Chapter 6
As he had promised, my father brought me to see my adoptive family the next day. We left by plane for London. I managed to sleep on the plane, so when we arrived in London, I felt as fresh as a daisy.
I was over the moon that I was finally able to set foot in London again. When I was kidnapped and brought to the supernatural world, I thought I would never be able to return to the place where I was brought up anymore. But here I was now, I had come back to London, and I wished I didn’t have to leave anytime soon.
My father and I rented a car for the day, and without wasting time, we headed straight to my adoptive family’s house which was located in Great College Street, Westminster, London.
About thirty minutes later, we reached their home. It was a Georgian terraced house with a few steps up to the front door. The house opened straight onto the street, and was protected by iron railings, dropping down to the basement level.
The walls were in brown colour. The window frames were painted white. Meanwhile, the door and the iron railings were black.
My mother’s red car and my father’s black car were parked in front of the house indicating that my adoptive parents were at home right now. I wondered why they didn’t go to work today, whereas it was weekday. Yes, both my parents worked. My adoptive mother was a fashion designer. She worked for a high-class boutique in London. Meanwhile, my adoptive father was working as the managing director in one of the largest companies in the United Kingdom.
I guessed they both probably took a day off, and it would be to my advantage. Because they stayed at home today, I could meet them without having to wait any longer.
I was about to open the car door, but unexpectedly my father held me back. “Wait, Rosanne!”
“What’s wrong, Dad?” I asked confusedly.
“You can’t go there!” he stated.
“Yesterday you said that I could see my adoptive family again, but when we’re already here, why did you say that I couldn’t meet them?” I protested.
“It’s not what I meant,” he said.
“Then what do you mean?” I inquired angrily.
“You see the car over there?” Dad pointed to a car that was parked a few feet away in front of us.
I nodded my head. “Yes.”
“The people in the car are vampires,” his voice dropped to a whisper.
My jaw dropped. “What?! How do you know that there are vampires in that car, Dad?”
“I’m a werewolf, remember? I can smell those vampires’ scents,” Dad replied.
I couldn’t believe it! There were vampires in broad daylight. We deliberately traveled at day to prevent ourselves from running across vampires. But now, the vampires were here, exactly at our destination.
“And I think they aren’t ordinary vampires,” Dad added.
“What do you mean?” I asked, didn’t understand.
“They are King Bellamy’s men,” he answered.
“What are my grandfather’s men doing here, Dad? Are they here to catch me?” I queried with apprehension.
“I don’t think so,” Dad replied, “It seems that they haven’t noticed that you’re here yet.”
“So why are they here, Dad?” I wondered.
“I think King Bellamy had them watch over your adoptive family,” my father guessed.
I started to panic. “Oh my God! It means that my adoptive family is in danger now. We have to do something to help them, Dad. I can’t let Grandpa hurt them.”
“Hey, calm down, Rosanne!” Dad soothed me, “King Bellamy isn’t stupid. He won’t dare harm your adoptive family in the human world.”
“Are you sure, Dad?” I questioned doubtfully.
“Yes, I am sure,” Dad answered confidently.
“But what if you’re wrong, Dad?” I argued. “King Bellamy is a very dangerous man. He won’t hesitate to hurt my adoptive family to get what he wants. I have to see my family now and warn them. I have to save them from the vampires.”
“You can’t do that, Rosanne, because that’s exactly what the king wants. King Bellamy knew that sooner or later you would visit your adoptive family. That’s why the vampire king used them as bait to lure you to come out of hiding,” Dad explained.
“But what about my adoptive family?” I enquired worriedly.
“Don’t worry! They will be fine all right as long as you stay away from them,” Dad reassured me.
His words took me by surprise. “So you mean I can’t see them now?”
“Unfortunately, yes,” he responded, “If you met them today, it would only endanger them.”
“But I really want to meet my family again, Dad. I have to tell them that I’m okay,” I said sadly.
“I’ll see what I can do, okay? But for now, we’d better go home before those vampires notice your presence here,” he suggested.
I let out a long breath and nodded. “Okay.”
My father was in the point of starting the engine when suddenly the front door of my adoptive parents’ house flew open. Marlon Sinclair, my adoptive father walked out of the house. Rosetta, my adoptive mother, and my adoptive sister, Marirossa followed behind him. The three of them then got into my adopted father’s car. Marlon sat behind the wheel, and Rosetta sat beside him on the passenger seat. Meanwhile, Marirossa sat in the back seat. As my adopted father’s car began to draw away, the vampire’s car followed after them.
“Oh no, those vampires are following them. We have to follow them too, Dad. I don’t want anything happens to my adopted family,” I said in panic tone.
“Okay, okay.” Dad finally turned on the engine, and we came after my adoptive father’s car.
Apparently, my adoptive family visited Hyde Park. I thought they were going to have a picnic there, but unexpectedly they didn’t do it.
Marlon, Rosetta, and Marie spread out. Each of them handed out flyers to the people who were having a walk in the park.
“What are they handing out?” I asked curiously.
“I’ll find it out,” Dad said.
My father put on his hoodie. Before he got out of the car, he told me, “Stay in the car, Rosanne! I’ll be right back.”
I nodded. “Okay.”
I watched as my father approached Marie. She gave him the flyer. My Dad exchanged a few words with Marie before he walked away.
My father walked round the park first to avoid arousing suspicion before he returned to our car.
“They’re still looking for you,” Dad said as he handed me the flyer.
I looked at the flyer from my father. It showed my picture and was captioned ‘MISSING’. It also gave a full description of me.
The fact that my adoptive family was still looking for me moved me to tears. I had been missing for more than a month now and I understood if everyone probably began to fear the worst. But I was very grateful that my adoptive family hadn’t given up on me yet. It proved how much they cared for me.
“I have to meet my adoptive family, Dad. I must tell them that I’m okay. I don’t want to make them worry about me anymore,” I told my father.
“It’s too dangerous for you to meet them now. But I’ll try to find a way to deliver your message to them. And when the time is right, I promise that you can meet them again,” Dad stated.
“Thank you, Dad.” I gave him a sad smile.
“We must be off now,” Dad said.
I glanced at my adoptive family for the last time before I nodded my head. “Okay.”
Lastly, my father drove the car, leaving Hyde Park along with my adopted family behind.
