Secret Scion

Chapter 111 -

Asher was full of smiles as he continued, "It's such a shame that you've never been a police

officer. However, you should have given it some more thought. If we don't have any evidence, we wouldn't dare come to your territory, right? That day, Garrett had drunk a little too much in a restaurant in Rollinsford. He forced himself on Mikaela because he was drunk. Coincidentally, the daughter of the restaurant's owner is my friend. After what happened, she sent the security footage to me. The footage is now in my phone. Originally, I wanted to save some dignity for your sake. However, since you plan to cast everything aside, I have no need to hide this footage anymore. It's said that even kings have to subject themselves to the laws. The Schmidts won't be an exception, right? Griffin, call the police. Once they're here, I'll publicize the footage." "Sure thing, Boss." Griffin nodded and grabbed his phone.

"Wait!" Rose quickly stopped Griffin and then shot Xavier a look, "Grandpa, it's already getting quite late. We should postpone Garrett and Maggie's engagement to another day."

Xavier then knew that everything that Asher said was real. Once the footage was made public, the marriage would be the least of everyone's concerns. Garrett would have to bear legal responsibilities.

Asher said with a cold smile, "What? Are you afraid? If you are, just tell me. I'm pretty reasonable, you know? Everything's up for discussion. Hehe!"

Xavier's face was tomato-red. He had never dreamt that one day, he would be forced by a mere brat like Asher to such an extent.

When Rose noticed Xavier not uttering a word, she interjected, "Asher, there's no need for you to be so uncompromising, right?"

Uncompromising?

You call this uncompromising?

Asher snorted coldly before saying to Spencer, "I think you've learnt about everything now. Do you still want Maggie to marry Garrett?"

"We're leaving!" Spencer slammed a hand on the table and left.

"Spencer, please..." Xavier still wanted to say something, but Spencer left without any hesitation. After Spencer left, everyone from the Lane family followed suit. Before she left, Maggie said, "Garrett, I never thought that you're that kind of a person. It's over between us, so don't contact me ever again!"

After the Lanes had left, the guests that came also tactfully left.

In just a short while, the lively atmosphere had instantly turned cold.

"Asher, letting you live two years ago is the worst mistake I have ever made in my life!" Xavier said with a pale face as he was being overwhelmed by a mix of emotions within him. Originally, today was going to be a joyous affair. However, he did not expect that Asher would suddenly appear. Not only did he ruin the engagement banquet, but he also trampled the Schmidt's and Garrett's reputation.

"Xavier, stop making it sound like you're being merciful. I managed to survive because I'm resourceful enough to not die in your hands, not because you let me live! However, remember that all debts will be collected in full! Let's go, Fatty!" With that, Asher also turned around and left.

Xavier could only glare in anger, wishing that he could have Rodrick kill Asher right then and there.

"Don't be so angry, Grandpa. You should take care of yourself. I'll go and look for Asher and retrieve the footage," Rose said.

Xavier then said, "Have Rodrick go with you. You must retrieve the footage no matter what!" "I'll go too," Garrett said.

Xavier immediately slapped him and said, "You bastard! From now on, just stay at home!" With that, he returned back to his room full of rage.

Behind a few trees that were located a short distance away, a young man in a wheelchair mumbled under his breath with mixed feelings, "Why did all the sons of the Schmidts fail before him?"

The man that said that was the eldest among the Schmidts' scions, Sam Schmidt.

On a quiet path at the foot of the mountain.

"Did you see Xavier's face just now, Boss? That feels so damn good! To think that he'd suffer from humiliation as well! Haha!" Griffin laughed out loud before he lowered his voice. "By the way, Boss, don't forget to send me a copy of the footage so that I can enjoy it too."

Asher shot Mikaela a glance from the corner of his eye. She did not seem to have heard what Griffin said.

"Asher, leave the footage behind and I'll let you leave in one piece."

At this time, Rose's voice suddenly rang from behind. Asher turned around and noticed her and Rodrick. It seemed that they had caught up with them.

"You want to kill me in broad daylight?" Asher smiled coldly.

