Chapter 35
Sigmund’s Point of View:
When I went out of the castle, Prince Maximilian’s car was already on the move. Without wasting time, I sprinted for the garage, got into my car and drove off at top speed to start after Princess Mirabelle and Prince Maximilian.
Until I reached the city, Prince Maximilian’s car was nowhere in sight. Only after I hit a very busy street, I glimpsed Prince Maximilian’s car among the press of other cars. At last, I quietly came after them.
Jasper turned their car on to a departement store and drove along until they found a parking space.
I turned my car into the car park of that departement store too.
Prince Maximilian, Jasper, and Princess Mirabelle hopped out of the car and started waltzing into the departement store.
After the three of them disappeared from view, I swung myself out of the car and followed them into the departement store.
Prince Maximilian and his bodyguard, Jasper, trailed around after Princess Mirabelle while she shopped for clothes. Meanwhile, I secretly followed and watched them from the distance.
They then went to an electronics shop. Princess Mirabelle asked Prince Maximilian to buy her a TV set and a mini fridge. And like a good fiance he was, Prince Maximilian always gave in to Princess Mirabelle’s demands.
A look of satisfaction was written all over Princess Mirabelle’s face as she walked out of the electronics shop with Prince Maximilian and Jasper in tow. I started after them again. So far, they didn’t seem to notice that I was following behind them.
Well, it looked like I got my prediction wrong. Because all of a sudden, Prince Maximilian came to a halt, forcing his fiance and bodyguard to stop too.
The vampire prince got tensed up. It seemed that he eventually found out that they had been followed. He then looked back over his shoulder. Before he could see me, I hid behind a wall.
Princess Mirabelle tugged at Prince Maximilian’s sleeve to get his attention. When he turned to look at her, the princess asked, “What’s wrong, Maximilian?”
“I think we’re being followed,” Prince Maximilian spoke in a hushed whisper. But I still could hear it thanks to my vampire hearing.
Princess Mirabelle gasped and her hand flew to her mouth. “Who is following us?”
“Your annoying bodyguard,” Prince Maximilian hissed.
His words ignited my anger. 'How dare that spoiled call me annoying?!'
“You mean Sigmund?” Princess Mirabelle wanted to make sure.
“Yep. Who else?” Prince Maximilian said with a sneer in his voice.
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier that Sigmund is following us?” Princess Mirabelle protested.
“If I’d realized it earlier, I would have told you. The only problem is I’ve just realized it now,” Prince Maximilian gave him an excuse.
“Actually, Your Highness,” Jasper scratched the nape of his neck, “On the way to the mall, I’ve noticed Sigmund’s car sitting on our tail.”
“You’ve known, and you didn’t tell me?” Prince Maximilian asked sharply.
“I’m sorry, Your Highness, but I think it isn’t very important, so I don’t want to make an issue of it,” Jasper reasoned.
Unexpectedly, Prince Maximilian grabbed Jasper by the lapels of his jacket. “You should have told me if you saw someone following us, Jasper. What if the one who is following us isn’t Sigmund? Rosanne’s life will be put at risk.”
“Because I know It’s Sigmund, that’s why I didn’t tell you, Your Highness,” Jasper defended for himself.
“You—”
“That’s enough, Maximilian!” Princess Mirabelle cut him off, “Instead of blaming Jasper, we’d better go and find Sigmund now!”
'Oh no, I must dash now.' I spun on my heel and was about to make a break for it. But I stopped dead in my tracks when I found Princess Mirabelle, Prince Maximilian, and Jasper already standing in front of me.
“Oh hello, Princess,” I greeted her awkwardly.
“What the hell do you think you are doing here, Sigmund?” Princess Mirabelle asked furiously with her hands on her hips.
“I come here to do my weekly shop. As chance would have it, you and Maximilian go shopping in this departement store too,” I made up an excuse.
“Just shopping? Stalking more like it,” Prince Maximilian snorted.
“What?! Me? Stalking you? No, I am not doing that,” I refuted.
“Don’t act dumb! I know you have been stalking me,” Princess Mirabelle spat.
I raised my hands in surrender. “OK, you win, I admit you’re right about me. But stalking is not the word for it—I am just guarding you, Princess.”
Princess Mirabelle stamped her foot in anger. “Grandpa said that he allowed me to go out without you, but why did he secretly send you to follow me around?”
“That’s where you’re wrong, Princess. No one sent me, I am here on my own account because I am concerned for the safety of my princess,” I deliberately lied to Princess Mirabelle because I didn’t want to drive a wedge between her and King Bellamy.
“Because you come here of your own accord, so, will you stop following me around now?” Princess Mirabelle demanded, “I don’t need you to protect me because I have already had Maximilian and Jasper here who can guarantee my safety.”
“No, I’m not going anywhere,” I refused firmly, “I’ll always stay by your side to protect you.”
Instead of giving me a retort, Princess Mirabelle turned to look at Prince Maximilian’s bodyguard. “Jasper?”
“Yes, Your Highness?” Jasper responded.
“Can I ask you a favour?” the princess enquired.
“Sure thing,” Jasper replied, “What can I do for you, Your Highness?”
“Can you please get rid of him?” Princess Mirabelle pointed her finger in my direction.
Jasper smirked unpleasantly. “With pleasure, My Lady.”
Before I could react, Jasper seized me by the arm and teleported me to the kingdom of Clanbella.
“Bye-bye, Sigmund.” Jasper waved at me teasingly and with that he vanished into thin air.
“JASPER!!!” I screamed with frustration.
