Secret Lure of a Cat Demon

Chapter Old Faces

It was hours later when I woke up. The sun was high in the sky and the panthers were moving around. Lilith was back but she looked grim. I wondered how Temperance was. I changed and sat up. It was Monday and it was time to go home. What I truly wanted was to stay here for a long time, here I had no worries. It was beautiful. I rubbed my eyes and look around properly. The people that I knew of were all mellowing out. I couldn’t see Katsi and so I guessed she was on a run. It was the best way to release stress. Katsi’s mother was sat in her usual spot talking to what looked like a cousin of Katsi’s though I could have been mistaken.

She looked a lot more relaxed now she knew where everyone was and how they were. I got to my feet and walked out the cave. I took a deep breath and took in the surrounding area. Form this angle, with the cave behind me made it look so beautiful. It made me want to stay but I knew me and Katsi had to move on. It was inevitable.

“It’s beautiful isn’t it?” someone said quietly. I nodded and looked at Katsi’s mother.

“It sure is” I replied. She looked at me I glanced at her.

“I thought about what you said” she said. She seemed less stern. “and thank you” she continued. “Thank you for saving my daughters life and thank you for everything you have done. I understand who you are and I can understand why it isn’t your fault. I know you will become king and I know you will make a great king but what I want you to do now as lord of the guard is to change the rules. Reason with your parents. I miss my children and you are the only one who can change that. I believe you have changed Katsi with in the last couple of weeks. She is more responsible and isn’t so hard. So again, thank you. I will request that Lilith stay here for support towards the pack but once Tempy is OK and home safe she can come back” she talked. Her voice was soothing but had meaning to it.

“I will grant you that but Katsi can’t stay. She is mine, and my mother put me in charge, she has yet to finish her training.” Katsi’s mother nodded at my words and she seemed even more grateful.

“Katsi might have not told you this but I can see what people feel deep in there hearts and that is why I know you were telling truth and I can see how much you love my daughter. You might not know it yourself yet but I can see it there. I know she can tough to handle and has a hard past but please, treat her well.”

“I don’t love her, if I did, I would know. Royalty has a certain way of knowing if they are in love.” I told her, she looked at me and nodded understanding.

“Ah, the sparkle” she said with realisation. I nodded a little stunned.

“How do you know?” I asked her. She smiled.

“I once too had the liberty of having a royalties love” she whispered. “My family don’t know besides my brother. He was a lovely man but I was in love with my husband. I had to deny him.” she said. I looked at her baffled trying to figure out who.

“I think he was your great great uncles daughters son,” I blinked completely unaware. “Your fathers cousin I believe” I nodded finally getting it. “He was a great man, like all your family is” she then turned and went back in to the cave. Just at that moment Katsi walked back in dressed and happy. She had wet hair that shimmered in the sun.

“Where have you been?” I questioned her.

“Bathing,” she said. Bathing...? how could she be bathing out here? I couldn’t comprehend the idea. I didn’t move though. I didn’t want to.

About five minutes later Katsi walked up next to me and smiled. She was ready to leave. And it was about time. I wanted to get home, get all her tests over with and relax. This way I would be able to move her where I wanted and this way I would be able to move her out my life. She nodded at me and we started running. She changed when running and jumping over a bolder. She was magnificent but she was now faster. I changed my self and we raced all the way back to head quarters.

Once we were there we collapsed out side puffing and exhausted. I looked over at Katsi. My tongue hang out and my chest heaved . She did the same but her dark coat shone in the sun and she was magnificent. Just as my breathing started to calm down I heard something. Running feet all around, and then a howl. This I knew meant business. It was the howl of an alarm. An intruder alarm. I got to my feet and Katsi looked at me. She didn’t know what was happening. I knew where to go and what to do but I didn’t want to leave Katsi by her self. The howl would only be for a reason and I had to answer the call. I got up trotted over the Katsi. Rubbed my head against hers, licked her on the cheek and dashed off. I knew that the affection I just showed her was not normal and I knew she would question me but I wanted to let her know I was going to come back.

I dashed off as quick as I could around the back and into the woods. I didn’t know who I was catching but I knew it had to be important enough for them to howl out for me. I soon came to a clearing and demons and shifters alike were in a circle surrounding someone. I trotted forward to wards them and the circle parted. At first I didn’t recognise then people in front of me, and I didn’t want to. I was furious as it was. I changed back and walked up to them.

“State your name and business. You are on guard land” I heard chuckling and all formality disappeared. I walked up to the took them by the collar. Then it hit me. I dropped them and stepped back. It couldn’t be I thought to my self.

“Zev?” Someone questioned. I span around. It was my mother. She looked worried. “Are you okay?” she asked me. I shook my head.

“I killed him, I killed him 4 years ago, how is he still alive?” I said. I started breathing fast my eyes danced frantically. I hadn’t been this bad in forever. My mother took me by the shoulder as I tried not to panic. I couldn’t think, I couldn’t comprehend anything.

“Take him to the dungeons” my mother said and she pulled me off.
