Rosangela: The Half-Blood Princess

Chapter 59

Sigmund’s point of view:

Once we set foot in the palace, King Bellamy ordered me to take Princess Mirabelle to his study.

The vampire king sat behind his mahogany desk, and the princess sat down across from him. Meanwhile, I stood behind the king, listening to their conversation in utter silence.

King Bellamy reprimanded his granddaughter because she had left the palace secretly and made everyone worried.

Princess Mirabelle apologized and told his majesty the same excuse just like she had said to me.

But King Bellamy wasn’t moved by her words. He rebuked her again and even threatened that he would punish her severely if she ever repeated the same mistake again.

The king’s threat succeeded to scare the princess. She promised that she wouldn’t do that again. But both I and King Bellamy knew that it was a lie. We guessed sooner or later, the princess would break her promise again. However, King Bellamy decided to give her a chance.

All of a sudden, Princess Mirabelle asked King Bellamy how her mother died. That question started the king. But he quickly pushed the feeling aside and inquired calmly why Mirabelle suddenly asked him about her mother’s death.

She said that she was just curious. But I knew she was lying. And I was sure that King Bellamy realized it too. But the king answered her question anyway. He told her that her mother was killed in an accident.

After hearing the king’s reply, Mirabelle suddenly went silent. She seemed to be lost in her thought now.

“Mirabelle, are you okay?” King Bellamy asked worriedly.

“Yes, I’m fine. I’m just thinking about my father,” she replied.

The vampire king furrowed his eyebrows. “Your father?”

She nodded and then inquired whether her father was killed in the same accident that had killed her mother.

The king answered, “Yes, they both were killed in that accident.”

“But Sigmund—”

Knowing what she was trying to say, I quickly interrupted her. I shook my head at her, warning her not to tell the king what I had seen at the café. I knew I eventually had to tell the king. But I didn’t want Princess Mirabelle who broke the news to the king.

Fortunately, Princess Mirabelle understood what I meant and she managed to make up an excuse. But then she began to argue with her grandfather.

I silently let out a sigh of relief when King Bellamy decided to end their conversation and suggested Princess Mirabelle to get some rest soon.

This time, the stubborn girl didn’t complain. Maybe because she was too tired after walking through the forest all day long.

King Bellamy called the guards and ordered them to escort Princess Mirabelle to her bedroom.

Before walking out of the study, Princess Mirabelle said, “Good night, Grandpa.”

“Good night,” the king responded.

After Princess Mirabelle and the guards left, I walked around the desk, so now I was face to face with the vampire king.

“Your majesty, I have something to tell you,” I said politely.

“Go ahead!” the king said.

“Your Majesty, I caught sight of Donovan in front of the café where I picked up Princess Mirabelle earlier tonight,” I told him.

He looked astounded at the news. “So he’s still alive?”

“Yes, your majesty. I’m sure it’s really him,” I replied.

His Majesty clenched his fists until his knuckles were white. I knew how much King Bellamy despised Donovan Grandville because he blamed Donovan for Princess Claribelle’s death. And now he must be upset to find out that his son-in-law was alive, meanwhile his daughter was gone.

“But there was something strange about him, Your Majesty,” I blurted.

“What is that?” the king asked.

“Donovan seems to not have changed. He looks exactly the same as he did 17 years ago,” I explained.

“There’s only one possibility why he’s still alive and hasn’t changed at all. Our mere human apparently has turned into one of our biggest enemies,” King Bellamy said through gritted teeth.

'Of course. He’s no longer a human. That explains everything,' I thought.

“But after missing without trace for 17 years, why does he return now, Your Majesty?” I queried curiously.

“There’s no doubt that he comes back for his daughter, Mirabelle,” the vampire king answered with anger flickered in his eyes.

“Does it mean that he has something to do with Princess Mirabelle’s kidnapping?”

“Yes, he must be working with the werewolves in planning her kidnapping.”

“But if Donovan and the werewolves planned to kidnap Princess Mirabelle, why did they release her again, Your Majesty?”

“I’m sure their main purpose of kidnapping Mirabelle is to brainwash her into believing that I’m the bad guy in order that Mirabelle wants to go with them willingly.”

“That explains why she’s been acting very strangely lately,” I muttered to myself.

“Then what shall we do now, Your Majesty?” I asked the vampire king.

“We must catch Donovan and the sooner the better,” the king emphasized.

“Alright, Your Majesty. I’ll send the best guards to hunt Donovan down,” I said.

“Remember, Sigmund! I want him alive,” the king warned, “I want to be the one who kill the man who has ruined my daughter’s life.”

I nodded my head. “Yes, Your Majesty. I understand.”

“And Sigmund, keep an eye on Mirabelle! Don’t let her out of your sight even for a second!” King Bellamy ordered. “Donovan has made my daughter left me, and now I won’t let him take my granddaughter away from me.”

“Alright, Your Majesty. I’ll do that,” I said.
