Rosangela: The Runaway Princess (Book #2)

Chapter 20

“Rosanne? Rosanne, wake up! Rosanne?” I regained consciousness to someone shaking my shoulders and calling my name repeatedly.

Slowly, I opened my eyes. It was a little bit dark here. So it took a while for my eyes to adjust to the dimness. I scanned around the room I was in. This room was only illuminated by the sunlight that streamed through the tiny windows that sat high up. All the windows were barred. The ceiling, walls, floor, and door were made of metal.

“Rosanne, are you okay?” asked a voice beside me.

I turned my head to the right and saw Randolph sitting beside me. He was shirtless, and only had a pair of trousers on. I gasped when I noticed him wearing handcuffs on his wrists and iron chains on his legs. Only later did I realize that my hands were handcuffed and my feet were shackled too.

“Randolph?” I mumbled in confusion.

“Thank God you’re finally awake, Rosanne,” he said in relief.

“Where are we?” I asked as I raised my body into an upright position.

“We are in a van now. It seems that the vampires who captured us want to bring us to their kingdom,” Randolph explained.

So we’re in the back of a van? That explained why the walls and floor were made of metal. Besides, I could hear the sound of a droning engine and I could feel the vibrations from the car too. How silly of me to realize it sooner!

“Why did those vampires capture us, Randolph? Do they know who I am, so they’re planning to hand me over to my grandfather?” I enquired.

“I think they don’t recognize you, Rosanne. If they knew who you are, they wouldn’t treat you like this,” Randolph replied.

“You’re right,” I agreed with him.

“Oh my God, where is my dad, Randolph?” I asked worriedly when I just realized that my father wasn’t here with us now.

“Ivan isn’t here,” he answered, “I think they haven’t caught him yet.”

“Thank God. At least he is safe.” I let out a sigh of relief. “But the problem is we’re trapped here now. I doubt my father knows that we’re being held prisoners by those vampires, so we can’t expect him to rescue us.”

“Don’t worry! We’ll find a way out,” his voice dropped to a whisper.

“But how?” I also spoke in whisper.

“We should—” Randolph broke off in the middle of a sentence when the van suddenly jolted to a halt. It seemed to signal that our captors had reached their destination.

Not long after that, I heard the sound of the car doors opening followed by the sound of footsteps walking along the side of the van just a few inches from where I and Randolph sat down. Seconds later, the van’s rear doors opened to reveal four hooded vampires. I felt the interior of the van dip slightly as those vampires entered the back of the van one by one. Two of those vampires came at Randolph and grabbed his arms before yanking him to his feet. The other vampires advanced on me, seized me by the arms, and lastly pulled me to my feet.

“Let go of me!” I yelled while struggling to free my arms from their firm grips.

“Shut up!” one of the vampires snapped at me.

“Where are you taking us?” I asked as those vampires propelled me and Randolph towards the doors of the van. But none of the guards bothered to answer my question. Thus, I decided to keep silent.

I and Randolph were marched out of the van and into a castle. Then, they pushed us up some flights of stairs and dragged us down a maze of hallways until we stopped in front of a tall double doors. The guard standing at the either side of the door opened the double doors, revealing a very luxurious throne room.

. A man with black hair and blue eyes was sitting on the throne. Since there was a gold crown set on his head, I assumed that he’s the king. Next to him sat a beautiful woman with blonde hair and green eyes. She was also wearing a crown on her head so I guessed that she’s the queen.

Randolph and I then were marched into the throne room and brought to the center of the room.

“Kneel!” One of the guards holding Randolph ordered.

When Randolph didn’t obey, the guard kicked the back of Randolph’s knees to make him fall. Randolph tried to stand up, but the guard used his foot to push on his legs to keep him in a kneeling position.

I was pushed to my knees too. I didn’t fight because I didn’t want them to step on my legs just like what they did to Randolph.

The guards all bowed down before the king and queen.

One of the guards spoke up, “Your Majesty, we found these werewolf and human girl trespassing into our kingdom’s territory.”

“That’s not true, Your Majesty,” Randolph refuted, “We never intended to trespass into your territory. We—”

All of a sudden, a guard hit Randolph’s head with the barrel of his gun, cutting his words off.

“Shut up! You will only speak when spoken to,” he snarled.

Randolph groaned in pain.

“Randolph.” I tried to get to him, but two guards grabbed my shoulders to keep me in place.

The king rose from his throne and made his way towards us. He stopped barely a foot away from us.

“Who are you, Werewolf?” The king asked Randolph fiercely.

“My name is Randolph Odwolf from the Half-Moon Pack,” Randolph lied and I understood why. If these vampires knew that he’s the future alpha of the Bloodrose Pack, he would be in a great danger.

“Half-Moon Pack huh? I have never heard of it,” the king said suspiciously.

