Rosangela: The Runaway Princess (Book #2)

Chapter 41

Xavier’s Point of View:

On arriving at the meeting room, for some peculiar reason, Angela hesitated to come inside.

“What is the matter?” I queried.

Instead of answering my question, she asked me back pleadingly, “Can I wait outside until the meeting’s over?”

“No, you must accompany me to the meeting!” I declined her request.

“But I do not want to attend the meeting. It’s very boring. The meeting always sends me to sleep. So please let me wait outside!” she beseeched.

I actually agreed with Angela. Every meeting I attended was awfully boring. I also wished I could get out of going to the meeting tonight. But I had promised I would go to that meeting. And as a prince, I couldn’t go back on my promise.

“No matter what happens, you have to accompany me in the meeting!” I said with emphasis, “Besides, this meeting will finish promptly because I don’t want it to run on. So you won’t get too bored there.”

“And I won’t feel bored either if you’re on my side, Angela,” I added in my mind.

“Please, please, Xavier! Let me wait outside! I really don’t want to attend the meeting. Pretty please!” Angela gave me the puppy dog eyes.

Darn it! She looked so cute, making me not have heart to say no.

“Fine. You can wait outside. But don’t wander off! I don’t want you to go getting yourself into trouble again,” I warned her.

“Okay. I’m not going anywhere,” she promised.

Sure, if I believed that, I’d believe anything. But now I didn’t have time to argue with Angela because I had a meeting to attend.

I pushed the door open and entered the meeting room. All the people who were attending the meeting immediately greeted me. I gave a slight bow of my head in greeting before walking up to my chair and sat down.

“OK gentlemen, let’s pick up where we left off yesterday!” I stated, and lastly, the meeting began.

During the meeting, I kept sneaking a look anxiously at my wristwatch to see how long this meeting had been going on. I sighed deeply as I realized it had only been ten minutes since we started the meeting.

Oh damn! I felt like screaming. This meeting really dragged. I couldn’t wait for the meeting to be over so that I could be with Angela again.

Speaking of Angela, I was reluctant to admit that I hated to be away from her. Even though she could be annoying at times, but I wasn’t able to fool myself that I liked her.

Don’t get me wrong! I didn’t take a liking to her as a man to a woman. I meant, how could a vampire prince like me fall in love with a human girl like Angela? She just impressed me with her bravery. All this time, no one ever dared to challenge my authority. But Angela was so utterly different. She had a mind of her own and wasn’t afraid to say what she thinks or to speak out against injustice, though it always succeeded in getting her into trouble with other people.

“OK, let’s forget about Angela and focus on the meeting!” I told myself.

Despite saying it wouldn’t take long, the meeting apparently ground on for almost two hours. I couldn’t give the meeting my undivided attention because my mind kept straying back to the days I’d spent with Angela. However, I wrestled to look interested in front of the delegates who attended this meeting tonight. I didn’t want them to think that I didn’t take our business very seriously.

Another hour went by. I breathed a sigh of relief when the dull meeting finally came to an end. Pushing my chair back, I stood up and excused myself before leaving the meeting room in a hurry.

As I stepped out into the corridor, I caught Angela nodding off in an armchair by the window.

My mouth twisted into a wry smile. Angela said that the meeting always sent her to sleep that’s why she didn’t want to go with me. But look at her now! She fell asleep while waiting for me outside instead.

Crossing over, I called her name, “Angela?”

I waited for a bit, yet she made no response.

I then gave her a poke in the ribs to wake her up. “Angela, wake up!” I said repeatedly, but she didn’t want to get up yet.

I heaved a long sigh. “It seems that I have no choice but to carry her to my bedroom,” I thought.

I scooped Angela up in my arms, careful not to wake her. Just as I was about to walk, a guard suddenly approached me. “Let me help you carry her, Your Highness!” he offered.

“No, thanks. I’m perfectly capable of doing it myself,” I refused.

The guard nodded in understanding whereupon he left.

At last, I carried Angela to my bedroom. It amazed me that she didn’t even stir from her sleep. Perhaps Angela was tired out right now.

After we reached there, I asked a passing guard to help me open the door to my bedroom.

The guard obeyed my command right away.

I thanked him as I went into my room.

With a nod and a smile, the guard took leave of me, shutting the door after him.

I carefully settled Angela on the sofa, or rather, her makeshift bed, before putting a blanket over her. On the spur of the moment, I bent forward and laid a kiss upon Angela’s forehead.

“Good night, My little pet, sleep tight!” I whispered.
