Chapter 155 -
Huxley's mother said with a frown, "I never said that it's you, Asher."
Solomon then asked, "Why were you two drinking in the middle of the night?"
Asher then said, "Grandpa, Huxley and I had been sharing the drink. Layla had only drunk one glass of wine."
"Where's Huxley? Get him here right now," Solomon commanded.
Amber then gave Asher a complicated look and then whispered, "Grandpa, it seems that he's been drugged too..."
"What?!" Both Asher and Solomon cried out in unison. After a few moments of silence, the latter then said, "Liam, bring him here. We'll know what happened when he's here."
When he said that, Solomon gave Asher an angry glare.
Everyone that was present knew that Asher was going to take the blame. Huxley's mother frowned as a plot hatched in her mind, and she left together with Liam.
Huxley was quite smart as well. Once he had returned to his room, he then quickly went into the bathroom and took a cold shower. It was already in the middle of Autumn, and the temperature had fallen by seven or eight degrees at night. Even though it was extremely cold, it made his case much more believable.
It was not long until Liam's voice came from outside the door, "Huxley, are you alright?"
"Dad, I'm feeling very ill. Are my cousins alright?" Huxley said in discomfort.
Liam sighed and said, "Let's not talk about that right now! Come out. Your grandpa wants to see you."
When Huxley got out of the bathroom fully clothed, his hair was still wet.
Liam then asked, "Are you alright, Huxley?"
"I was feeling hot all over just now. I feel much better now after taking a cold shower. Dad, Grandpa is looking for me, right? Let's go," Huxley said as he pulled his clothes closer.
"Before we go, let's give the Knights a call," Huxley's mother said as she took out her mobile. Liam quickly said, "Stop! We cannot let the Knights know about this."
"Are you stupid, Liam? This is such a good chance! Asher was the one that spiked the drink! Don't tell me you don't know what he wanted to do to Layla by drugging it? I want the Knights to join in and make things go out of control. I want to see how Solomon is going to protect that favorite grandson of his." And with that, she dialed Sophia's number.
Once the call got through, she said, "Sophia? Something happened to Layla. You better come over now."
Asher's room.
"Grandpa, you're looking for me?" Huxley went in with his clothes damp. Asher could not help but ask, "Huxley, what happened? Your clothes are all wet."
Huxley then said, "After I left when we were done drinking, something felt off. It felt as if my body was on fire. I feel much better now after taking a cold shower. We all drank the wine, are you alright?"
Asher nodded and said, "I'm fine."
Huxley's mother then snorted and said, "Of course, you're fine."
"What do you mean by that?" Asher said unhappily.
She did not respond to Asher and simply said to Solomon, "Dad, everything's clear now. The three of them have been drinking, and both Layla and Huxley are feeling unwell. Only Asher's feeling fine. Doesn't that prove that Asher has drugged the drink?"
Only then did Asher realize that something was wrong. The message that Rose sent suddenly flashed in his mind. Even though he did not want to believe that this was true, the fact was that it was happening right in front of him. He did nothing of the sort, and Layla would never do the same. That left Huxley.
When the thought crossed his mind, Asher cried out in anger, "Huxley! Did you drug the wine?!" Asher believed in Huxley, but in the end, Huxley tricked him instead. How could he not be angered?
"I don't know what you're talking about. How could I drug the wine?! Am I that kind of a person? Not to mention that the wine belonged to you, so you're the most suspicious one!" Huxley said.
"That's right. Stop shifting the blame!" Huxley's mother snorted coldly.
Huxley continued, "Grandpa, if I was the one that drugged the wine, I wouldn't have drunk the wine. Not to mention that I didn't know that she would be here. I only found out she was here when I saw them discussing things. That's why I don't have a motive in doing this. I also didn't have the chance to spike the drinks."
Luke then walked over to Asher and almost gave him a slap as he gritted his teeth. He then yelled, “Tell us the truth! Did you drug the drink?!"
"Dad, do I look like the kind of man that would do that?" Asher asked him back.
When Luke heard what he said, his expression became even more complicated. He knew what his son was like. He knew better than anyone else just what kind of man Asher was, and so, he was sure that Asher would never do something like that.