“My pack is a very small pack. Of course an almighty king like you won’t know about the existence of my pack,” Randolph reasoned.

“That makes sense!” the king commented, “But it doesn’t mean that I believe you, Werewolf. If you dared lie to me, I would eventually find it out. You know that, right?”

“Of course, My Lord,” Randolph said through gritted teeth.

“So what is your rank in your pack?” The vampire king asked.

“I’m a Delta,” replied Randolph.

“A Delta? Really? But why do I smell a scent of an alpha in your blood?” the king sneered.

“Oh no! How could the king know that Randolph is of Alpha blood? I don’t expect our covers will be blown up this fast,” I thought.

“Yes, I am of Alpha blood,” Randolph admitted.

I began to panic. “Is Randolph stupid or what? Why did he admit that he’s of Alpha blood? He’s going to get us killed.”

Randolph went on, “My great grandfather used to be an alpha in my pack before he was overthrown by a stronger werewolf. But I’m just a Delta now.”

I mentally let out a sigh of relief because Randolph could lie smoothly.

“Interesting!” the king exclaimed. It was apparent that he bought Randolph’s lies.

I suppressed a grin. “How stupid of this vampire king! He’s easily fooled.”

The vampire king seemed to have done talking with Randolph, so he turned to me now and enquired, “And what is your name, human?”

Before I could answer the king’s question, Randolph cut in, “Angela.”

I looked at Randolph, startled.

He nodded his head slightly, giving me a signal to play along with his lies.

“Why did he also lie to the king about my name? Since I’m known as Princess Mirabelle in the vampire world, it should be okay to tell him that my name is Rosangela, right?” I thought in bewilderment.

“Her name is Angela,” Randolph repeated with emphasis.

Unexpectedly, the king smacked Randolph across the face hard. “I didn’t ask you, Werewolf,” he snapped at him.

Randolph glared at the king.

The king turned to me again. “I ask you again, human. What is your name?”

“He has told you, right? My name is Angela,” I retorted.

“And your surname?” he inquired again.

“It’s...” I trailed off.

“No, I can’t use my father’s surname here,” I thought. “As the daughter of the most powerful king in the entire vampire realm, my mother was very popular in other vampire kingdoms. What if these vampires have ever heard that my mother was married to a human named Donovan Grandville? If I told them my last name also Grandville, they would probably get suspicious of me.”

“Sinclair,” I finally answered, “My name is Angela Sinclair.”

“What shall we do with them, Your Majesty?” questioned one of the guards.

“Throw the werewolf into the dungeons!” The king commanded.

After the king said that, two guards took a firm hold of Randolph’s arms. They yanked him to his feet, and finally began to drag him out of the throne room.

“Angela!” Randolph struggled from their grip while screaming, deliberately calling me by my fake name.

“Randolph!” I shouted back. I tried to get up and run after them but the guards took a firm grip on my arms, keeping me in place.

“What about this human girl, Your Majesty?” another guard asked.

“Send her to the slave quarters!” The king ordered.

“So this vampire king wants to make me become one of slaves in his palace? Is he kidding me? I’m a half-blood vampire princess from the kingdom of Clanbella. How could he think of treating me like a slave?” I grumbled in my mind.

“You were a princess, Rosanne. But since you ran away from your kingdom, you’re no longer a princess now,” my annoying inner voice reminded me.

I slapped my forehead mentally. “Oh great! How could I forget about it?”

The guards nodded. They forced me to my feet and were just about to yank me towards the double doors, when suddenly the queen held them back. “Wait!”

The king turned to his wife and enquired, “What’s wrong, My Queen?”

Instead of answering the king’s question, the queen got to her feet and approached us. She now stood at her husband’s side.

Out of the blue, the queen cupped my chin. She tilted my face from side to side and examined it carefully.

I actually wanted to push her hand away, but my hands were chained behind my back and my arms were also being held firmly by the guards, so I could do nothing.

“She is very beautiful, isn’t she?” the queen talked to the king.

“Yes, she’s indeed a very beautiful girl,” the king agreed with her.

“It seems such a waste to let this beautiful girl slave away in our castle. Why don’t we give her to our son as a gift?” the queen suggested.

“What the hell is she talking about? Why does she want to give me to his son as a gift? I’m a human being for goodness sake, not a thing,” I complained in my mind.

“That’s a good idea, My Queen! I think she will be a perfect pet for our son,” the king said with a smirk.

“What’s wrong with these king and queen? The queen considered me as a gift for his son like I am a thing, while the king thought that I would be a pet for his son like I’m an animal. They must be crazy,” I grumbled inwardly.

“Take this human girl to my son’s bedroom now!” The king ordered.

Nodding, the guards started dragging me out of the throne room.

“No! Let me go!” I yelled while trying to wrench myself free. But it was useless. They tightened their grip on me instead.
