Chapter Libraries and Spells
What Zev meant to ‘you shine’ I didn’t know. I couldn’t figure it out but something had to be done. All this waiting around was killing me. I wasn’t allowed to fight and I wasn’t allowed to hurt Danni. It was like I was imprisoned again. I had lost track of the weeks as it had been so messed up with attacks and events. Everything was swirling around my head.
First off, Danni, why was he here? His motive? To get revenge, to finish Zev off. If that was so I couldn’t let that happen. I had to protect him. As a friend and as his loyal subject.
Thinking about Zev brought more questions. Why did he kiss me? Why did he say I shine? Where did he get that from? I wanted answers and I didn’t know who to go for them. I could ask my sister but I doubt she would tell me. I could go to Gur but he might not know at I am on about and if went to the queen she might be to busy to listen to me.
I didn’t know who else to ask. I sighed. I got up off my bed and left the room. I walked around like a zombie, better this time. I didn’t crash into people. I smiled and moved out the way. I wanted to find out information but no one would give it unless I had reason.
When I bumped into Gur I smiled he asked how I was doing and if I knew were Zev was. I told him I didn’t and just as he was walking away I stopped him. He looked at me waited.
“Do you know if there is a library here?” I asked him. He nodded.
“Sure I do” He said. “You just have to get permission as it is hidden” My spirits suck. I needed that library. “Why do you need to go in it?” He asked me. I shrugged.
“No matter, just wanted to read.” Gur nodded slowly at my words.
“When Zev gets back, I am sure he will show you.” Gur told me. I nodded slowly thinking to my self, yeah right.
I sighed and walked away. I wondered what the date was. I had lost control of time and I couldn’t figure it out by the time I was taken as I have been unconscious for a lot of the time.
I walked to corridors aimlessly for hours. It started getting dark before I ended up at the front doors. Nothing screamed library at me. I sighed in frustration as I rounded the last corner. The space was empty but lit well. The candles three funny pictures at the wall which made it look creepy and cold. The stars looked grand and the corridors looked long. The front doors look larger than normal but I put it to the strange lighting.
I jumped when they opened. I span to look at who was coming through. It was Zev. He looked peaceful and happy. Tired but peaceful.
“Hi,” I automatically said to him when he started to look up. When he saw me he smiled. “Good day?” I asked him. He nodded and smiled. It was brilliant. So dazzling.
“Yeah, I have a few people working some stuff out. But we need to talk.” He said. I looked at worried. What had I done now?
“What’s up?” I asked. He took my hand and pulled me over to the stairs. He pulled me to sit down. He looked thoughtful. What was he trying to ask me?
“I don’t want to sound like I’m coming off in the wrong way.” He paused. “You used to drink heavily?” he asked. I looked at him hard.
“How did you find out?” I asked.
“People, but Katsi I need to know.” He paused waiting for me to answer.
“Yes, I did” He nodded.
“How did you stop?” he asked. I took a moment to think. I don’t really remember how I stopped. I guess it was after I met Danni.
“I don’t know. The plant works best in tea so I guess Danni got me in to tea.” He nodded.
“Now what about children, do you have any?” I was startled. I didn’t know what to say. I just blinked at him. I finally shook my head.
“No! How can you say such a thing. I am only 24.” He sighed.
“I didn’t mean to offend. Do you even know you have been pregnant?” I pulled right away from him. What was he talking about?
“Katsi, I need to know, if you have known to be pregnant since you met Danni, if you have lost the child or...” He trailed off.
“I have never been pregnant.” I stated. He nodded.
“I am only asking because my sources have told me that you were, that you’re a seductress and that you drank a lot.” I nodded in agreement to him.
“Yes, I did drink a lot, and yes, I did become quite the seductress in my youth but I have never been pregnant, if I had I would know,” I told him. He nodded and hugged me.
“That is perfect. Thank you” I blinked surprised. I got to my feet and started up the stairs. He was acting weird. I got half way up and stopped. I turned and looked down at him.
“I never asked you, where is the library?” He looked up and blinked.
“I will show you tomorrow” He said to me. I crossed my arms.
“No, I want to read something before I got to sleep tonight and I would like a book.” I stated. He blinked and got up. He nodded and led me up the stair. I stayed silent. I didn’t know what to say to him. What could I say?
“When is your birthday?” Zev suddenly blurted. I glanced at him.
“What is the date, and I can tell you” I asked him back. He took a moment to think and then he looked down at me and smiled.
“14th of June” he told me. I instantly smiled.
“Next week! The 21st!” I exclaimed. Zev instantly smiled wider.
“That’s great” He told me. I nodded. He seemed so happy. Was he planning something? I didn’t know but Zev took me along the corridors towards a place in the fort I hadn’t been yet. It was near the back. It seemed the darkest part of the fort. There weren’t many flames lighting the way and the walls were dank and dull. Zev didn’t look at walls or at the black floor. He just looked at the space in front of him.
He soon stopped at a dead end corridor. I cocked my head to the side as Zev placed his hand on the wall. He closed his eyes and muttered something. The wall the began to shift. I blinked shocked. I felt the magic emanating from him. How was that possible? He dropped his hand and looked at me. He was tense and he knew I would say something.
“How?” Was all I could say. He shrugged.
“Royal blood has its positive points to life.” he said. I nodded slowly.
“Zev that was magic, I know that spell. I felt it from you. How?” I demanded. He hung his head and said nothing. He walked in and candles lit. I gaped at the room in front of me. Thousands of cases stood in front of me reaching the high ceiling. There were a few desks with lights stood on top but nothing else.
There was books of all sorts old and new, dark and coloured. Most if no all the books were hard back. I walked up to the closest bookcase and touched the books. I closed my eyes and smiled. They were happy. I opened my eyes and looked at Zev. He was watching me.
“They are happy.” I told him. “A little alone but they are happy” he nodded slowly.
“What are you looking for exactly?” He asked me. This time I gave him a hard stare.
“None of your business, I think I can find what I want and lock the door behind me.” I snapped. His eyes flicked with hurt but it was soon gone.
“I have to stay” He said.
“I don’t care. Can’t you trust me?” I asked him. He frowned and stalked off. Maybe I had pissed him off. I shrugged and looked over the cases. Now where would I find the Royal history and legacies.