Rose replied in a similarly frigid tone, "So what if I kill you? You were too uncompromising." "Me? Uncompromising?" Asher's eyes instantly turned red, his emotions starting to run rampant. "When Sam challenged me back then, we signed an indemnity form. He wasn't as good as me. The fact that I didn't kill him showed that I had already shown him mercy. If he can't accept his loss, then he shouldn't have challenged me! However, the Schmidts decided to hunt me down since then! If it wasn't because of my luck, I'd be reduced to a rotting corpse in the wilds! Now you tell me, who's the uncompromising one? I've hidden in Rollinsford for two years after that, but that wasn't enough for the Schmidts, was it? First, Xavier sent Garrett after me, and then he sent you. Who's the one being uncompromising? After you left Rollinsford, Xavier then sent Rodrick to assassinate me! If it wasn't because of the mystery man, I wouldn't have survived. Rose, tell me. Who's the one being uncompromising? I'm a human too! I have a limit to my patience!"

For the past two years, Asher had rarely been so angry. He had never shown this terrifying, angry side of his that made his eyes go extremely red. Even Rose was somewhat afraid of him. She could feel the chills traveling down her back.

Only then did Rose know why Xavier did not ask Rodrick to return to the Capital City with her and why he was injured after that. That was the reason why he had asked her if there was an elite guarding Asher.

Rose had never expected that Xavier would have sent Rodrick to assassinate Asher. Regardless of Xavier's identity as the patriarch of the Schmidts, he should not have done that out of seniority alone as it was beyond his station.

Rose did not know why, but when she saw Asher's red eyes, she felt a spark of pity for him other than fear. The Schmidts had gone overboard for the past two years.

Even though Asher was the one that laid the trap for Sam so that Sam would challenge him, since they had both signed the indemnity form, no one could blame Asher for the injuries that Sam had suffered.

"I didn't know that Grandpa had ordered Rodrick to assassinate you," Rose said.

"So what? Even if you did, would you oppose Xavier's decision just because of me?" Rose remained silent.

Asher then continued, "Rose, I don't owe your family anything! Even if what happened to Sam was connected to me, I've paid the price for it already. However, Xavier kept on pushing my buttons and tried time and again to kill me. I'm not a toy that you can do whatever you want to me! I have my own bottom line too. When I can no longer endure it, I can only choose to

retaliate. Tell Xavier that I will play this game with him until the very end!"

With that, Asher walked away briskly, not bothering to even look at her.

Even when Asher was out of sight, Rose did not say anything about the footage.

"Lady Rose, I cannot refuse Master Xavier's direct order. It's unfortunate that I'm not good

enough and cannot complete the mission he gave to me," Rodrick said.

"Rodrick, I'm not placing the blame on you. I feel that Grandpa made the wrong decision when it came to dealing with Asher. Can I ask you for help?"

Rodrick quickly said, "There's no need for you to be so courteous. Please, tell me."

Rose explained, "Grandpa told me to retrieve the footage from Asher. However, he's furious right

now, so I simply can't ask him about it. When we get back, just tell Grandpa that we failed to catch up with them. I hope that you can keep this a secret."

Rodrick frowned and hesitated for a few second. Then, he nodded and replied, "I understand. Don't worry about it, my lady."

"Thank you."

Rodrick didn't understand why Rose would show mercy toward Asher. If he were to attack, Asher and Griffin would not be his match even if they were to fight him at the same time.

"Boss, I didn't realize that you've experienced so much over the past two years. I'm so ashamed since I didn't help you at all," Griffin lamented as he got into the car. Having heard Asher's past experiences, no matter how single-minded he was, he could not help the tears that started welling in his eyes.

Asher merely responded with a smile. "How can I grow without experiencing some challenges? My days in the Capital City were too smooth. Experiencing some hardship is good for me and not necessarily a bad thing. You can stop the car at the front."

"Boss, let me send you back. I have nothing to do anyway."

"There's no need for that," Asher said as he glanced at the rear mirror. The black Toyota was still tailing them.

After he stepped out of the car, he then led Mikaela into a nearby shopping mall. If his guess was correct, Griffin's car was being tailed by the Schmidts. It was obvious that they wanted to find out where Mikaela was staying.

After they had lost them, only then did Asher flag down a cab to send Mikaela back.
