Chapter Answers and Passing
How dare he wake me up just to tell me I had to do an exam! I was happily sleeping, happily dreaming of things that had nothing to do with him. He had walked in, jumped on my bed and shook me awake. How to treat someone. After I had showered I walked out my room and followed Zev to the room where I had been learning my lessons with him. He sat me down at a desk and he set me the paper. He told me the rules and I started. He left me there of course. He acted like he didn’t care. He had totally forgotten his kiss, he had forgotten everything. He acted like he hated me.
It didn’t take me long to finish it, I whizzed through the questions. Zev didn’t come back either. When I finished I thought about things. I thought about the kiss and I thought about Danni. How I recognise the name but nothing came to mind. Besides my mind went straight back to the thought of the kiss. It repeated in my mind, running over how it happened. And why it happened. I felt like I should have expected it due to the fact that when he left me he licked me. I couldn’t understand it and so I just got up and left.
I walked the corridors for a long time. I don’t know how long but I needed to figure something’s out. I didn’t come to any more conclusions than I did in the exam room. I walked through the corridors and I went down all the flights of stairs until I walked into the dark. Candles lined the walls to light the path. The stairs were spiral and at the bottom there sat a buff looking man. I smelt the air. He was a shifter and he was strong, there was a fish smell that lingered in the air. When he looked up I saw the deep brown eyes that questioned my motive. There I knew he was a bear shifter. Bears happened to be softies but when you pissed them off you are in for it. He stood up and stood in my way. I stopped in front of him and crossed my arms.
“Can I help you?” he asked me. I smiled and nodded.
“Yeah, I am looking for a prisoner under the name of Danni?” I said to him innocently. He nodded and led me down the hall. I found this surprising. This was easy. I bet I wouldn’t be able to go into the cell though I thought to myself. The guard stopped at the end next to the darkest cell.
I came up to the bars and looked inside. There sat a man not much older than me. He looked about Zev’s age. His hair was ruffled and dark. I cleared my throat and he lifted his head. His green eyes that shone brightly in the dim light looked at me and then a smirk appeared on his face.
“Can you leave us?” I asked the guard. He nodded reluctantly and left.
“Why, look who it is. Did you get curious my dear? Wonder where I was, did you?” I growled deep in my throat.
“Who are you?” I asked him. He chucked and I hit the bars in frustration. “How do you know me? How am I connected to you? Why did you tell Zev that I helped you? Who are you?” he chuckled some more.
“Oh, baby, you helped me trick the lord of the guard 4 years ago, you helped me use someone to get killed. You also were lured here by me and babe, hope you have been practising” He said.
“What do you mean?” I asked. I was getting upset now.
“You used your powers to help me trick Zev into killing an innocent person. Zev killed him and we then planned how you were going to help me into the guard” I stepped back unbelieving.
“Your lying” I whispered. He his eyes locked with mine.
“Your scar on the back of your leg, you got that from a bite from play fighting with a cheetah shifter. You know he was pissed off with Zev. You don’t know where you got those little puncture wounds do you lovie?”
“Stop lying” I said to him.
“Stop denying and remember, you helped me here lovie” He said back.
“But you didn’t get away did you?” I asked him. He shook his head.
“Not yet, no, but all in good time” I frowned and walked off with out saying another word. The guard sat on his chair looked up at me and I smiled. He didn’t frown he just looked at me with accusing eyes. I looked away and trotted off so fast I must have looked guilty.
I needed answers. He told me I helped him but how, I don’t even know the face. I don’t even know how to use my powers like that, I don’t even remember anything from the last four years much besides living day to day life. I walked through the corridors frantically. I needed to talk to someone. I needed to tell Zev I was innocent, I didn’t know him. I needed for him to understand. I also needed the queen, she would know what to do, she would know the truth.
I ran up stairs and I headed to her room. I didn’t know if she would be there or somewhere else but I needed to find out. I rounded the last corner when I bumped into someone. I fell back onto the floor and looked up. Gur stood there looking over his shoulder with an amusing smile on his face. I shot daggers at him and he smiled some more.
