Alicia caught herself after playing puppet master with Dalton’s smile. Her heart kicked up a notch, but then she remembered Dalton was out cold. Shaking off the weirdness of the moment, she started working his muscles.

With Dalton out of commission for like six months, his muscles should’ve been a mess. But, props to his caregivers; he was in decent shape. Alicia remembered this old–school massage trick her mom’s medical books had mentioned, something that could help Dalton bounce back. Without wasting time, she did the massage for him as the book wrote.

The next day, bright and early at 8 a.m., Ellen’s doctor showed up to Alicia for a bunch of tests at the hospital. Everything went like clockwork. Alicia dipped out without anyone being the wiser.

Outside, a financial news ticker caught her eye on a big screen across the street-“Matthew, future boss of the Hofcaster–based Gibson Group, set to tie the knot with Fiona Mayer, the so–called future chief of the Mayer Group, in a month. Word on the street is that it’s a storybook romance…” The screen flashed shots of Matthew and Fiona, looking all picture–perfect.

Talk about lousy luck,” Alicia snorted. Fiona, just an illegitimate daughter, now strutted around as if she was the real daughter of the Mayer family! Alicia whipped out her phone and, with a few taps, sent out a text that would stir the pot.

Before long, the internet lit up with headlines, “MayerHeirScandal“, “MayerEmpireCrumble, and “GoldDiggerGoesBigTime“.

The Mayer and Gibson families were up to their necks in chaos.

While Alicia was chilling and scrolling through the chaos on her phone, the ringtone cut in–it was Matthew, again. The guy sounded like he’d hit rock bottom, “Alicia, I blew it. Shouldn’t have gone for Fiona. How about we rewind? You think you could give me a break?”

“Are you drunk?” Alicia asked, her voice slicing through the phone line.

“Yeah,” Matthew slurred back, thick with feelings. “Look, Alicia, Fiona’s been playing me–the girl’s a snake. All this family drama’s got me seeing things straight now. Come on, give me another shot. Seriously, think about it–once we have a kid, we’ll have fired up, sure as heck Alicia still wanted him. All she had to do was say “yes” to having his kid, and verything the Slaters got.” Matthew was he’d kick Fiona to the curb, wedding or no wedding

Alicia couldn’t believe Matthew was still hungry for the Slater cash. A sly grin spread across her face as she laid out her trap, “Fine, I’ll give you a chance. Meet me alone, tonight, 9 PM sharp, Grand St. Regal Hotel, room 666. You got the nerve, Matthew?”

The buzz from the booze cleared from Matthew’s head in a flash. “Alicia, you can count on me. I’ll be there, he said, way too eager, and the line went dead.

Alicia hung up and made another call.

A10 PM, Mathew strutted down the fancy corridor of the Grand St. Regal Hotel and waltzed into foom 868. The room was dim, decked out like a fairytale, with a bed covered in roses. A shadowy

gure lay under the quilt

Heart im ing. Mathew jumped on the bed, saving. “Alicia! I made it! By the end of the night

he was sure she’d be all his. And after she had his baby she’d have no choice but to do what he wanted.

But minutes later, Matthew shot off the bed, yelling “Who the heck are you?! What’s going–No-

On the bed, a dude with a flashy toupee winked at Matthew.

Right then, the door burst open, and a flood of camera flashes poured in.

“Mr. Gibson, is it true you’re not into ladies? Is this Mayer–Gibson wedding just for show?”

“Does Mc Mayer know about your taste in partners?

“Rumors are flying that you’re into cross–dressing, Mr. Gibson–any comment?”

“Is the big Mayer–Gibson wedding still on track? Come on, Mr. Gibson, we need some answers.”

Standing in the spotlight in his birthday suit, Matthew was caught red–handed and shaking with fury. It felt like a volcano ready to blow inside him. Alicia! That sneaky witch–this is her doing, not doubt about it!‘ he seethed.
