Chapter My Troubles 36
Chapter
36
Not long ago, during one of Nydia and Mick's arguments, she had accused him of having at lover who was just into his money, and that was exactly how he'd responded back then.
He'd seen the clear disappointment in Nydia's eyes, but instead of realizing his mistake, he'd continued to mock her.
"Unlike some people, who seem like they don't care about money but actually want more than lovers. At least the lovers wear their ambitions on their faces, while some people's motives are impossible to decipher."
Though it'd been an intense fight, those words hadn't been spoken in the heat of the moment. They came from his true feelings instead.
Nydia had married him because the Wilcher family believed their compatible birth charts could help him regain his eyesight.
He'd decided from the start that even if she refused, he'd give her a sum of money and have her play the part for a few months until the Wilcher family gave up on the idea.
However, Nydia never complained and took meticulous care of him until his eyesight was fully
restored.
As a couple who'd gotten together due to birth charts, she'd sacrificed so much for him, and Mick refused to believe she wouldn't want anything in return.
His repeated attempts to figure out her true intentions had come up empty, and he'd been convinced that she was inscrutable and calculating.
Now Nydia stepped forward and threw back all the hurt he'd caused her a thousandfold." Unlike some people, who are so guarded that no one ever knows what they're thinking. That's what's terrifying."
Her words were sharp and felt like a dull knife grinding against his heart. Mick's expression shifted. His heart ached accompanied by a sense of panic.
Nydia's eyes had changed. She'd never looked at him with such clarity, and it hit Mick that he'd lost something.
The way she'd delivered those words so lightly made him feel like she no longer cared. "You've never acted this way. Now..."
"Can't you understand, Mr. Wilcher? We're getting a divorce. This isn't a game!"
Nydia noticed his emotions were in turmoil and distracted, so she seized the chance to dart toward the stairs. Mick reacted quickly by grabbing her before she could run off.
"Enough. Let's not talk about this. Let's talk about Ted. He needs you now,"

Nydia questioned, "The food I sent over today; what did you say to him after you received it?"
Mick faltered and was unable to respond. He replied, "I'll admit you're better at taking care of kids. Let's move on and let bygones be bygones."
"You want to move on because it didn't hurt you. Ted chose to stay with you because him he'd have a new mother soon.
"Why don't you wait a little longer? Perhaps you'll soon find him a better nanny."

At this moment, the elevator doors opened. Nydia quickly stepped inside and pressed the close
button.
Mick stood frozen in place and didn't chase after her.
Half an hour later, it was as if a thought struck him. He dashed into his car and drove home. The layout of their room remained the same since Nydia moved out. He sprinted up the stairs, entered the bedroom, and opened her drawer. As expected, the wedding ring was inside. There had been no ceremony because he'd been blind. Apart from the marriage certificate, the ring was the only symbol of their relationship.
As a doctor, Nydia couldn't wear the ring often, so she'd either keep it in her pocket or wear it on a necklace. She'd never been without it. But now, she didn't want it anymore.
It struck Mick that their talk of divorce was serious. It wasn't some childish tantrum to get his
attention.
