, Asher noticed that he was sleeping in a hotel room when he woke up. He only remembered that Rose was also at Riverside Tavern. Meanwhile, he did not remember Huxley and Layla being there at all.

As his headache was quite intense, he simply went back to bed.

When Noelle got back to Rollinsford, she missed Asher every single moment. It was a difficult time to be in.

Several days ago, she received Layla's call saying that Asher was in danger. After that, there was no news at all. Noelle was confident in Asher, so she did not call to ask him about it. She had some free time on hand today, and so Noelle wanted to give Layla a call and ask her about it. It rang for a long time before Layla finally picked up.

"Are you busy? Maybe I can call you later after work?" Noelle said.

"It's fine," Layla said. "I was going to call you anyway."

When Noelle heard what happened, her first reaction was that Asher had gotten into trouble again. She quickly asked, "Did Asher get into trouble again?"

Layla then told her in a straightforward fashion, "He has already been exiled from the Crawfords. Noelle, you're a nice girl. I don't want to hide this from you. Asher is capable of things you can never imagine and is not worthy of your love. My advice to you is for you two to part ways as soon as possible."

When Noelle heard that, she could hear her heart thumping. To think that Layla would say something like that... It seemed like the trouble Asher was in was not something minor. "What happened to him?" Noelle asked anxiously.
