Chapter 75
“Please take a seat, Lupita!” I patted the spot on the side of the bed where I was sitting on.
“Okay,” she whispered before taking a seat on the edge of the bed.
“So Lupita, why are you still up in this hour? It’s daylight, right? You must sleeping by now; it’s way past your bedtime.” I began our conversation.
“Tomorrow is a big day. That’s why most of us stay up late tonight because we’re very busy preparing for tomorrow,” Lupita explained enthusiastically.
I was tired of hearing people talking about my wedding. I wished I could do something to cancel the annoying wedding. But I knew there was nothing to stop the wedding. Except that I escaped from here before tomorrow.
However, before I could run away from here, I had to get out of my bedroom first. There were only two ways to exit this room: first, through the door, and second, through the window.
I wouldn’t try to jump out of the window again. It was too dangerous and it was also very stupid. So the only way to get out of here was through the door.
But I was not sure the guards will let me out easily. Even if I asked them nicely, they surely would not listen to me. Because they would only obey King Bellamy’s or Sigmund’s order.
'Then what do I do now?' I asked myself. 'Wait! Maybe I can ask for Lupita’s help. She's a very kind person. She'll possibly be willing to help me.'
“Lupita, can I ask a favor of you?” I inquired hopefully.
“Sure,” Lupita responded, “What can I do for you, Rosanne?”
“Look! I know Prince Maximilian is very nice guy, but I don’t want to marry him tomorrow. I am not ready for that, okay? That’s why I am asking you a favour to help me run away from here,” I said.
“I wish I could help you, Rosanne, but you know that I can’t. If King Bellamy finds out I help you escape, there’ll be hell to pay,” Lupita said.
'She’s right. King Bellamy will be furious if he finds out I escape with the help of Lupita, and he might punish her severely for that,' I thought.
On the one hand, I couldn’t let Lupita get punished because of me. But on the other hand, I really needed to get away from here because I didn’t want this wedding to happen.
After weighing up the pros and cons for a moment, I lastly decided to try persuading Lupita to help me escape. I knew it was a selfish decision to make. But sometimes, we had to think about ourselves before the others, right?
“Lupita, please help me! I really need to run away from here. And about my grandfather... you don’t have to worry about him. He will never know that you help me escape if you keep your mouth shut,” I prevailed upon her.
“But Rosanne, even though the king won’t find it out, I still can’t go against him,” she said.
'Oh why are these vampires very loyal to their king?' I grumbled in my mind, 'First, Sigmund, and now, Lupita. It seems that it’s almost impossible to make those vampires turn against the king. Yes, almost. Because I believe that it is not impossible to make those vampires betray their king if only I knew their weakest point.'
'And what is Lupita’s weakest spot?' I asked inwardly, 'Could it be our friendship? We have become close friends since the first time I came here. Maybe I can use it to gain Lupita’s sympathy.”
“Please Lupita! You have to help me! We are friends, right? Friends always help one another, I pleaded with my best puppy dog eyes.
“I’m so sorry, Rosanne. I really can’t help you,” she said regretfully.
“So you don’t consider me as your friend, Lupita?” I queried, annoyed.
“No, Rosanne, it’s not what I meant. You’re my friend. I—”
“Enough, Lupita!” I cut her off angrily, “If you don’t want to help me, you’d better leave me alone now!”
“But Rosanne—”
“I said, go!” I snarled, cutting her in, again.
I didn’t really expect her to go because I knew that Sigmund had ordered her not to leave me until he returned, and Lupita surely would obey him. But to my utter astonishment, Lupita got to her feet and walked out of my room.
'It’s weird! Sigmund gave her a strict order to never leave my side until he returns, right? But why did Lupita disobey him? Is it really because I told her to go?' I asked in my mind confusedly.
I shrugged it off and started to rack my brain, trying to find an idea to escape from here. But I came up with nothing.
'It seems that I don’t have a choice but to go through the door. I know maybe the guards won’t let me out. But it’s worth a try, right?' I thought.
I walked towards the bedroom door. I tried the door, but as expected, it was locked from the outside.
I knocked at the door. “Hello. Anybody outside?”
“Can I help you, Your Highness?” aked one of the guards from the other side of the door.
“Can you open this door? Please!” I requested.
“I’m sorry, Your Highness, we can’t,” he refused.
“Pretty please! Open the door! Please!” I begged.
“I’m sorry, My Lady, but we can’t open this door without Lord Sigmund’s permission,” said another guard.
“Sigmund is just my grandfather’s henchman. Meanwhile, I’m your princess. I order you to open the door right now!” I snapped at them.
Surprisingly, they wanted to open the door. Once I stepped out of my bedroom, two of the guards moved to block my path.
“Move! You’re in my way,” I barked out an order.
Without protest, they parted to let me pass. But my way was still barred by the other eight guards. Yes, there were ten guards stationed in front of my bedroom. It’s a bit exaggerating, right?
“All of you too, move!” I ordered.
All of those guards moved aside, and I quickly walked past them.
As I began striding down the hallway, I heard footsteps following me.
I stopped and spun around to face the guards, only to find them following closely behind me.
“Stay here! Don’t follow me! Do you understand?” I said firmly.
None of them responded.
I took a step backwards, and the guards didn’t move. I took two more paces backwards, the guards still didn’t budge. Taking advantage of it, I turned around and took off running. To my surprise, this time they didn’t follow me.
I ran into several guards in the hallways that I past. Pushing my luck, I ordered them not to follow me just like what I did to the guards stationed outside my bedroom. Surprisingly, they didn’t follow me either.
After that, I sprinted for the front door, run out of the palace, and headed for the gates. Once I was out of the palace gates, I made a dash for the woods.
'I didn’t think that it would be this easy,' I thought triumphantly.
However, when I just took several steps into the woods, I was forced to come to an abrupt halt when I bumped into someone’s chest.
I looked up. My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw that the man who stood in front of me was King Bellamy.
'Oh no, I’m done for,' I thought in horror.
