Secret Lure of a Cat Demon

Chapter Surprises

What was wrong with that woman? This was my investigation. I lost people in the fight against Danni. I needed to get this closed with my own eyes watching. If it wasn’t for my reckless actions certain people would be alive. If I didn’t tell them to infiltrate Danni, they would be alive. I don’t really how I needed up in the woods. I ended up at a clearing and punched a few trees. I stared at the sky for a while. It was tinted pink. I sighed; today was going to be a bad day.

I looked down at the trees and I remember what Katsi had said. Ripping up trees. It seemed like a child game to show some strength, and it was. I was challenge by a lot of people when I was younger. They wanted to see their prince and how strong he was. Of course when I was young, I was thin and weak. I didn’t have much strength in anything. I got laughed at quite a lot when I was younger. Not many took in the fact that I was a small boy. I walked up to a substantial tree and touched it. My fingers touched a few graving marks.

Here I had spent hours trying to pull the tree out the ground. I wanted people to see how strong I really was. When my uncle announced I was to take his place as the lord people stop challenging me, they stopped laughing and respected me.

I suddenly gripped the tree, did I want to try? Did I think it would help my anger, I didn’t know. I wanted it to. All of a sudden my energy just let go and I pulled at the tree. To my surprise the tree was lifted from the ground and I chucked it. I heard a gasp and I stopped. The triumphant feeling of ripping up a tree didn’t mean much to me, if there was someone watching me then I could have the potential of getting told off by my mother. Sure, I was a full grown man but these grounds were still hers and she had banned the tree ripping.

I listened to the surrounding area trying to find where the gasp might have come from. I didn’t hear anything and so I just walked slowly around the edge of the clearing. I knew if I did this than the person watching me would have to back away and so make a mistake.

There was nothing until I heard a shuffle. At first I thought it was an animal. The leaves were rustled a little bit but then there was a snap of a branch. I automatically pounced in that direction. A yelp sounded as the culprit crashed backwards to the ground with me on top. With my hands on their wrists I pushed myself up and I looked down. A set of green orbs looked up at me.

“Katsi?” I questioning tilting my head slightly. She nodded and smiled. “What are you doing out here?” I asked her. “You are meant to be at the trial.” I told her.

“That is why I am here; I talked to your mother. She said you can go into the trial. You are allowed to be in the audience and watch. You are also allowed to give your account of your investigation and the time since Danni has been here but you aren’t allowed to make it personal to you and you aren’t allowed to change it any way other you mother said she would throw you out of the room.” I started at her.

“My mother said that?” I asked a little confused.

“Yeah, I told you I was the boss around here now,” she said winking at me. I smirked at her and she smiled up at me. Everything just seemed to slow down then. I couldn’t feel the wind or hear the birds in the trees. All of my wolf senses were interrupted and everything seemed just a blur but her.

When it hit me internally that I was able to go into the trial I randomly said “Are you serious?” Katsi just looked at me. “The trial,” I stated. I was trying to contain the emotion but it seemed nearly impossible. When she nodded I let go of her wrists. My hands cupped her cheeks and I leant down to kiss her. I wasn’t really expecting her to kiss me back. It shocked me so much that I pulled away.

“Romantic much,” she said. I beamed jumping to my feet and I pulled Katsi up. I pulled her into my arms pulling her in so she couldn’t go anywhere.

“Your face was epic though.” I told her. She just frowned up at me. We stood there for a little bit but then reality came crashing down on both of us when we knew it was time for the trial. I took hold of Katsi’s hand and we trailed through the woods back to the fort. It took us longer than I thought but when we got to the doors people were trailing in. some people I knew who were involved in the original investigation. Some people were really random, and they probably didn’t know anything to do with Danni.

We pushed past the people and headed in front of everyone else. We walked towards the court; down the original corridor that I first brought Katsi down. I saw the pictures that I had grown so accustomed to over the years. The people who come before me. The leaders that came before me. We finally reached the large doors and pushed them open. It felt awfully dramatic. People were already inside and settling down. I walked up to the front where my mother was stood talking to a few of the officials that would oversee the trial.

She turned and looked at us. Her gaze was hard and I guess in a way she didn’t want me to be here, in the room.

“Ten minutes” She said. Both Katsi and I nodded. We were finally going to do this. It was happening and we had everything against Danni. He had no way out. Everyone seemed to be sitting down and so my mother gave me that look. I sighed and walked off. Katsi stood there looking slightly lost. I sat down where I could and just watched as Danni was brought forward. His face was neutral and there was nothing that said guilty.

Katsi and the others moved to their seats. The jury sat in their area watching everything that went on. I sat where I was looking on from a distance. Danni stood in the middle with everyone watching him. His hands were tied together and he had a collar on that stopped him to from changing. He stood there with the guard just behind me.

“Danni Lovato, you are here today on suspicion of a many great things, how do you plead?” My mother asked. Danni glanced at me.

“What do you think?” he comment. I wanted to tell him to watch his mouth but I knew if I did my mother would chuck me out. I knew then that this trial was going to be a bitch.
