Back at the gully, Harry and Herbert emptied the lapsack full of marshmelons out onto the ground and, without stopping to draw breath, they took up their respective positions as before.

Harry held his braces in the air, while Herbert, acting as both munitions manager and gunner, inflated three of the sticky ripe fruits and launched them, one after the other, into the midst of the battle weary monsters. The barrage of well-aimed projectiles ripped through the enemy ranks with devastating effect and with their torn wings hopelessly entangled in sticky marshmelon gum, the few remaining predators fell from the sky and lay down, defeated, in the desert sand to die.