“You keep looking at me like that the winds might change, but you won’t” I growled and hoisted myself up. “Where are you off too in such a hurry anyway?” he asked me.
“To see the queen, I need to talk to her.” he faced me now and looked at me concerned.
“That’s what Zev said to me” he said quietly. I looked at him shocked. I pushed past him and I ran to the door without knocking, I walked in. The queen sat at her desk and Zev stood there with his arms crossed looking angry. His eyes darted towards me and I saw hatred.
“I’m innocent. That man in the dungeons, I do not know him, I don’t even know how to change someone’s appearance, I am not that advanced or even that powerful. If I was, don’t you think I would heal my sister! I am innocent, I don’t even know what is going on? I don’t know if he is trying to taunt me or to turn you against me but I swear I didn’t do it” Zev frowned and that hurt, he was angry at me, he was pissed off at me, why? I looked away from him and I looked at the queen, she looked back at me and smiled sweetly.
“I know” She said. My mouth formed an O when I realised I rambled. “Danni has a tendency to lie but I have to say dear, you might not be as innocent as you think. I believe you do not know that man and I believe that you did not do anything to hurt Zev or the guard. But I do believe you were involved somehow.” I blinked at her. I looked at Zev and he hadn’t taken his eyes off me.
I knew my eyes were watery. Did I look desperate? He dropped his arms and pushed past me. He walked out the door and slammed it closed. I tensed as the bang sounded.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered. When I looked at her. She shook her.
“It’s okay, I believe he let go of his resistance to instinct because he knows that this time he is going to get involved deep with this case. The people he loves and cares about are in danger. He doesn’t know what to do and then to find out that you might be involved can make a world come crashing down. Did you kiss him back?” she asked me. I shook my head too scared to speak. “I thought as much. Normally when Zev kisses a girl it goes farther but you didn’t do anything” I hung my head. “It’s okay, I can understand why. Believe it or not, you two are emotionally involved and you can’t admit it. That means you scare yourself with out knowing it.” I nodded slowly.
“When he kissed me, I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know what to say, I was already trying to figure things out” The queen nodded understanding.
“Maybe you should talk to him.” she said to me. I nodded and I got up. I bowed with a smile. I thanked her and I left the room. I went back towards my room hoping I would find Zev there. When I got there, I didn’t see him. I groaned but then I thought of the exam room. I dashed off toward it and I instantly smiled when I saw him sat at the desk looking at my paper. I wanted to just walk in there and talk to him, persuade him but my nerves stopped me. I just stood there watching him. He looked through my paper carefully. He frowned deeply concentrating on just the words that I wrote. I took a deep breath and told my self that I needed to walk in and talk to him but nothing happened.
At that point Zev looked up towards the ceiling and took a deep breath. He looked exhausted and troubled. His mind was confused and he needed to understand things. He then noticed me. He lifted his head up a little from his hung back position and looked at me. He frowned and looked back down at my work.
“What do you want?” he said. He had that cold tone to him again and I started to think that he couldn’t control his emotions.
“I wanted to talk to you” I almost whispered. He gave a sound like he didn’t care. “Uh...about Danni” I said.
“You lied to me” He said cutting me off.
“I didn’t know I knew him!” I screamed. “I don’t know him. He tells me things I don’t remember. For the last 4 years maybe 5 I get memory blanks, since I have been here, I have had a clear mind for once. If I could change someone’s appearance don’t you think that I would be able to heal my sister. Transfiguration is harder to perfect than healing, even more when it is on a another person. You need to believe me, I haven’t done anything wrong, I don’t know that guy.” I pleaded. He stared at me for a few moments before he made any movement or sound.
“You passed” he said. I frowned confused. Was this a test? A test of loyalty.
“Passed what?” I asked stupidly.
“Your exam,” he told me. Realisation then hit me and I nodded understanding.
“Ah, okay, really?” I asked. He nodded.
“Yeah, you did well, almost 100%. Take the paper away and learn the wrong ones.” I nodded. He seemed to professional. “Next your fighting exam. To the hall.” he said. So we left and I readied my self for the fight that was to come.
