Chapter 14
My eyes roamed the living room. On the floor, there were a suitcase that was full of my father’s clothes and cardboard boxes stuffed full of his books and other things. It’s apparent that my father had started making the preparations to move house. Yes, we’re going to move from Bloodrose Pack’s territory to our new house today.
Since we returned home from the pack house last night, my father and I had been hunting for a new house for us from the internet. Fortunately, we could find a house that was just to our liking at such short notice. Even my father managed to purchase that house for a song because the owner needed to sell it fast. Without wanting to waste time, my dad decided to move straight away.
Unlike my father, I hadn’t even packed my suitcase yet now. I didn’t know why I was feeling too lazy to do it. So I thought I was going to do it later today.
All of a sudden, my father emerged from his study, carrying another cardboard box.
“Dad, are you packing up already?” I asked, “It’s only 7 o’clock.”
My father had booked us on the 5 o’clock flight this afternoon. So it was actually not necessary for us to hurry like this, because there’s still a lot time to pack our suitcases.
“The sooner we pack up, the sooner we can set off, Sweetheart,” my father answered as he put the cardboard box down on the floor.
“But there’s still a lot of time to pack our stuffs before we go to the airport, Dad,” I said.
“We should pack our things as early as possible so that we can have plenty of time to get to the airport, Rosanne. We can’t chance coming late to the airport,” Dad reasoned.
“Oh, I see.” I nodded in understanding.
My father was the decision-maker in this house, and what he says, goes; I couldn’t argue with him.
“Have you packed your suitcase yet?” my father inquired me.
I shook my head. “No, I haven’t packed yet. But I’ll do it right away.”
“Shall I help you pack your things?” my father asked.
“No, thank you. I’m perfectly capable of doing it myself,” I declined his offer of help politely.
“Oh alright. Just let me know if you need any help, okay?” said my father.
“Okay.” My head nodded, and with that, I zoomed upstairs and rushed towards my bedroom. I yanked open the door and walked in.
Crouching down beside the bed, I pulled out my suitcase that was being kept under the bed before lifting it and putting it on the bed.
I then moved to my wardrobe and wrenched it open. Taking all of my clothes out of the wardrobe, I quickly stuffed them into my suitcase. But I’d got a problem. My suitcase turned out to be so full that I couldn’t zip the suitcase shut.
“Dad,” I called out.
My father came into my room in a trice. “Yes?”
“This suitcase is too small—have you got a big one?” I enquired.
“I’m afraid this is the biggest suitcase I possess, Sweetheart,” Dad replied.
“But I can’t shut my suitcase—it’s too full. I need a bigger suitcase to pack all of my belongings,” I complained.
“Just pack the bare essentials for now. I’ll have someone deliver the rest of your things later, okay?” Dad suggested.
“Fine,” I agreed with him.
“And don’t forget to leave some clothes here in case you need it when we visit Bloodrose Pack Land later!” he reminded me.
I nodded my head in understanding. “Yeah, I got it.”
“I am going to have a shower now. I’ll be back to check on you later, okay?” Dad told me.
I nodded. “Okay.”
Finally, my father strode out of my bedroom, shutting the door after him.
I took several clothes out of the suitcase before putting them back to the wardrobe, and lastly, I zipped my suitcase shut.
Fifteen minutes or so later, my father returned to my bedroom. Now, he was dressed in navy shirt with black jeans, and topped off with a leather jacket. Also, he had a pair of matching shoes on.
“Have you finished packing your suitcase yet?” Dad queried.
“Yes, I have,” I answered.
“All right. It means that we’re ready to go now,” said my father.
“What? Right now?” I said, incredulous.
Dad said, “Like I said, the sooner we—”
“Yeah, yeah, I know, Dad,” I cut him off, “the sooner we set off, the better, right?”
Dad’s face wrinkled in a grin. “That’s right.”
“OK then, I’ll get changed first, after that, we can get going,” I said.
“Okay. I’ll wait for you downstairs.” My father picked my suitcase up and dragged it out of my bedroom.
After my dad left, I pulled the door shut and hurriedly changed out of my current clothes into a clean pair of royal blue trousers and a light pink blouse. Afterwards, I went over to my dressing table and began preening myself in front of the mirror.
“Rosanne, are you nearly ready?” suddenly, I heard my father shouting from downstairs.
“Yes, I’m ready,” I yelled back.
“Hurry up! I’m waiting to go,” my father commanded.
“Okay, I’ll be right there.” I snatched up my jacket from the coat hook before I left my room and charged down the stairs to meet my father in the living room.
“I’m ready to go, Dad,” I announced.
“Put your jacket on and let’s go!” Dad pointed at the jacket that I brought.
Quickly, I slipped the jacket over my blouse. “Okay, let’s go!”
“You take our suitcases to the car. Meanwhile, I will carry the boxes,” my dad commanded.
“Yes,” I responded.
My father lifted three cardboard boxes at once like they weighted nothing and then carried those boxes towards the front door.
Sshlepping our suitcases, I followed behind my father, and finally, I tugged the front door open.
When we stepped out of our house, we were surprised to find a crowd had gathered outside our house. Amongst the crowd of people, I saw alpha Adolph, Luna Meredith, and Randolph. It seemed that all the Bloodrose Pack members wanted to give us a send-off.
The Alpha family moved forward and approached us.
“Ivan, are you sure you want to leave the Bloodrose Pack land now?” Alpha Adolph Wolfgang asked.
