Chapter 2
Chapter 2 Don’t Follow In
Outside the car window, the flying snow made the familiar courtyard of the Scott mansion crystal clear, but Anna wasn’t in the mood to appreciate it. She was full of doubts, and only felt the cold that penetrated her bones. It was so cold that she felt numb.
The car stopped. The driver got out of the car, trotted all the way, and took Carlos and Pier under the umbrella, leaving Anna alone in the snow. Unfortunately, the snow fell more and more heavily. Soon, the top of Anna’s head was covered with hoarfrost. Her coat was too thin. When the winter wind blew up, the chill poured into her fluttering coat and trousers swinging with the wind. She followed behind them cautiously without saying a word.
Carlos strutted forward, walking ahead with Pier. Suddenly, he heard the sound of falling. He frowned slightly, turned, and looked down. It turned out that it was Anna who fell on the
snow.
Pier laughed wildly, “You even fall in flat shoes. Didn’t you always wear high heels in the past?”
Anna hurriedly got up. She didn’t care about patting the snow off her body, and hurriedly bowed, “… Sorry.”
Pier snorted, turned, and walked away. However, Carlos stood still and looked at her from a distance of several meters. As soon as Anna raised her head, she met his dark and deep
eyes.

Carlos stood in the yard, looking at the courtship candles she put on the ground with displeasure on his face.
“Anna, don’t you have anything better to do?” This was what Carlos had said the most. But Anna was so proud and confident back then.
“I love doing things for you! Carlos, just wait. I will make you fall in love with me one day!” Anna winked at Carlos
mischievously.
It seemed centuries ago.
Now, she was in the familiar courtyard again, looking up at the familiar man, but the twinkle in her eyes was gone. On the day of the exchange of identities, her pride had been pulled from her body like flesh and blood, leaving her in great pain.
Fortunately, three years in prison had taught her to behave. It turned out that after a person was disheartened, he could relax his mind and not care about anything. Even though the coldness in Carlos’s dark eyes pierced her heart, she could
remain calm.
“Don’t follow in!” Suddenly, Carlos gave an order.
Anna bowed and agreed, “Don’t worry. I won’t go in.”
Then, she stood on the spot, like a street lamp that had not been installed, skinny and crooked.
Carlos and Pier sat down in the reception room on the second floor, and they drank coffee leisurely.
Through the window, Pier looked at Anna who was still standing in the snow with hatred in his eyes, “She’s

something. She listened to you and didn’t get in!”
“Pretentious!” Carlos took a sip of his coffee and unconsciously glanced at the yard.

Pier opened the window, “Don’t stand here! Walk back by yourself. Dad is still waiting for you at home.”
Anna heard the sound and raised her head to look in Pier’s direction. Snowflakes accidentally floated into her eyes and were melted by the anticipation in her heart. After so many years, only her father still missed her, and he had often visited her in prison even when he had limited mobility. Perhaps, he was the only one who still regarded her as a family in the world.
Pier’s words were like an amnesty order, allowing Anna to leave the yard of the Scott mansion reasonably. She walked towards her home. Oh no, that was not her home anymore. It was just a good family that still took her in.
Nevertheless, Anna’s heart was full of hope. She walked briskly on the garden path but suddenly felt a heart–piercing pain in the soles of her feet.
At first, she thought it was snow seeping in after the soles got wet. But the more she walked, the more it hurt, as if there was something sharp stuck in her feet. Regardless of the cold, she sat down in the grass in the garden and checked the soles of her shoes. The sheepskin soles had already been punctured by countless small nails and glass shards, and her white socks were bright red.
This pair of shoes was the only one she had taken away from the Perkins family. The shabby soles at the moment seemed to imply that she would always lose things that did not belong

to her.

Three years ago, she had suddenly been told that she and a girl named Lola had been mistaken for each other in the hospital. She never knew that she had invisibly taken Lola’s position and taken away the happiness and love that should have belonged to Lola. Just after the Perkins family took Lola back, she asked to leave voluntarily. She had been an intruder from the beginning, and it was time for her to go back to where she had belonged, even if that place had endless torment and hardship and she fell from high with bruises all over just because Brad, her biological father, was a hopeless gambler.
Just after Anna left the Perkins family, Mr. Perkins was reluctant to give her up, and gave Brad a large sum of money, asking him to take good care of Anna. Seeing so much. money, Brad agreed readily. But what happened then? He didn’t take care of her at all. He had gambled all that money away in several days. He had even often gotten drunk and beaten Anna up and even threatened to sell her into
prostitution… How had she survived those days? Only her tears knew.
Slowly, she stopped crying just like now. She didn’t shed a single tear when the bright red blood stains soaked her shoes
and socks.
She looked around. Although the garden path was covered with snow, it was uneven, and there were many hurtful things buried underneath. Probably, it was Pier’s prank again. They had loved to play tricks on each other since they were little. But this time, Pier showed her no mercy.
There was no expression on her face. When her biological

father Brad had beaten her up when he got drunk, and she had been bullied in prison and couldn’t even get enough. food, she stopped crying in pain.
In front of the French windows in the distance, Pier and Carlos drank coffee and watched Anna limping along the 200–meter garden path.
“She’s quite tough!” Pier sneered, “I wonder how long she’ll keep pretending!”
Carlos didn’t reply. His eyes were icy cold. Three years was enough to change anyone. Without the protection of the Perkins family, Anna had completely turned from a proud and respected rich girl to a homeless one.
“You said just now that you arranged a blind date for her?” He pinched the coffee cup with his slender fingers with so much force that his knuckles turned white.
“Yes, Raul Rubin, the playboy from the Rubin family. You know him.” Pier had a wicked smile on his face.
“What if she won’t marry him?” Carlos knew Anna in the past. She had claimed she would not marry any other man but him. How could she like Raul?
“Speaking of which, I have to go back quickly, or she might complain about me to my ɗad behind my back!” Pier got up and rushed out the door.
