Rosangela: The Runaway Princess (Book #2)

Chapter 75

King Bellamy whirled around to face me. A small puzzled frown creased his forehead. “What are you talking about, Mirabelle? Why don’t you want to go home with me?”

“I—” Before I could finish my sentence, King Bellamy interrupted.

“Don’t tell me you refuse to come home because you want to stay here with Joaquin’s son!”

I shook my head. “No, I don’t want to stay here anymore, but I don’t want to go back to the Kingdom of Clanbella either.”

“But why?” King Bellamy inquired.

“I... I... I...” I was groping for the right word to answer my grandfather’s question. I couldn’t tell him straightforwardly that I was afraid that he’s going to try to sacrifice me again if I returned to the Kingdom of Clanbella.

“I just don’t want to stay there again, Granpa,” I said at length.

“Then, what do you want, Mirabelle?” he demanded impatiently.

“I want to live in the human world again, Grandpa,” I replied.

“No, Mirabelle. I will never let you return to the human world. It will be dangerous for you to stay there,” he stated firmly.

“I have lived in the human world for 17 years. So I know perfectly well that it’s a safe place,” I said.

“You don’t understand, Mirabelle. There are a lot of evil vampires living in disguise in the human world. Some of them might try to kidnap you like what King Joaquin has done when they find out your real identity,” my grandfather explained.

“You don’t need to worry about me, Grandpa. I can take care of myself,” I said confidently.

“If you’re really able to take care of yourself, King Joaquin wouldn’t have taken you prisoner. So, admit it, Mirabelle! You can’t protect yourself,” my grandfather spoke in a fierce voice.

At my grandfather’s remarks, I found myself unable to speak. He’s right. I was too weak to defend myself. But I was too proud to admit it.

“No matter what happens, I don’t want to go back to the Kingdom of Clanbella and that’s flat!” I emphasized.

“And I’d like to know the reason why you don’t want to go home with me,” he demanded.

“I... I...” I hesitated, “I really don’t see why I should explain myself to you.”

“How could I understand if you didn’t want to explain it to me, Mirabelle? Now, tell me! Why don’t you want to come home with me?” King Bellamy snapped at me.

“Because I am afraid you’re going to sacrifice me for your immortality,” I blurted out.

“What?!” King Bellamy squawked.

I clapped a hand over my mouth when I realized that I’d just made a blunder.

King Bellamy grasped me firmly by the shoulders. “Look, Mirabelle! Whatever rumours you’ve ever heard about me, especially if it has something to do with you and your mother, is not true, okay? I love your mother and you so much and I never wish you any harm,” he tried to convince me.

“If my suspicions were untrue, why did you insist on marrying me off to Prince Maximilian?” I questioned him.

“The reason why I urged you to marry Maximilian is because I want you to be the next queen of the kingdom of Clanbella. But the problem is, you’re only a half-blood vampire, so you have no right to succeed to the throne. You need a pure blood vampire prince like Prince Maximilian in order that you can rule Clanbella beside him,” my grandfather elaborated.

“But I never expect to be a queen of vampires, Grandpa,” I yelled at him.

“You don’t have much choice, Mirabelle. You’re the last surviving member of my family, so automatically, you become the only heir to the throne,” he insisted.

“Why are you being so selfish, Grandpa? You always do exactly as you pleases and never care of what I want,” I flared at him.

King Bellamy took a few deep breaths to calm himself down before he said softly, “Forgive me, my granddaughter! I admit that I’ve done wrong. I promise I will never force you to marry anyone against your will ever again. And if you really don’t want to be the next queen of Clanbella, I will respect your wishes. But please you have to come home with me!”

“No, I don’t want to!” I said stubbornly.

“I know you don’t have anywhere else to stay, Mirabelle. Do you think your adopted parents will accept you again if they find out that you’re actually a half-blood? Meanwhile, you had been kicked out from your father’s pack, right? So you cannot live with him there either,” said my grandfather.

“But I and my father still can live in the human world,” I said.

“Are you sure your father still wants to live with you?” King Bellamy sneered.

“Of course,” I gave an unhesitating reply, “My father loves me so much. He doesn’t want to be separated from me.”

“If your father really loves you, why has he never bothered to search for you while you’re being kept prisoner by King Joaquin?” King Bellamy inquired fiercely.

“I’m sure it’s not my father’s fault. Maybe my werewolf friend hasn’t met my father yet, so he can’t tell him that I am here,” I assumed.

“It means that the werewolves don’t want you to live with your father again, Mirabelle. That’s why they abandoned you in the kingdom of Nightshades, so that you can die in the hands of my enemy. And it seems that your father agrees with those werewolves’ decision. Because if he didn’t, he would have come to your rescue long ago,” King Bellamy blabbered. There was a hint of accusation in his voice.

I shook my head in disbelief. “No, that can’t be true.”

“It is the fact that you have to face up, Mirabelle. Your father does not give a tinker’s cuss about you,” King Bellamy accused.

I put my hands over my ears, refusing to listen to my father’s words. “No!”

“I’m the only one who truly care about you. You’d better go home with me, and let’s start life afresh together in our kingdom!” my grandfather persuaded me.

’I think it’s’s best if you go with King Bellamy now, Rosanne. After you arrive there, you can investigate whether he was telling you the truth about your father or not,′ my conscience advised me.

‘You are right,’ I thought.

“Fine. I’ll come with you, Grandpa,” I said at last.

King Bellamy had a great big grin on his face after he heard my statement. “Come on, let’s go home!” My grandfather held out his hand. Hesitantly, I took it.

We were just about to take a step when all of a sudden a pack of wolves turned up in force.