My father put the cardboard boxes down on the floor and answered in certitude, “Yes, I’m sure.”
Luna Meredith closed her hand over my father’s. “Please think things over before you decide to go, Ivan!”
My father relinquished the Luna’s hand slowly. “Before I make this decision, I’ve thought carefully about it, Luna. To tell you the truth, I feel bad about leaving this pack. But my only thought is to keep our pack members from harm. I grudgingly admit that the safety of our pack is being endangered by my daughter’s presence here. That’s why we have to leave as soon as possible. It’s for everyone’s sake,” Dad explained. Sadness tinged his voice.
I was overwhelmed by feelings of guilt. Because of me, my father was forced to leave his pack, his other family. But we didn’t have much choice. Because if we stayed here, the lives of Bloodrose Pack members would be put at risk.
Alpha Wolfgang heaved a long sigh. “Honestly, I don’t want you two to leave, Ivan, Rosanne, but like what you said, perhaps it’s for the best.”
“I know you want to leave for the sake of our pack. But you don’t need to leave yet, you know,” Randolph said.
“Yes,” Luna Meredith agreed with her son, “you needn’t have hurried. You can stay here a few days longer.”
“Save your breath, Luna, Randolph! You two will never be able to persuade us to stay here any longer. I’ve made up my mind. I want us to leave before the council members come back here and kick my daughter out of this pack,” Dad emphasized.
“Don’t worry about the council members! I and my husband will make sure that they won’t come back here and expel Rosangela from our pack in the near future. Besides, the council members can’t expect you to move your home and family at the drop of a hat. They’re not that cruel. They surely will give you some time to prepare everything first,” Luna Meredith tried to convince my father.
“Whatever you say, nothing will make me change my mind, Luna,” Dad said with emphasis.
“But if the two of you leave now, you won’t have anywhere to stay. So you’d better wait until you can find a place to stay before leaving. And in the meantime, we’ll think of a way out of this together. I’m sure we can find an alternative solution without the two of you having to move from this pack,” said Randolph.
“There’s where you wrong, Randolph. I had contacted several realtors last night. And luckily, I managed to get a nice house at a good price. So we’re ready to move now,” Dad elaborated.
“All right. Whatever you decide, I will appreciate it, Ivan. I just hope your new home will bring you and Rosangela happiness,” Alpha Wolfgang wished.
“Yes, I hope so. Thank you, Alpha.” My father gave Alpha Wolfgang a hug.
Hugging my father back, the Alpha patted him on the back before he detached himself from their embrace.
Luna Meredith embraced my father warmly. “I’m going to miss you, Ivan.”
Dad hugged her in return. “The feeling’s mutual, Luna.”
“Don’t forget to come and visit us some time, okay?” the Luna requested after they pulled away.
“Sure. I’ll try to visit you all every few weeks,” Dad promised.
Randolph put his arms around me. “Promise me that we’ll keep in touch, Rosanne!”
I hugged him back and whispered in his ear, “Yes, I promise.”
Randolph and I finally pulled away.
Next, the Alpha and Luna approached me and they embraced me and told me that they loved me.
After that, my father and I bade farewell to all the friends we had made in Bloodrose Pack. We embraced them one by one and promised to keep in touch.
Not long after that, a car drew up in front of our house. This was the car that would take us to the airport today.
The driver hopped out of the car and walked up to my father and me. “Are you ready to go, Beta Ivan?” he enquired.
“Yes. Let’s go!” said my father.
The driver opened the boot of the car. Then, everyone helped to load our luggage in the boot.
Once finished, my father opened the back door for me and asked me to get into the car.
But I didn’t do it. Instead, I talked to my father, “Dad, you don’t have to go with me if you want to. I can live alone. I’ll be fine.”
“What are you talking about, Rosanne? You’re far too young. How can I let you live on your own? I will go wherever you go. Do you hear me?” Dad rebuked me.
“But Dad, the Bloodrose Pack needs your presence here. You shouldn’t leave them behind,” I said sadly.
Dad touched my cheek. “I need you too, Rosanne. You’re my only daughter. We’ve been separated for almost seventeen years and I don’t want to part with you again. I’m willing to give up everything as long as I can be with you.”
My eyes were glistening with tears after I heard what my father said. I never thought that Dad so loved me that he was willing to do everything for me.
“Let’s go now, shall we?” Dad said.
I only answered him with a nod.
My father gestured for me to get on the car. Without protest, I quickly hopped into the car. Slamming the door shut, Dad then walked to the front of the car and wedged himself into the passenger seat. At last, our driver climbed into the driver’s seat and started the engine.
The Alpha, Luna, and Randolph gave us a wave as our car drove off. All the members of Bloodrose Pack also waved us off.
Dad and I wound down our windows and we waved back at them all.
Third person’s point of view:
Alpha Wolfgang, his wife and son, and all of the members of Bloodrose Pack watched Ivan and Rosangela’s car until it was out of sight before all of them drifted back to their houses.
Besides the Alpha’s family and Bloodrose Pack members, there was another person who secretly watched Rosangela and her father go with a sinking heart. That person was hiding behind the long line of trees, so no one noticed their presence.
All of a sudden, the person felt a hand touching their shoulder. That person turned around and saw a tall man standing before them.
“Don’t worry! We’ll catch up with Donovan and Rosangela. You will not lose them again,” the man convinced.
The person only gave the man a weak smile as a reply.