However, Huxley's mother simply said with an icy leer, "Then, just what kind of person do you think would do this?"
Asher then glanced at Huxley subconsciously and said, "Whoever that did this knows full well what kind of person he is."
"You still want to pin the blame on Huxley now that it has come to this? Do you still think a person like you is worthy of becoming the Crawfords' patriarch?!" she said irately.
Liam could not help but stare at her and say, "Can't you just be quiet for a minute?"
However, she simply said in a judgmental tone, "If he's bold enough to do something like this, of course I can talk about it."
Suddenly, the ringing of a phone interrupted the discussion. It was Solomon's phone. He took it out and saw that it was Layla's grandfather. He frowned and asked, "Who informed the Knights?" No one responded.
In the end, Huxley's mother muttered, "Dad, it was me. We can't hide something like this from the Knights."
Solomon was so furious that he gritted his teeth. After a moment of hesitation, he then picked
up the call and said with a smile, "I was just going to give you a call."
"How's Layla?" Mr. Knight asked him directly.
"We got her just in time, so nothing serious happened. Don't worry, I'll send Layla back
tomorrow morning," Solomon said with a smile.
"There's no need for that. We're almost there." With that, he hung up the call.
Marguerite's room.
The heat within Layla was getting unbearable. Marguerite had no choice but to drag her into the bathroom. She did not even undress Layla and immediately got her into a cold shower. After about ten minutes, the effect of the drugs was slowly wearing off, and Layla was slowly returning to her senses.
"Aunt, I'm cold," Layla said as she shivered. Marguerite then found something for her and asked her to put it on.
"Layla, your grandpa said you should know who drugged you. Do you know who did this?" Marguerite asked cautiously. All the evidence was pointing at Asher, and Marguerite was worried that Asher really did do it. If that was true, how were the two households ever going to keep in touch with each other again?
After some hesitation, Layla then said, "Let's go look for them for now."
With that, Layla then left the room. Asher was the one that took out the wine. Huxley obviously had no time to do anything to it. There was no one else but Asher.
However, if this was not solved amicably, it would affect the relationship between the Crawfords and the Knights. Layla had no idea what she should do.
Just as Layla entered the courtyard, the Knights made their way there just in time. "Grandpa, why
are you here?" Layla asked, dumbfounded. Could it be that the Knights had already discovered what happened?
"Layla, are you alright?" Her grandfather asked.
Layla nodded.
Mr. Knight then said, "It's good that you're safe. Leave the rest to me!" With that, he marched toward Asher's room in fury.
"What happened, Layla? Why are they saying that Asher drugged you?" Sophia whispered to Layla as they stayed at the back of the line.
Layla then asked awkwardly, "Mom, is this going to affect the two families' relationship?"
"Of course it will. Asher... How could he do something like this?!" Sophia was also quite furious.
When Mr. Knight entered the room, his expression was as cold as winter's breath. All the Crawfords dreaded him and opened a path for him.
"Solomon, you have to give me an explanation!" Mr. Knight sat down in the chair as he glared with wide eyes.
"Prepare some tea for my old friend."
Regardless of who was the one that drugged Layla, Solomon could not shift the blame as this matter happened in his household. He said with a smile, "Don't get so angry just yet. We're still investigating what happened. Once we find the person that drugged her, we'll deal with him appropriately."
Huxley's mother then said, "The only ones that were drinking were Asher, Layla and Huxley. However, only Huxley and Layla have been drugged and Asher is completely fine. You should ask Asher what happened and whether he drugged the wine."
She was obviously insinuating that Asher was the one that drugged the drink. If the one that sold the wine drugged the wine, why was Asher completely fine?
Marguerite could naturally identify what she was trying to say, and she quickly said, "Asher
would never do something like this. I'm willing to bet my life on it!"
"Asher would never do something like this? So, does that mean Huxley's the one who did this?
What a joke," Huxley's mother said with a sneer.
Mr. Knight suddenly said, "Enough. I'll only listen to Solomon. Whoever he says is the culprit, is the culprit."
