Secret Lure of a Cat Demon

Chapter My Keeper

I looked at him as he poised to strike me. He was a complete blur and it was hard to focus as I resisted the force trying to enter me. He raised the dagger a little bit and I watched him. What the hell was he doing? He couldn’t be thinking what I think he was thinking and the please I was able to utter wasn’t a ‘please kill me now’ it was a ‘please, help me.’

I closed my eyes hoping for the best. He wouldn’t kill me, he couldn’t, he loved me, unless he killed me because he loved me. I opened my eyes wide and I saw Zev clearly now. He faltered when he saw my eyes open. My body had stopped shaking and I was in control but I could feel someone was manipulating that control. I looked up and looked around. It was like everything was new to me. I looked at Zev and cocked my head.

“Katsi?” he asked but I didn’t hear it. Or I did hear it but the being inside me didn’t. I cocked my head and looked at Zev. I frowned and moved so fast that I didn’t think it was possible. I rolled back and kicked my legs at Zev. This was insane. What was I doing? I heard Zev growl at me and he got to his feet.

His stance was reading for a fight. I walked to the door but I stopped and looked behind me. I cocked my head again and I looked at Zev. He was readying to fight me but I didn’t want to fight him. The person inside me was curious about him for sure.

I walked over to him; I was more like an animal prowling to look at her prey than anything. I felt primitive.

“You are my keeper?” I said but it wasn’t me, it wasn’t my voice. Zev nodded all the same. I was confused.

“Where is Katsi?” Zev asked.

“She is safe, for now.” I said. I didn’t want to talk. It was so strange.

“What do you want?” Zev asked. The person made me walk close to Zev. I was up in his face now. Those ice blue eyes look back at me with determination and they didn’t falter.

“Don’t look at me like that keeper.” I said. Zev stared at me. No way was he going to let this go. I needed to sort this out. I closed my eyes, not my body but me, I closed my eyes and I focused. I heard screaming and the person inside me was scared. I could feel it. I felt all my controls come back but then it was hard to keep it, I ripped the amulet off my neck and I took hold of the dagger in Zev’s hand. I was not going to stand for this.

“You want control?” I asked myself. “I will give you control.” I stabbed the dagger through the metal of the amulet. I heard screaming and I shook a little bit as I felt a whole new weight lift from me.

When I stopped shaking I took hold of the amulet and held it up to Zev. I smiled at him and he smiled back at me.

“What did it want?” He asked. I smiled and dropped the amulet.

“You, you were her keeper, it was looking for its keeper, but you weren’t its rightful keeper. The keeper that the amulet knew is long gone.” I told Zev. He just nodded at me slowly. Then I turned my back from him. “I still hate you,” I said. I heard Zev chuckle.

“Those words just make me want you more. Stop luring me in.” He told me. I looked at him slightly turning my head to see him.

“I am not.” I said meekly. Zev raised his eye brows.

“It’s secret that’s why.” He said softly. I frowned at his words.

“I am not luring you in.” I snapped. He chuckled again. I felt like a child again, not a grown woman.

“Oh, you are.” He said. He walked up to me and stroked my hair. “You’ve been luring me in since day one. You say things that hit me when needed. You move that body in the right way to make me want you: If that isn’t luring me than I don’t know what you call it.” He chuckled. I frowned at him. He spun me around and wrapped his arms around my waist. “I love you.” He whispered. I cocked my head to the side looking curious and I smiled.

“I love you too, I think.” I told him. He chuckled and picked me up.

“Lure me some more, my cat demon queen.” I giggled and shook my head.

“No.” I said to him. Zev carried me out of the room leaving the amulet where it led. I forgot about it as Zev dropped me on the floor and pulled me off. We trotted out the hotel and when we were out of notice from people we hit stop speed. There was straight country side between here and the closest Guard HQ. It didn’t take us long to get there. I stared in marvel as the stone walls were high and daunting. Zev got to about five metres in front of the doors when a figure jumped from the top. He straightened up and looked at us both.

He eyed us and then without warning went for Zev. I yelped like a child but Zev was fast. He ducked and elbowed the man in the stomach. Zev scooted around and then elbowed the man in the back. He fell to the floor.

Well there certainly wasn’t going to be any danger for me from now on is there. I couldn’t help but giggle at the fact that I was quite protected. I walked up to him and crouched in front of the man.

“Do you know who you just attacked?” I asked the man. He glared at me.

“Yeah, a wolf and his bitch” he spat at me. I held back the laugh that tried to escape. I brought my finger to the side of my face so it was pointing to the sky. I moved it from right to left and tutted at him.

“Oh, no, no, no, that would be the Prince of demons and the lord of the guard and I am not his bitch, I am not even a wolf.” I told him. Horror was plain to see on his face. “Now, I am hungry, where is the food?” I said standing up with a hand on my hip. I realised I was not acting anything like myself. It was like the thing that had taken over my body still controlled some part of me. I tried to shrug it off as I walked up to the door and banged it with my fist, hard. The door opened and I gave the man a small wave and a killer smile.

He looked at me, Zev who was just standing in the sun like there wasn’t anything going on and the man who lay on the floor. Without the amulet we wouldn’t get far, there was no way to tell if we were guard members or not and there was certainly no way to tell that Zev was the lord let alone the prince.

I wanted rest, I wanted to get away from it all but I was set to be queen in the future, and this would be my duty from now on. The man in the door stood aside realizing that there was no way to beat two against one. I smiled and moved inside.

“I want a room that will accommodate the lord and I want another room right next to it.” I told the man. Zev came up behind me and placed a hand on my shoulder.

“Calm down” He told me. I crossed my hands at him ignoring him. He had all the power. He was the prince, soon to be King of the demon race. He was the lord, Lord of the Guard. I was a mere cat demon, someone who had been pulled in because of a mad man, I had secretly lured the lord in, and now I had almost as much power as he did. I wondered if you could go mad with power.
